The FPS is noticable only if you have played the GameCube version before. I did finish Tales of Symphonia like 4-5 time on GC, so this FPS change was drastic when I played the PS3 version for the first time, BUT after 5-10 minutes of playing it, I honestly forgot the framerate change and didn't care anymore about this issue(The game is so good XD). Still hope the skits was dubbed in english, but hey, at least it got localized. ^^
THANK YOU! This is the only review I've seen that mentions the fixed camera which is what I was most curious about as somebody who has only played the Gamecube version.
ZenHorakti name them. Abyss suffered severely from back tracking and go here, now go back, now go here, we cant go here better go to this other place first, now go back, then go back again. The entire fucking game. Is that. And the story sucked. You could see all plot coming a mile away.
I have been going back and forth about whether or not to pick this up. That was an interesting note about the frame rate different in battle. Is there any bonus material to Dawn of the New World, or is it pretty much just graphical update with using the controller over the Wiimote? Regardless I will probably still pick this up when I get the chance, because of my love for Symphonia. But it was nice to get some insight into it before putting money down on it. ;)
Great vid as always Darren, I was wondering how this version would compare. That frame drop is a bit scary, but where I have little to no experience with the Gamecube version, i'm hoping I don't notice it!
Just picked up Dawn of the New World a couple days ago at a Thrift Store in the city. Really excited to give it a try. Great video as always Darren - thoroughly enjoyable!
I'm in the minority it seems but I prefer Dawn of the new world over the first TOS in just about every way. I prefer the characters, story, over world map system, I like the skits being voiced, The only thing I'm not to sure on is the graphics as I think TOS takes that. Maybe this would be different if I had played TOS back in the day but this is my first experience of them in this release.
2 things I don’t like about Chronicles. 1: The Dragon in the Earth Temple use to give you 10000 Glad now only gives you 1000. 2: Kratos MUST be in your Top 3 highest affection in Flanoir in order to get his ending and is no longer an automatic 4th option.
@@THBbon Well, you picked the game 4 years ago and stoped half way through, im can say for sure that you didnt engaged with the game. Its been 4 years since you got the game, im pretty sure you dont remember much nowadays, you probably should start all over, or just give up on it..
I bought this, but have not played it yet. I played half way through ToS1, but got stuck on a tough boss. Great game, though! Can't wait to play it again.
I might have my standards a bit high since the first symphonia is my favorite game of all time, but they could've done better. Just looking at final fantasy x/x-2 HD or windwaker HD makes this seem lazy in comparison.
Aside from the whole frame rate issue I think its safe to say they did a pretty good job on the port of Symphonia. Dawn of the New World though not so much.... I can agree that they should taken both ports further like those others you mentioned.
TheGamingPilgrimage TBH I think it's because Dawn of the New World was pretty much perfect and on par with Graces F, so they didn't really have to do anything to the port apart from the control scheme.
Emil's voice wasn't really terrible, the voice actor has used the voice in other anime and video games before and it was fine, just the problem is Emil's personality coupled with the voice. another problem was the sound director, he did a shitty job handling Emil.
Johnny Young Bosch does great voicework he did great as Guy Cecil in Tales of the Abyss! It's unfortunate when he voiced Emil the personality didn't match is was odd hearing him as Emil!
There is one thing I hate about the Tales of series. And that is that if you want to play all the games you have to buy sooo many consoles. I have the wii and the xbox but if I wanted the most tales games I might have been better of with the PS3
Hey TheGamingPilgrimage, how did you get so many subscribers so fast? I have another TH-cam channel that will have reviews, countdowns, and more but O can never get a ton of views. You've only uploaded around 20 videos yet you broke 300 subscribers already. How do you do it? I really want people to see my work but it's just not happening. If you could give me advice then I'd be really grateful
Honestly I think it really comes down to luck and persistence. But, I do network with other channels and they spread the word on my channel and I do the same for their's. I've also been on a couple of podcast episodes through those channels as well which I think has been a great help. Hopefully this answers your question, its hard being a small channel on TH-cam, don't give up!
I'm going for TOS HD over Dawn of the New World. I just disappointed abou tDawn of the New World that being flat chest for a character voiced by Laura Bailey(English)/Rie Kugimiya(Japanese). Dawn of the New World is one the titles that disappointed about female characters voiced by Laura Bailey/Rie Kugimiya!
30fps, my old foe, we meet again. I shouldn't have thought it below you to ambush me in a so called 'hd' re-release. haven't started playing this game yet. hopefully my pc master race blood isn't so pure i can't handle the 30fps.
This may be seem like a dumb question if you are an otaku or whatever, but what is the appeal of Japanese voices? I don't speak the language and tend to miss the action if I'm reading subtitles, and I've never found any English dub to be bad. I love Jrpgs but I don't understand the appeal of listening to characters speak in a foreign language that I don't understand.
I really don't have any problem if it's in English audio or Japanese audio. Though I must applaud Bandai Namco for including the Japanese Audio. The thing about it is that the Japanese Audio has fully-voiced skits which the English dub lacked. It felt dull and boring reading all those texts if you are not a bookworm. But you do have a point, some otakus/weeaboos too often overhate the English dub which I do not quite understand.
30 FPS = No buy. This is totally unacteptable for a HD collection for a next gen system. Why would my HD version for PS3 be less superier then the gamcube version 10 years ago? I was looking forward to this game and planned to buy it after I completed ToX. But when I finally learned about the 30 FPS only issue I refused. I'm not paying for a inferior version of a game when I fully know there is a better version out there. Truly a disapointment, a lazy port indeed. Seems like I'm getting this for dolphin emulator when I get a high end PC.
yeah so basically i had this game on Dolphin emulator and it ran perfectly fine. super smooth. i was debating whether or not i should get the ps3 version. since it was only 30$ i was like why not. got it and the battle system made me really really upset. 30fps kills the smoothness. also the controls feel sluggish/less responsive compared to playing it with a 360/X1 controller on dolphin. so in conclusion, playing it on the emulator definitely feels better. however, you CAN get used to the 30fps after a while. initially i wanted to go and sell the game asap. but i decided to keep playing and when i got past the start of the game it felt ok. really wish it had 60fps patch but whatever. it has more content on ps3, but doesn't feel as good. the gamecube on dolphin doesn't have extra content but feels better to play....
there is a reason for the game to be 30, but it's a dumb one, the PS2 version of Symphonia also only ran at 30, and since this is based off the PS2 version..... still no excuse for them to not just bump the framerate in devolpment.
@@EasilyBoredGamer VERY LATE ANSWER but the reason why the PS2 version was 30fps (and this one) was because from a technical perspective the original GC version wasn't real 60fps, they used a trick on the Gamecube CPU or GPU(or something like that) to simulate 60fps, this can't be replicated on a different hardware because the the FPS is linked to the game engine and if you force 60fps the game just goes nuts al over the place, that's why they decided to keep the 30fps cap in the game

I played both version close together and I never noticed any difference with the frame rate.
1. Tales of Symphoina
2. Tales of the abyss ( came really close )
3. Tales of vesepria
( I seriously love abyss)
Erick Gonzalez I think its Better. Abyss way better then Symphonia in many ways
ZenHorakti name them.

That's such a lazy way to play tales games
