    I never thought I would be so thrilled about a smart meter explanation. Having moved into this property none could tell me how to read the meter. Not only did I save the video but I was also able to watch it through my Firestick.
    You are a superstar. Thanks so much

    I have watched at least a couple other smart meter videos and your video is by far the best and most educational by far! I just went through the numbers as you did and now I can totally read the meter and also able to tell how much I should be getting charged! Thank you so much!!

      Thanks for your comments and supportive words. And glad it is helpful. Do not trust suppliers. Even if they say they can remote read it once a day - still take your own readings just to make sure they don't rip you off.

      I was with Utility Warehouse been with them 4 years so a 2020 smart meter.
      I'm with British Gas and having problems.
      They say cheaper. Its bad because I can't see how much gas I have used since going with them .
      I don't have a flashing light on my gas meter / also blank.
      How do I find out my usage , they don't appear to put me on a lower tariff.
      Thank you.

    How do I top up? The tenant left nothing and left the property and left a massive debt on the gas meter. Minus £4 on electric and that's low. I have no idea how to top up? Do I just goto the newsagent with a paypoint and get a electric top up and gas top up like a mobile top up? Do you then press the blue button and go into vend mode, enter the top up code and then press red? Sorry to sound like a mess 😔 please advise!! Utilita customer service won't help!!! I don't have any prepayment keys or cards. Can I just goto the shop and get an electric and gas top up as normal...please help!!! I'm doing work in the property and the electric is about to run out..

      @@xacteducation8036Hello, maybe you could help me?) Since you always explain things well to people))))
      This is my first time renting an apartment and I need to register with my electricity supplier. I chose Electric Ireland. But I have a problem when registering in the place where I need to write down the current meter data. I don’t understand exactly what numbers I need to enter when registering for the electricity sector. The owner simply sent me 7 digits for “day” - 0026761 and 7 digits for “night” - 0015862.
      But, on the website when registering in the column “meter readings day” and “meter readings night” you can write only 5 digits. I don’t understand which ones exactly ((((
      Please tell me, should I indicate “00158” or “15862” for the day?

    If reading is not active as it does not gave plus singn then readings from button 6 are inactive. That means what? Supplier cannot use this readings to bill you? So do you have to use button 9 instead? My supplier is giving me contradictory information every time I call. Supplier is confused themselves. 3 months now I had no correct bill by them. They also keep sending me wrong incorrect estimated bill. It's nothing what readings from each month says on meter. 🤢

    Thx dude. I have one of these meters in my newly rented apartment. The property agent told me nothing, but said it is a prepayment meter. So confusing here. It is a gas meter or electricity meter? (I have both prepaid cards in hand)
    Just wonder how do I know how many credit do I have in meter? And when do I need to top up the prepaid card? Thx again.

    • @xacteducation8036
      @xacteducation8036  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My video is just electricity. If you have PAYG but it hasn’t shown on your IHD(or you don't have one), you can add the credit via your Smart meter keypad - press A(VEND mode) then key in your 20 digit Transaction Reference Number (TRN); when you’re finished, press the red ‘B’ key. The meter will either then accept or reject the code.

    • @dwnthk
      @dwnthk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xacteducation8036 Thx dude. Do you mean the credit will not added to me automatically after I paid at Post Offices? I need to enter TRN myself?
      Before I top up the prepaid card, I can press B to check the credit available in the meter, right?
      And this meter is for electricity ONLY? I can't find any other meter in the flat.
      Sorry for all these silly questions.

      You'll need your smart Pay As You Go card (or just your smart Pay As You Go card number) with you.
      You'll be given a receipt when you top-up.

      Hi Button9 will give cumulative reading. Button 6 will give your the night day split if your have more than one tariff. I would advise taking readings from button6 to see if you have more than one tariff active Look for R01 R02 R03 ... and see if there is a plus sign as in R01+ then you know that tariff is active. Take readings daily just now until you suss out what is active. DO not trust any supplier. Some are just bill companies with poor admin.
      You must take regular readings even if they say it can be remote read across the DCC network. Let me know if you need any more advice.

See if you can access Emergency credit using button 7 If you need to use emergency credit, press ‘7’ on your smart meter keypad. If it’s available, the screen will display ‘EC OFFER’. You’ll then be asked to accept or ignore the offer of emergency credit. Press ‘A’ to accept then press ‘B’ to confirm. Wait 20 seconds until you see the default screen and then press ‘7’ on your keypad. Your smart meter will display ‘IN USE’.

    What do you mean 9 is the addition to R01 and R02? supplier is confused by own meter, they cannot tell me what is my bill after being given monthly readings from button 9. They asked for readings from 9. They said 6 was wrong.Now they say readings from 9 are incorrect. Supplier is confused themselves and cannot produce a correct bill. Which one to press to get correct kWH for electricity then, 6 or 9?

      Hi there Use button6 rather than 9 to get individual time of use tariff readings. It should come up with Tariff first then R01, R02 ... These are the import register readings as in what your property uses per kWh Ignore any decimal points. Just give whole numbers. button 9 is cumulative. If you add R01+R02 then button9 gives the sum.

