- "Thankyou, old boy!"
(RIP Lemmy)
Dave Brock, Alan Davey and Richard Chadwick joined by Lemmy and (thanks to the 1000000th commenter) Phil Caivano of Monster Magnet performing Silver Machine. Footage from the Take Me To Your Leader limited edition DVD, at best guess performance dates from around 2005.
Doesn’t get any better than that, Lemmys voice when he just sings “I” sounds like he’s boiling gravel in his throat
He was a mere kitten when he was booted out of Hawkwind, but he returned as a Lion
- Boiling gravel…
😂
Man that is so much crazier than the recorded version 50 years ago. Great to see the 'old boy' playing with Hawkwind one more time. Absolute legend!
I saw Hawkwind do this when it first came out in 1972 I think. It was in concert at some small coastal town in Norfolk England. This was before they became really famous. Lemmy came out in to the audience and sat on the floor practically next to me (no seating in the place it was that classy) while the support band was on. He was using two large marbles rolling them round in his fingers the whole time. I guess to exercise his playing hand before going onstage. It was quite a night, I remember them playing Silver Machine of course. A Brilliant memory.
possibly the West Runton Pavilion 🤔
Those are not marbles.
@@chris12oman Lol .. he mustn’t have noticed the hairs 😂
Dammit. 😂
Man I'm envious.
Two bass guitars. You don't get to see that every day of the week, unless you watch this video every day of the week, that is.
M8, funniest comment on yt.
Shit this has been my past week and a half so far
all day long.
Alan Davey was a fine successor to Lemmy
Or you watch a lot of Neds Atomic Dustbin :)
Lemmy was the man, and that Rickenbacker signature 4004LK he plays is the best looking bass I've ever seen. I miss knowing that he's out there. RIP.
This was filmed at the Ruisrock Festival, Finland, 10th July 2004.
The guitarist is Phil Caivano from Monster Magnet.
As Lemmy once said "This is real rock and roll...it isn't f*uckin' Kiss!"
I Quite agree
It's all Johnny B Goode they just play it on 12 through a Marshall
Lemmy recorded a KISS song for one of their tribute albums
Never heard that till now, Lemmy all ways hits the nail with his head, what a cool comment , cheers :)
@@thebourbonscene845 ...and that's still a direct quote. Look up the live concert set he did (AXIS?) from Germany.
I Was There, the whole concert being one of the highlights of my life.
Snap!
What year was this please guys 2011???
2004
You lucky sod!
so was I....
good set all the way through....
Lemmy and Dave Brock , absoloute magic!
Love how he did this song...this is NOT..the voice or sound he had with Hawkwind..This is motorhead
Somewhere in the middle
When Lemmy left the center of the stage, the center of the stage followed him. He couldn't stop being the focus of a Rock'n'Roll show if he tried to.
Just to point out, this is Ruisrock Festival 2004. Ruissalo, Turku, Finland July 10 2004.
+Swedish Rock 'N' Röller Thanks! I wondered myself if it can be 70ies :-)
I was there. Fantastic stuff.
Thank you, I was wondering just that !
Saw Lemmy with Hawkwind in the Brooklyn Academy Theater in the '70's GREAT SHOW!! Did shots with him in the '80's at a NJ gig. He gave me autograph that said " Bruce Who!!??" Lemmy -- still have it in my collection. Live on you bad mo' fo'!
Lemmy had the class to leave the past behind for a while and play with the groupe that left him stranded in Canada....'nuf said.
so glad they fired him...so motorhead could be born...much like dave mustaine....fired...and went on to do his own thing...and motorhead was all lemmy...idc what anybody says...all respect to phil taylor mickey dee...fast eddie etc....but motorhead was lemmys baby..god bless you lemmy....thank you so much for the music...the memories...your memory will live on forever!!..lemmy fan 4life
th-cam.com/video/hF9Gr5waAJg/w-d-xo.html
Lemmys idea that would of never lifted of the ground without fast Eddie and philthy to create the powerhouse trio it was all of the early line up that made motorhead remember that
@maddog76 One might say Lemmy was Dave Mustaine before Dave Mustaine was Dave Mustaine, no? Just kidding LEMMY IS FUCKING GOD!!!! Dave can be his son! But not really as much as I love Megadeth, Dave is nowhere near the man's man Lemmy was.
