Been there, received that blessing. My stepdaughter, after four years of resisting my love, one day bought me a key ring that said "#1 Dad" and asked if she could call me Daddy. Then she had her last name changed to mine for her high school graduation. It blessed my heart and still does. That one little key ring and those precious words made years of anger and rejection worthwhile. Stepdads, never give up. The more they say "you're not my dad," the more they are begging for someone to stand firm and love them no matter what.
