I’ve been reading car magazines playing car video games watching car shows and I’m all about these awesome cars. How have I never heard about this car? F40, 959 and F1 I’ve known forever and thought it’s been a three way battle but now there’s a fourth as if this car just walked into a room and said hello for the first time

Imo this is the most beautiful Jaguar ever made and I find it a bit amusing that not many people even know about it. I am SO happy Henry got to drive one and especially glad to see it was driven in the rain, because that's when some cars show their true nature, and watching an XJR-15 race around a track in pouring wet conditions is way more exciting than a dry track. Thank you Carfection for this magnificent piece of film! I wish you guys would do a Diablo SE30 or an F50 next.

You mentioned it was based upon a Le Man winning car, with Johnny Dumfries being one of the drivers. Sadly he died just over a year ago (March 2021). If you ever get the chance to visit the Isle of Bute then it's a must that you have to see his home, Mount Stuart. During the summer they do guided tours. Many years ago they held the Mount Stuart Classic, a mini Goodwood I'd imagine? That was a terrific event, but being based on an island it was always going to struggle to get the visitors it needed to continue. But seeing F1 cars driving on a single track road, through a forest, in the wet, was awesome.

I remember years ago seeing these up for sale at under £150k: even back then, I thought they were chronically undervalued. Granted, that was still a huge amount of money back then, but that was in an era when F40's were up for £1m, so relatively speaking, it was an absolute bargain. I thought they looked utterly divine then...... and that hasn't changed one bit since. Only wish I could have afforded one back then......... but a secondhand 16V Calibra was the best I could afford at the time - and I thought THAT was the dog's bo11ox back then!! 🤣

Always loved the XJ-15, it's been something I've loved for as long as I can remember probably because it's a little less well known as the obvious cars. The 90s were a very interesting time for TWR, you can definitely see the R390's proportions in this which TWR later went on to design and the obvious one for me to suggest as wanting to see next.
Sadly only one road car was ever produced which now sits in Nissan's heritage museum in Zama (which I've had the pleasure to actually poke my head inside). Not sure whether any of the handful of race cars are still in operable condition, but it's definitely a car I'd love to see again.

I was a twenty year old avid car magazine reader in 1991 and remember soaking up all the info on this car at the time. What I remember is that it was universally panned for the handling. Rear lights from a Mazda 626 and door handles from a Renault 5, I don't understand where the value of these cars comes from. It was a compromised vehicle at launch and yes, it's interesting, but not at the asking price. You could buy a GMA T33 instead.

I didn't realise the XJR-15 was created by Jaguar Sport, and the XJ220 by Jaguar, as I've always wondered why Jaguar has shown the world the XJR-15 first (which I think from an exterior design is gorgeous and timeless), then only to release the XJ220 (with an exterior design that's a little clumsy & over-designed, w/long overhangs) as its consumer car to compete with the F40, F1 etc. Back then, and still to this day, I've always preferred the exterior design of the XJR-15 over the XJ220. The XJR-15 is definitely a timeless design. Even after 30 years it still looks contemporary.

great video, a under hatches walk round would have been nice. perhaps for the next drive, something wildly different like a full dakar truck :)

What a car! I love your reviews, Henry, but you had me a bit worried when you talked about it being difficult to get into. Then I remembered that you're 7" taller than me and breathed a sigh of relief. I'm 73 years old and not as flexible as I used to be, but I reckon I could still get in if I really wanted to. The loud noise shouldn't be a problem because I've become a bit deaf. My wife has been deaf from birth, so no problem there. We probably wouldn't want to go for long drives, but I think it would be perfect for getting the newspapers and a coffee on Saturday mornings and really, really annoying the neighbours 😁🤣😉

Awyiss. My favourite car in the world (and also the sexiest and objectively speaking, the best). And now I have my favourite automotive journalist creating some modern media for it :) Happy days. I knew this weekend was going to be awesome

I remember reading as the drama unfolded through this car’s development and production run via magazine articles when I was kid. I’d thanks this over all the analog super cars to include Mclaren and 959.

I am glad to see you were enjoying yourself. I just couldn't help but think while watching this, how many curse words must have been spoken realizing the weather was going to be crap.......again........for another big test drive. You've got some luck there Henry. LOL.

What a fantastic review as only Henry could do it. The others pale in comparison to his lucid descriptions.
Henry, I'd love the see you drive some of the older cars, firstly because you seem to have a true love and genuine respect for them and secondly because there is a more direct connection. Your driving skills can get the car flying without the gratuitous (and inappropriate) Harris tire smoke.

Barring access to a GMA T50, then perhaps the team could track down a running road going version of the Porche 917. I believe there were just a handful of them converted, but it would be great to get our intrepid Mr Catchpole behind the wheel. He deserves a treat after the quite hair raising drive of the XJR15.

Tiff needel raced it in monaco, if I recall, and he said it was terrible....understeer and oversteer, sometimes in the same corner!
I think there were quite a few crashes involving these, unsurprisingly......