Lemmy: "I am rock 'n' roll, & rock 'n' roll is me"
i agree but also loved Orgasmatron as wurzel played guitar then and Another Perfect Day as brian robertson played guitar on, but then theres Fast Eddie as well, loved all there lineups
Lemmy is the reason I hung on until 30 and my kids are the reason I've hung on since. Good on ya mate! When I next see ya, the rounds are on me!
This is when Hawkwind were at their best. A proper Rock band. Lemmy still owes me a couple of pints. I guess I may have to wait a while to collect on them. He did say he would have stayed with Hawkwind if they hadn't kicked him out. Motorhead were great too.
I see Lemmy sing Johnny be good with inner city unit. Best version of that song I've ever experienced. I doubt if it's on record but wish it was. Great times.
Lemme wouldn't allow you to pay. The drinks would be on him.
For old skool speed freaks everywhere....nice one!
R.I.P Lemmy. Great Man. A real WW2 History Collector. He knew his stuff.
Chris Farlowe, the great, unique, bluesy voice of Colloseum, Atomic Rooster and many others made a more steady living from collecting and selling WWII memorabilia (especially the Nazi's stuff, whom he hated) than he ever did from his wonderful vocals (and this was the guy who famously ate a pastrami on rye sandwich while singing on the video for Atomic Rooster's "Black Snake"!)
King of bass, thankyou Lemmy what a great journey you took us all on.
A great loss. The days of Filthy Animal and Fast Eddie Clark. Hope it's not too much of insult to say RIP LEMMY from a fellow bass player. Thanks for the music.
+G.H.T. It's never an insult to pay your respects. Good on you!
Dave Brock and Lemmy Kilmister are definitely masters of the universe along with Calvert
And Nik Turner too (the man who introduced Robert Calvert to the band in the early 70's)
@@Spirit-Of-The-Age yeah happy Nik.. always a bag of fun lol
Sad to see Lemmy go - we saw Hawkweed play their 'Space Ritual' show at Kings Cross circa 1971/2, totally hypnotic performance that none of us will ever forget. RIP Lemmy
+Dave Rhumour wow that would have been beyond awesome!!! I love HW!
Dave Rhumour -♠FUCKING AWSOME!♠Hold on to those memories my friend. Thank you for sharing. I'm A crazy ♠Motörhead♠ fan from over here in the U.S.A. I didn't get turned on to HawkWEED, untill 1980 when My friends and I started listning to ♠Motörhead♠ & did our home work like a true young music fan, and heard Lem's old band before ♠Motörhead♠ and checked it out. Totally differnt vibe and style than ♠Motörhead♠, but Awsome just the same! Cheers mate! ♠Joey Vomit♠
Saw them do The Space Ritual show in Calgary same tour. Mesmerizing to say the least and some upstart band named The Eagles opened with Hawkwind for Fleetwood Mac, pre Buckingham/Nicks. Good times.
I reckon Lemmy has come on stage at the end of the gig as a guest - the other bassist probably played the rest of the set.
@@brentscott5359 The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac you say. I wonder whatever happened to them ;). But in all seriousness, what a billing that was!
Lemmy my idol and my all time favourite band HW.
Dave Brock, Lemmy and Alan Davey.. I'm in heaven.
🤟😎
two bass legends Alan Davey &..........LEMMY!🤘🤘🤘🤘🖑🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Lemmy fired from Hawkwind.
Best thing to ever happen to us!
Saw Hawkwind at St Georges Hall in Bradford in 77 with the great Bob Calvert on vocals god i miss that man,the support that night was Motorhead, that was to this day the best gig ive seen anywhere and ive seen loads of bands and hundreds of gigs but that nightwas literally out of this world,Hawkwind played Uncle Sams on Mars jesus that was the best ive ever heard that song played Calvert was out of this world that night,❤
RIP, We will never forget Lemmy
Lemmy, just a class act. Raising a glass to you.
Brockwind at full power with Lemmy!
Good night Lemmy Kiilminster's soul, see you in another life, I'm sure...
Guys, this is actually tuned UP half a note! That means that the young Lemmy back then didn't sing this song as high up as this older version of Lemmy. That's quite impressive given that the older the vocalists get the further down they tune their songs to save their voice/due to vocal restraints etc. Lemmy!
Exactly, that is what I think was the reason Brock changed the tune back in 75, he could not go as deep as Lemmy.
Lemmy and Dave Brock superb combo, one of the best in fact!!!
Lemny mot an ls .. d fan ...pure amp x
Tantalise me?