      Press 6 the display should say TARIFF then ACT RATE then IMP R01(means Import Register) then look for +R01+ on the display and take a digit reading. You dont need the digits after the decimal point. The + symbol next to R01 or R02 on the display tells you that the rate is currently active. If for example you have a different day & night rate from your supplier you need to record both the R01 & R)2 readings. Even if the supplier can remote read your meter do not trust them! Take you own manual readings say once per month. If the red WAN light is flashing that indicates the supplier is capable of remote reading your meter via the DCC mobile SMS network. Similar to mobile phone network but only accessible by electricity suppliers.

      I'm assuming you only have 1 meter now with your economy 7? You would have had 2 'old' meters. Most Smart Meters have an auxillary relay which can control Economy 7 - at the appropriate time when the tarrif rate swtiches the relay kicks in the other circuit and vice versa when done. So assuming you just have that single meter it wil just get sent a new tarrif with a singe rate when you lose the economy 7 kit. If you don't telll them, the relay will kick in but won't do anything as nothing will be drawing the power off. For things like this you are often better ringing the actual supplier of your electricity i.e if you live in Scotland - Scottish Power, rather than your bill supplier. If your supply needs fixing to properly terminate the old Eon 7 circuit it would be the actual supplier rather than bill supplier who would do that.

      Thank you for your comment. I understand everything you say. Most if not all suppliers are less than helpful. Some are down right useless. Only interested in money and not supporting customers. Do NOT trust them. It is important to take your own readings even if you have a Smart meter. Some Smart meters are still not able to be read by the supplier remotely - some are. Its done by a private mobile network using SMS Ask SP if they can remote read your meter? Two meals a day is what I do. Unless you do heavy manual work 3 meals a days is not necessary. However good nutrition is important. Switching heating off and being cold is not nice. I would recommend having heating on but not above 21C temperature during the day. Switch heating off at night. No need for a bedroom to be above 14C for comfortable sleeping using good duvets. Press button 6 and note down the R01 & R02 readings - do this weekly and you can see how many units you are using. Our 4 bed house has 3 people living in it and we use approx 9 units a day. About 63 units per week which with 40p per unit as of today will work out at about £25 per week We have Oil heating and Electric cooking. 2 people in a house should be no more than 6 to 7 units a day. Depends on life style. Happy to help in any way I can. Tips to save costs: Cook large meals and fridge or freeze what you dont eat that day. Use flasks for coffee. Limit showers & baths to say 3 a week. Quick daily wash normally suffices. Change all light bulbs to LED Let me know if you wish any advice - use email xacttutoring@gmail.com Best wishes

    I did hear at one point that all the smart metres fitted so far will not be compatible with 5G and will have to be changed, have you any details on that?

    • @xacteducation8036

      Good Q DCC operate the mobile network for smart meters. Separate from phones. The SMETS1 type dont seem to be readable by DCC/suppliers at present - mine isn't - Given 5G is different frequency signal I would say it is very likely both Smets1 & 2 type meters are not 5G compatible. I will investigate if current meters are 3G 4G or 5G technology

      www.smartme.co.uk/technical.html seems 2G&3G operated by O2 where I am in East England - so likely both SMETS1&2 meters are only 2G&3G compatible DCC cannot be contacted directly by the public which seems odd I am going to ask these Qs to my current supplier

      @xacteducation8036  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Had it confirmed my SMETS1 is 2G frequency. So presume would also be 3G compatible without physical upgrading. DCC are in progress of updating all SMETS1 to be able to be readable - but no info or dates as to when Only soon Probably this year

      Suppliers are useless. DO NOT trust them. Some smart meters have not yet been upgraded to be a ble to give readings remotely, Thats why they ask for readings 0 as in the meter is not Smart, Especially the oroginal SMETS1 type in my videos. Yes button 9 gives cumulative if you have more than one tariff - such as day & night. Better to USE button 6 and read the R01(usually Day tariff) and R02(usually Night tariff) values. ACT RATE on the screen will tell you the tariff which is active when you read it.

    How can i find the numer of the meter?

    • @xacteducation8036
      @xacteducation8036  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      MPAN stands for Metering Point Administration Number, and it's the unique identity reference number for your electricity meter which provides certain information as shown in the example below.
      An MPAN number search isn't quite as complicated as it might sound, as the number itself is quite easy to spot on your meter or bill, as it's contained inside a series of seven small boxes with a capital S at the front.
      The simplest way to find your MPAN number is to check the top left or bottom right of your last electricity bill, bearing in mind it might be in small print and may not stand out as much as you'd expect.

      @xacteducation8036  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Press 9 for total and 6 for all the time of use tariff Import registers R01 R02 ...
      If an Import register tariff is active it will have a + sign such as +R01+ If you have night/day tariffs then R01 & R02 If just single(day) rate it will be R01 Log your manual readings regularly - Do not trust your supplier If SMETS1 type meter and hasnt been upgraded yet it is likely your supplier cannot auto read
