I watched this video about three years ago when the blower motor resistor completely stopped working. Now I just watched it again today because I had to replace the blower motor resistor again! Neither showed signs of melting, but I will have to make sure the cabin air intake isn't clogged.
Thank you so much for this video. Nothing else I have seen compares to the thoroughness of your explanation. And, yes, those screws are the worst part, both times!

Thanks my man. I had this very issue. I ordered the resistor and had a hell of a time getting the wires off. Wound up cutting the wires and putting new connectors on. Now my motors works like a charm. Thank you.

Thanks for the posting. After watching this, I took out the old resistor and headed out to get the new part. Because my truck has the auto climate control, I ended up having to get the part at the local Ford dealer. Installed it and everything is back to normal. Great video saved me some money and got it fixed quickly. Thanks!

Just changed the resistor. All 4 speeds work now, YAY. Thank you Jim for this video. Gotta say, though, the actual removal of those two screws - that was omitted from video - was hardest part of job. I unclipped a couple electrical connections (the one labeled 9 on my truck (looked like sharpie!) that is essentially at glovebox hinge.) Also, removed the mounted connection at top - little right hand bracket with electrical connection held in place w two white push-in tits. With those gently relocated to the right, gave more access. I also removed glove box altogether - 3 hex screws at bottom- and also removed bottom access panel on right. Moved mat and pulled it right out from rear (well, actually front or closest to engine). Could then come up from bottom. That's how I got the wrench - 5/16 - on the back hex screw. I didn't bother removing connection to resistor til after getting it out, btw. SO F-in tight in there. Just saw the note below - Eddy G - about the access panel to right of glovebox. That would have been handy because once your hand is in there, can't really see. I just did by feel mostly and gave up trying to see, especially on re-assembly. Thanks again Jim - got me edgumacated for successful fix.

Hey Jim, I have a 08 super duty also and yesterday noticed the air was on high but seemed like on low. The parked the truck for abt 30 mins and when we got back in to leave the ac/fan would not come on no matter where I turned the dial. Its not the climate controlled one. So I turned the truck on and off a few times while turning the fan on and off also. It started working again after it seemed to cool down. Im on my way to Advanced Auto now to buy the 24.00 resistor you spoke of. I hope this works and thanks for the video's you guys may not realize it but ya'll are lifesavers for us guys who aren't that mechanically inclined.... thanks again.

Just did this job. There is a vertical access panel on the end of the dashboard where it meets the door. You pull off the weather stripping then you remove the snap fit panel. This will give you visual contact with the resistor block assembly. When you fish your arm & hand in from the glove box area it is now much easier to do this job. Hope this helps someone.

Last night driving cross-country my super duty is usually flawless. I had to stop at a truck stop. I got down at 3 above. I don't know what the wind chill got down to you but I know later on in the morning it was 6 degrees with wind chill of minus 3. Of course this is when my blower motor decide to stop working. Since I turned it off at the gas station ⛽. 20 minutes later turned it back on and did not work at all. I could not believe that it would be in the blower motor. Lower motors just don't quit like that normally. Well I'll check the fuse and check this. Then maybe there maybe 🤔 something else.

I've recently purchased a used 1999 Ford f-250 super duty. My heater, A/C, and defroster don't work. I've gone through and replaced every blown fuse that I found and still doesn't turn the air flow on. I've been told that my blower motor may have gone out or over heated. This video explains in depth on how to replace it on a more modern super duty truck, my question is, with an older model super duty, is the procedure the same for replacing the blower motor? Also about how much does a part like this cost to replace if I do it myself? Thanks for the help. Any tips are good.

I have a 2008 F350 super duty, I replace the blower motor resister and still have no air blowing . Cool air oozes out of the vents, but no motor blowing air. The wires that plugs into the resister does not show that it's hot with electric. Could this be a loose wire as in the past I would wiggle the wires and it would come on, now nothing. Could it be the switch?

I just had to replace my blower motor in my ‘09 F350 for the second time. Original one worked for ~150k miles. Replaced it with an off-brand, which didn’t last 30k miles. Problem was it wouldn’t start, but if you banged on it, it would run until the next time you turned the truck off. Got an OEM this time. Hope it lasts as long as the first one! Resistor would be my next item to replace if I continue to have problems with the new one starting.

I have not done one of them yet but have you check power and ground to the blower motor first? The procedure for removing the resistor is a pain to say the least. Here is the procedure...Blower Motor Speed Control
      Removal and Installation

1.Remove the heater core and evaporator core housing. For additional information, refer to Heater Core And Evaporator Core Housing See: Housing Assembly HVAC\Service and Repair.
2.Disconnect the blower motor speed control electrical connector.
1.Release the blower motor speed control electrical connector retaining tab.
2.Disconnect the blower motor speed control electrical connector.
3.Detach the blower motor speed control from the heater core and evaporator core housing.
      1.Gently depress the retaining tab.
2.Slide the blower motor speed control towards the driver side of the vehicle to release it from the heater core and evaporator core housing.
4.Remove the blower motor speed control.
1.Position the blower motor speed control to align the retaining tabs on the control with the notches on the heater core and evaporator core housing.
2.Remove the blower motor speed control.
5.To install, reverse the removal procedure.

thanks jim, I've already located and removed the resister, but there are no physical signs that it is bad. just looked a little dusty so I cleaned it up and reinstalled it, still no air flow. I've ordered a new one, just to be sure but if that's still not going to fix the problem, would you suggest doing the same (remove, clean and reinstall) to the actual blower motor? I live in an area where it freezes every night and I have been having to scrape my windshield every morning to remove the ice so I can see. and I'm still driving to work every morning with a long sleeve shirt, 2 sweaters, and my carhart.

My 2013 5.0 XLT has 7 speed settings on the knob. Last week it started shutting off and on. Put in a new $166 resistor from Autozone, no fix and returned it. Relays are good, pulled blower motor which was a pain to get the far firewall screw, and seems to be good too. I left it plugged in laying on the floorboard, pulled resistor, left it plugged in and it would blow perfect only after unplugging it for 5-10mins at a time. Found that the speed setting knob at #5 works constantly but thats the only one. I ordered a new blower motor, resistor and resistor connector pigtail from Amazon. Hoping it is one of the 3. If not, something behind the dash maybe?

Are you having issues with the clutch fan always being engaged? Just replaced my fan clutch now the fan is always on and very frequently turns on and off while driving.
