    VW Group used to make a lot of crazy engines: V8, V10 and V12 TDI, VR6, V5, they also used to make a “normal” Audi S6 with a N.A. V10 and they fitted the VW Passat with a W8...

    This is one of Audi's best creations for sure. This Q7 still looks amazing today, and a freaking V12 diesel engine with 500 HP and 1000 Nm of torque was nothing to joke about back in those days. I remember those good ol' days when Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, they were putting all sorts of crazy engines in their cars. The 5.0L V10 in the E60 M5, the 5.0L Lamborghini V10 in the Audi RS 6 C6, the V10 in the VW Touareg, the 4.0L V8 in the E90 M3, I mean insane things you thought were never possible.

      Audi had some crazy creations, the lamborghini v10 did find its way modified into the s6 and s8, but it wasn't enough for the rs6, the rs6 gets the v10 with two turbos

      @@Corsa15DT im saying that this is a pretty unreliable engine. Its not hard to make an engine producing lots of power. Its hard making an engine that produces a lot of power and reliable. Its not an excuse to be lazy, saying that its a supercar so its ok if it break regularly. VW probably makes money servicing these and other failures.

      @@kadarmate buy an opel corsa dude or golf if you want cheap quality and reliable ride. Also this is one of the rarest engines in the world, probably only couple thousands made, how'd you know if they are that unreliable? I have no info about the reliability of this supercar, but if the cams are from the Leman car, this is pretty solid base, I'd expect 300k km without any problems

      @@NikA-wr6px Well that doesn't have to mean someone stole it... It takes at least 2h to take the engine out, and you need to have the car unlocked and all that stuff... So most likely someone is making a project car, or bought a project car without an engine... My friend has bought couple cars without the engines. Opel Calibra, Audi S4 B5 and a BMW E36.

    My father works as an sales engineer for the company, which owns the company providing the clutch and other parts for the gearbox to ZF. When the Q7 V12 launched back on the day, he told me that during development, Audi had to figure out a solution for limiting the torque in lower gears cause the prototype cars engine was unlimited and turned the rims inside the tires while launching, due to the high torque.
    This car was insane in every way

      it's a 18 wheel 40 ton truck engine on a 3 ton suv....it's expected....
      the engine can actually make more than double the stock torque, but as you say, transmission can't handle it and i guess also internals are not made for the amount.

      I know with the V10 TDI you need to stop the motor to do any maintenance.
      So pretty sure this would be the same

      On the other hand :
      1) Were you the beast's mechanic , you'd be either rich or save a lot on maintenance.
      2) This is a 60° V12 , possibly the smoothest internal combustion engine configuration , very very little vibrations to break parts. Unlike the 5.0 V10 TDI.

    Manufacturers : 900 nm is the limit of the gearboxes , we can't go higher sorry.
    Audi V12 TDI and Bentley Mulsanne : hold my torque.

      @@joe125ful Audi Q7 is a modern car. But the 2000's were the decade of diesel engines, this is why they were built such wonderful engines, like 3.0 TDI, 4.2 TDI, 5.0 V10 TDI, and this one.

      Yes when there used to be no Strict EU regulation No OPF, so soft limiter no turbochargers no downsizing. Cars were fun back in those days. Today we're living in the era of Hybrid bullshit

    My palms started to sweat after 250km/h. I was really expecting to see a speed governor kick in.
    This thing was massive in performance and size, and I agree, it is a one of a kind in automotive history. Beautiful!

      In forza horizon 4 there is the touareg R5 v10 tdi with stage 4+ you can get 930hp and 1300 torque vmax 330/340

      SQ7 before facelift had a V8 TDI in Germany. With the facelift, they switched to V8 TFSI as well.

    Herrlich, letztes Wochenende mit einem Freund noch genau über dieses Fahrzeug gesprochen, das es ein tolles Fahrzeug ist mit dem Alleinstellungsmerkmal V12 TDI..Nur die serienmäßige Keramik Anlage schreckt ab.

      @@zsoltih2540 we had a lot of them here in the netherlands as well but government has decided they are to polluting. So taxes on them are getting high to the point where they ain't worth it anymore sad forced my grandpa to but a 2019 golf instead of his 2002 tdi good for vag I reckon😂

    This was from the best time of car industry when each and every top manufacturer wanted to show the world the extreme of technology and design other than saving the earth and bettering their financials. Except for those hyper cars, we got street cars only seen in the wildest dream before: a V10 5 series, a V10 A6, a W12 diesel Q7, and even a W12 Tourage

    this is the first time in my life that i see V12 TDI engine in this car i know for V6 3 litre or 2 inline 4 but for V12 never hear for it amazing and you surprised me good :D

      @@sbgaming9330 Yes but in 2021 its still cost 25-50.000Euros with around 150.000Km.
      What about car durability/fuel economy etc.
      For day driving that engine dont make any sense if you not want offroading and you probablly not want.
      I rather buy Hummer H1(i know its not best offroad car ever) but as weekend car its purfect for example.

    My mate had one of these monster. Incredible power. But drank diesel like a fish, and the service interval was frequent. Hellishly expensive car to run.

    the german car industry were on their peek 10 years ago
    about 20 years ago they released the 1.9tdi and since then they just kept getting better and better until 10 years ago
    so sad to see everything move to electric now :((

    Back in the day when this car was brand new my dad had one these it was just awesome words can’t describe how beautiful this car was. But my dad had an accident with it an it was completely totalled so my dad bought an x6 that was also awesome but of course it wasn’t a v12 tdi. I really miss the q7

    Nice review. We don't have those in the US. But what Audi vehicles have...is a button on the underside of the wiper stalk, that turns off that annoying door open beep (@6:09) but Max never uses it to make it stop and just shuts the door.