@@gregwalters391 Lemmy did enough acid for an entire city, just got bored of it
@@adg4861 Enough speed for an entire country....
@@robhillyer6381 Lemmy didn't do speed.
Speed did Lemmy!
Dave Brock has always had his own plan for Hawkwind. It isn't necessarily a linear one - then again, Dave IS a hippie, bless him. Hawkwind could have been a "big"British band, but very obviously Dave wasn't seeking that. But for old Hawkwind fans, the Brock/Lemmy/King/Turner (or Calvert/Dettmar/Stacia) band will always BE " Hawkwind. That said, it was over 40 years ago, so all praise to Dave for at least keeping the spirit alive.
REST IN NOISE LEMMY
That's a good one :))
There’s only one person owning that stage and it isn’t any regular members of Hawkwind
I never saw a band or gig featuring Lemmy where he didn't own the stage.
It's quite logical as he's the guest star for one song on this show and was the original singer of the song.
In the early 70 Lemmy was a regular with Hawkwind, until he was fired anyway.
Lemmy steps onstage with Hawkwind,or any band for that matter, and they instantly become HIS band. Truly a giant amongst insects.
Even without the echo on Lemmeys mic i would class this as the heaviest & best Silver Machine iv seen & heard live. :)
This version is heavier
th-cam.com/video/giwZaeggdhQ/w-d-xo.html
This song was the one that opend my ears for hard rock/heavy metal. I was around six years old and lissned to my brothers 45" in the early 70-ties.
RIP Lemmy, you will live on with us for ever!
R I P LEMMY... THANKS FOR ALL ROCK N ROLL HAPPENINGS WHITH HAWKWIND AND MOTORHEAD BIG ROCK HUGS FROM M FUNCK 53 years young rocker from Sweden

r.i.p.old boy see u on the other side look after my wife but hands off r.i.p.candice
RIP Lemmy ...lucky enough to have seen you do this. Sad sad day.
Thank you Old Boy. #riplemmy
Love Lemmy, love Hawkwind.
I'm so happy this happened. And that it was recorded and uploaded!
I was a die hard Hawkwind fan in the 70's and I think also that Monster Magent comes close especially with the early records.
Lemmy's voice was shot by the time Motorhead put their first album out. It took me awhile to get used to the gravel, but I like it now.
This is from Ruisrock, Finland. I was there. There's a guy from Monster Magnet too
And that would make it 2004. I was in the audience.
Can't remember if Monster Magnet was on the bill that day, Motorhead was on the other stage right after this. This stage seems a bit grand to be the Ruisrock side stage which I recall was a bit more stripped down of lights and other luxuries, you might want to revise or affirm this assumption?
What an incredible experience!!
Monster Magnet was at next day but this was the actual side stage. I was high though ;)
what a genuine dude....long live lemmy!!!
Rest in peace, Lemmy. Forever a legend.
I could not imagine that I cry when I listen to SILVER MACHINE.
Better believe it !
Just pure brilliance! I had this song on a cassette album by Hawkwind (or Hawklords???) years ago when I was a kid
Ah yes....that voice. The great one sounds like he must have gargled every morning with a tasty mixture of napalm and battery acid...…. unmistakable. RIP
That opening "I!" sounds so cool!
Good discribtion
Lemmy you are legend... and will live for ever in our hearts. R.I.P
Ahhh Only if they could have done one more tour together with the old boys and just have fun !!!
+Ozkurl Probably not the best day for your poor humor ?
This has warmed my heart a wee bit! 7 days till the anniversary of Lemmy's passing and
I still feel sick to the gut whenever I think of Lemmy and knowing he's not on this planet with us anymore! BUT...! We have a ton of gems like this video to keep us Rock N Roller's fed!
He taught me a lot did Lemmy, and it's "The Gospel According To Lemmy" for me all the fucking way!
LONG LIVE LEMMY!
He even mentioned that he would have gladly stay in the band to this day
fkn brilliant to see lemmy and dave rippin it up
@Yanick Gendron You do realize Lemmy first picked up a bass guitar while auditioning for Hawkwind right? He's an unique musician, he plays rythmic guitar un a bass guitar.
Lemmy also plays guitar on Lost Johnny.
Nice! I gotta check it out.
NO SHIT SHERLOCK
Correct in lemmys pre hawkwind days he plays rhythm guitar
When you realise what Hawkwind gave to music. Their influence on the evolution of popular music, be it rock, punk, dance, techno, not many bands claim to have such a reach. It is genius stuff.
