    Excellent step by step video. I feel comfortable enough to do this on my own truck now. Thanks!!

    Never thought of caging the brakes .. no wonder I was busting them little nuts to release the pistons !!! Thank you sir for this great video

    Please align the holes in the rims so you can put air in the inner tire. 🙂

    Have a Question, I recently had a brake chamber blow out on the tractor and was wondering if it is possible to back the brakes off using the cam adjustment with shear adapter due to the inside of the chamber spring broke and couldn't get the cage bolt in !! the trailer was 90 % in the lane of traffic. The mechanic could not get the cage bolt in either.

      Unfortunately no, the shear adapter will break before anything happens with the brake chamber. The only option there would be to remove the chamber mounting bolts completely to get the wheel free again.

    Well done.. Another option when re-adjusting the brakes post installation of the pads.. tighten the adjuster = back off three clicks.. or.. back off 4 clicks and hang a box wrench on the adjuster. Note the position.. then make service brake applications.. Two things happen here.. one.. the box wrench moved so you confirm the adjuster itself is working .. and two.. the adjuster has set nominlal operating clearance.. Just a different approach.. Well done again with this tutorial.

    A friend of mine breaks those shear adjusters on the steer axle.
    I'm assuming theres no caging necessary on the steers.
    What's he doing wrong?

    • @Dartmech

      Yeah no caging with the fronts. The internals may be seized or he’s just going too far.

    Why do we need to cage the bridge ? is that action make it easy to retract the piston back into the caliber by turning shear adapter counter clockwise ?

    • @Dartmech
      @Dartmech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question! The shear adapter is turning the adjuster in the caliper that will only move if the brakes are released. If they are applied the shear adapter will break. You could do this by just pushing in your park brake valve, but caging them is the safest way.

    Releasing the parking brake, BUILDS air pressure? How is that.

    • @brucealexander9024
      @brucealexander9024 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. The parking brake in an air brake system is activated by a powerful spring rather than air. This allows the parking/emergency brake to function when there is a failure in the air system (like a big leak or line break). Under normal operating conditions, air is applied to force the parking brake spring back, releasing that part of the brake system.

    What is the tool used to measure the space when adjusting? What's the thickness of the tool you used as well?

    • @Dartmech
      @Dartmech  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Feeler gauges. Should be like .025-.042” between each piston I believe.

    Huummm I just open the ignition switch then push the brake hold it for about 10 sec. And kalibrate by itself easy peace 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

      I break them too once in a while. I got a Lisle 29120 socket as a back up. Just be gentle with it so you don't damage the adjustment mechanism.
