VW Group used to make a lot of crazy engines: V8, V10 and V12 TDI, VR6, V5, they also used to make a “normal” Audi S6 with a N.A. V10 and they fitted the VW Passat with a W8...
This is one of Audi's best creations for sure. This Q7 still looks amazing today, and a freaking V12 diesel engine with 500 HP and 1000 Nm of torque was nothing to joke about back in those days. I remember those good ol' days when Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, they were putting all sorts of crazy engines in their cars. The 5.0L V10 in the E60 M5, the 5.0L Lamborghini V10 in the Audi RS 6 C6, the V10 in the VW Touareg, the 4.0L V8 in the E90 M3, I mean insane things you thought were never possible.
Audi had some crazy creations, the lamborghini v10 did find its way modified into the s6 and s8, but it wasn't enough for the rs6, the rs6 gets the v10 with two turbos

Its not an excuse to be lazy, saying that its a supercar so its ok if it break regularly. VW probably makes money servicing these and other failures.

Also this is one of the rarest engines in the world, probably only couple thousands made, how'd you know if they are that unreliable? I have no info about the reliability of this supercar, but if the cams are from the Leman car, this is pretty solid base, I'd expect 300k km without any problems
@@Corsa15DT i never said cheap quality lol, you are missing the point. This is not a supercar dude, this is a fast suv. Only a couple of them are still running, and you can buy them for fairly cheap, cuz they turn your wallet upside down.
And expensive as well because they are rare. Also, I can guarantee that whoever owns this car right now, one day thieves will steal the engine, worst case the whole car.

So most likely someone is making a project car, or bought a project car without an engine... My friend has bought couple cars without the engines. Opel Calibra, Audi S4 B5 and a BMW E36.

My father works as an sales engineer for the company, which owns the company providing the clutch and other parts for the gearbox to ZF. When the Q7 V12 launched back on the day, he told me that during development, Audi had to figure out a solution for limiting the torque in lower gears cause the prototype cars engine was unlimited and turned the rims inside the tires while launching, due to the high torque. This car was insane in every way
it's a 18 wheel 40 ton truck engine on a 3 ton suv....it's expected.... the engine can actually make more than double the stock torque, but as you say, transmission can't handle it and i guess also internals are not made for the amount.
On the other hand : 1) Were you the beast's mechanic , you'd be either rich or save a lot on maintenance. 2) This is a 60° V12 , possibly the smoothest internal combustion engine configuration , very very little vibrations to break parts. Unlike the 5.0 V10 TDI.
And its good thing its not in modern cars.....that engine dont make any sense at all. You can get same HP/Torque with modern 5.0L V8 Twinturbo Diesel for example.

Yes when there used to be no Strict EU regulation No OPF, so soft limiter no turbochargers no downsizing. Cars were fun back in those days. Today we're living in the era of Hybrid bullshit

This was from the best time of car industry when each and every top manufacturer wanted to show the world the extreme of technology and design other than saving the earth and bettering their financials. Except for those hyper cars, we got street cars only seen in the wildest dream before: a V10 5 series, a V10 A6, a W12 diesel Q7, and even a W12 Tourage
this is the first time in my life that i see V12 TDI engine in this car i know for V6 3 litre or 2 inline 4 but for V12 never hear for it amazing and you surprised me good :D

What about car durability/fuel economy etc. For day driving that engine dont make any sense if you not want offroading and you probablly not want. Manufacturers : 900 nm is the limit of the gearboxes , we can't go higher sorry.
Audi V12 TDI and Bentley Mulsanne : hold my torque.
To be fair, they did have to use a different gearbox specifically for this engine only.

The recent SQ7 or this Diesel ? I'm picking this just because how unique and cool that engine is, it won the Le Mans after all.
SQ7 before facelift had a V8 TDI in Germany. With the facelift, they switched to V8 TFSI as well.

Nice review. We don't have those in the US. But what Audi vehicles have...is a button on the underside of the wiper stalk, that turns off that annoying door open beep (@6:09) but Max never uses it to make it stop and just shuts the door.
