The context is where it happens (was it a work environment?), if it happens due to a work contract, and so on. It's the same reason why someone injured in a store can usually get the store to send them to the hospital on their bill. Worse still, there are people who literally don't understand this and will refuse medical service from a company because they are under the impression that their insurance needs to cover the bill.

I do but I hide it because my first impression to most people is creepy but in a funny way so I keep it that way in fear that if I change it my friends will think I'm too weird and won't want me to be their friend anymore even though my laugh is very similar to my cry and I only found that out when I hurt my lip really bad in school (but it didn't look like it hurt to my friends)and I started crying but my friends thought I was laughing so they started laughing and I thought they were laughing at me so I cried even more then they saw my tears and one of them said "I thought you were laughing" then they rushed me to first aid. This only happened in a couple of minutes even though the explanation is long.
I enjoyed this video for what it is, but the title is completely misleading. The video doesn't address the question of what if you're born without empathy at all. Why would you give it this title?

Tmp Wmp I have not been diagnosed(yet) but I have been battling against and researching it for 3 years now and it hasn't gotten much better. I admit I misunderstood what depression is though. But I am 100% certain I have social anxiety disorder. Most people suffering from it don't seek help because they're afraid of people's judgments(ironically that's what social anxiety is) and because of our stupid society's stigma against mental disorders(one dude just called me weak but clearly doesn't understand what anxiety is), which is bullshit and needs to change.
I am very worried and afraid about telling my parents and family about it even though I know it is hurting me and I am in desperate need of need help.
What about things like Alzhiemer's and Dementia and looking to not only treat it! But ways to prevent it if possible!

Thank you for bringing up the difference between sociopathy and psychopathy. Many people do loosely throw around those terms, and try to speak on it in a more blanket way. My uncle was born a psychopath, and not all psychopaths are the criminal type. I'm no expert, but from my understanding, a psychopath is born with their condition, but can still make choices in their life. A narcissist or sociopath might not be born with their condition, it just seems to develop due to differing factors (or the individual being more prone to certain types of evil).
I'm clinically diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder (Being a sociopath), me lacking empathy doesn't mean I am a bad person. I do understand and help you, if you was in pain. It just doesn't bother me

If that is the way children learn empathy then it is possible that that is why I feel a certain lack of empathy at times, it is there, and sometimes it is much easier to feel empathy than other times, but i do notice an overall lack of it. When I was younger both of my parents did not show much empathy toward me. My dad didn't because it was always difficult to pin down his emotions because he is generally someone who keeps his emotions in check, being slow to anger or frustration. Although I am sure he FELT empathy, he didn't SHOW empathy often. As for my mom, I am unsure if she did truly feel empathy often, and if she did I think that frustration overcame her ability to show it often. I would cry about things that truly are no big deal, but to a small child were the end of the world, she would get frustrated at me and her own inability to do anything about it, so I was not shown empathy often from her either.
I imagine empathy can be learned after childhood and I believe I am still learning it. I am not a sociopath in any way, but certainly am not the most empathetic person ever.

As a preacher that has seen the very worst of humanity and felt my heart getting broken by some of the things people tell me they have done....I wish I was cold and heartless. I wish the things I've heard would stop haunting me when I lay down. I wish this feeling of not wanting to be here anymore would leave me. The things I've heard have dropped me to my knees many nights. I wish I could turn off my emotions. I honestly would trade my heart if it would take away my empathy and my feelings. Humans are by their nature acceptable of great evils as long as no one finds out what they did. Extremely rare that someone wishes to speak to me of some evil they did on their own. They only talk once they got caught. Then when I go to the jail to speak with them they want help. Then I help bear their burden so they walk away feeling better that they confessed and can work on improving their life meanwhile they just took another piece of my humanity away and have left me wanting to find anyway to make the pain stop. Anyway to make the images out of my head. Anyway to just stop feeling anything at all. Demons are real I have seen them in the actions of others and I have fought with them for too long to not believe that humans are not evil. They just have a great capacity for evil actions. A lack of empathy would be a mercy so don't for one second believe that it's always bad. Some people would trade anything for that gift......

Thanks for distinguishing the difference between sympathy and empathy. I used to be empathetic towards others/ my friends. But then I was betrayed and they didn't really care about me. Sometimes I feel I'm way too empathetic. This is showcased whenever I watch movies. I find myself putting myself in the shoes of the characters on screen way too easily... especially if they're in a tragic or even just a sad position. I cry all the time during movies... and it can be kind of embarrassing. Just watching a fictional character cry on screen sometimes makes me shed a couple tears.
I wasn't very empathetic when I was young, but I've kind of learnt to understand what others are thinking now. I still need to work on it though 😂
Ehm...actually... While it is a popular "fact" that there is such a thing as a difference between psychopathy and sociopathy, the DSM5 and every card carrying psychiatrist will disagree on this.
Psychopathy is a depricated term that was for a while replaced with sociopathy to prevent the confusion with the unrelated term psychosis.
But in the DSM5 sociopathy on it's turn was replaced by the more accurate (and way longer) term 'anti-social personality disorder'.
I’m trying to get rid of one of my “friends” who I used to be close with because she has zero sympathy or empathy for ANYONE. I watched this video and other videos covering sociopathy, empathy, and sympathy because she is so unempathetic to other people, even to me!
Sometimes she says some rude or mean stuff without thinking, and some of her actions can come off as rude, but she never thinks about what people will feel.

Well I do feel sorry for others but I don't know how to help them like lets say a little kid tripped and is now crying I have no idea what to do! I think that empathy is also partly a selfish survival instinct. You are projecting yourself into the circumstances of another person to understand the risk in setting yourself under the same threats. At the same time, it's a communication tool, since openly acknowledging another's circumstances makes them more willing to share information with you. People don't want to feel like guinea pigs, especially when they're suffering. This can make them unwilling to share what they know. i think you can lose your empathy, or it becomes so selective that you find it's died in the process of attribution, when and to whom you apply it too. or its hard to relate because you do nt think you would feel the same in the given scenario or experience.

Empathy fascinates me. I have asperger's syndrome which I've been told is why I don't feel as much empathy towards others, while from my perspective it seems more like I do feel it but don't care about the other person especially if it isn't life threatening.