All Lemmy touches turns to rock ! RIP my friend !
rip lemmy you wil be missed
EPIC! Lemmy rules! All that was needed was the legendary Nik Turner 🙌 🪐
RIP Lemmy - we miss You!!!
Saw Hawkwind at Reading rock 1986 and guess who came on for Silver Machine❤
Clearly Lemmy knows how to play the flux capacitor.
Brilliant, just brilliant!!!
Lemmy makes everything rock!
R.I.P. Lemmy
he lives forever in his Music stay rockin all the time hellyeah
Would have loved to see this - My band were going to support Hawkwind in 1990-they pulled out. Must have heard our tracks!
He sings the same way he did later on in Motorhead.
Saw Hawkwind w/Lemmy, & w/Stasha & . . . @ least 3 times in Cleveland, Ohio.
Havnt seen 2 Rickenbackers on stage before. Silver Machine got HawkWind on the BBCs TopOfThePops and got me into their space rock such as HallOfTheMountainGrill shortly after. Lemmy (RIP) a rock and roll culture icon. A gritty independant (role model ?) that didnt give or take any BS.
Dave and Lemmy, always amazing!!
Funny... Never thought of Lemmy as a vocalist before... and tbqh... I still don't! But I LOVE Hawkwind.... and I even love this song... in spite of Lemmy's vocals! (Lemme... please don't give up your day job! You know you're one of the world's great bassists, don'tcha?!!)
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING LEMMY!!!!YOU'RE GOING TO HIM VERY MUCH!!!!!!RIP MY FRIEND!!!!
Brill, watching with tear in eye, will miss those annual trips to see Motorhead. Dave Brock keep going fella we love you.
Effin amazing! Lemmy was so powerful! The illegitimate father I never had...
You'd have probably seen me in the crowd at many Hawkwind gigs in the mid-80's
I was the guy with the long hair and the beard, that must ring a bell :-)))
I was never into any of the politics or hippy stuff, I'm a biker and I just like good rock music and getting wasted.
I think I did most of the dates on the 'Chronicle Of The Black Sword' tour for free, I'd turn up on my bike and beg for a place on the guest list while they were setting up. Happy days, long gone ;-)
no, don't expect Lemmy to be like Chris Squire on bass ----- Lemmy STRUMS the bass!!
R.I.P.
+Raelspark Agree , they all have their place in music !
Of course he does...remember he was a guitarist, and more or less by accident got on the bass, to invent the coolest way ever to play a bass. RIP!
When Allan Davey had to take a back-seat to the Lord of Bass...
"Thankyou Old Boys". 🫠
Whoa! Lemmy, Captain Brock and Alan Davey, all on one stage?
To my knowledge, its the first and last time Ive seen a band performing with 2 basses
R.I.P. Lemmy, a legend, miss you.
RIP LEMMY
THE BEST thing that ever happened in R&R next to CBerry, Little Richard, Elvis, Beatles, RAMONES, & Sex Pistols is Lemmy getting canned by Hawkwind! Another Old Metalhead thanks you Lemmy for going solo. Your influence helped make my life enjoyable. YOU affected virtually every band I have supported over the years.
THANK YOU, Sir...
Iam 54 and this is a first for me, seeing Lemmy performing with Hawkwind as I know that he detested them and felt much more at home with the likes of MC5, The Damned, Vice Squad etc
Celtic Warrior Lemmy definitely did not hate Hawkwind. He said in his autobiography that he would have stayed with them forever if they hadn’t sacked him. Fate took over however and Motörhead were born. Praise be 🙏🤘
Btw.: This is 2004. Not 1974 ;-)
eerh....1973 ??
Turku (Ruisrock) 2004, and blimey what a surprise this was. My mate thought I'd Photoshoped the whole thing! I was stood about 3 foot to the left of the camera.
2 haggard old long haired Englishmen playing Rickenbacker basses, beat that!
good to see brock Rip HUW . lemmy is six foot under as we know... god bless stacia awesome woman... hmmm brock is still alive god bless the legends
2 brilliant bass guitarists Alan Davey and Lemmy
Amazing band , amazing song.
good to see Lemmy on stage with Dave Brock again,
Love this song rock on
Holy f**k!! The guitar work in this, is nothing less than bloody outstanding! I only wish that the sound and image were of a higher quality, but that aside- this is bloody incredible!
Sorry for the advert: if you like vintage Hawkwind, you may like this:
