Looks good. Very nice dad you have! That 4000 has about 55 hp.... but little over 52 on the power takeoff. The engine hp is almost never the same as whats available at the pto. Plenty of hp for that cutter. To get the best cut, find a level place to park, raise the front of the mower a couple inchrd off the ground, then adjust the top link until the mower sits level. Before you start the mower, lift it slightly so the blades are clear of the ground. You will find your mowing experience to be much easier, and more safe, if you remove that loader (or even just the bucket) before you go out to mow trails.
North Dakota Ham it’s a lot easier on the front end components without that loader. I’d be taking it off for haying also since he doesn’t do round bales.
@@2020jd that loader looks very solid but also very heavy. A light tractor like the 4000, especially the ag version such as he has, can get very tippy, unstable if the bucket isnt kept low while moving through uneven ground such as shown in the video. I lost a cousin who flipped almost that same type of Ford tractor while traversing a shallow ditch with material in the bucket. No ROPS in those days. I have two Ford loader tractors of the same vintage. Am very careful using the loader on uneven ground.
North Dakota Ham Yup. I’ve got a Massey 150 with a loader that comes off all summer for bush hogging. I keep it on in the winter time mainly for bringing firewood up to the house. Much more maneuverable without it
@@2020jd ok on the Massey. Is that gas? Factory loader? Not a quick attach I suspect. My Ford loader isnt quick attach. Several hours of work getting it off the tractor and more than several hours putting it back on again. I use my loader year around so pretty much have to keep it on the tractor. I have a second Ford I am working on so will have a backup. Mowing with an Allis D19 gas with aftermarket 3 point. Does pretty well but doesnt shift nice like the Fords.
Make sure there's a clip on the PTO shaft coming out of the gear box. If it's a shear bolt brush hog there should be a clip in front of the end of the PTO shaft. See my recent video on it. Looks like a nice brush hog. Make sure you grease it and take care of it. Also check gear box oil every use.
I have a Ford 4000 gas as well with a 7ft on it y should lift the Front of the mower the Heights of cut is set by the back wheel and I found the best thing too is run with your bucket very low to the ground they way u can fund big Rocks and stumps by it sliding up on them not with the mower
That's a great thing to have, that's an awesome gift and looks like very little use. As others have said grease the wheel. Also if it doesn't take grease we'll check it close. I bought a new rhino brush hog that the wheel wouldn't really spin around and it turned out the grease fitting was acting like a set screw. A small washer was an easy fix. I'm sure you are but be safe, they throw rocks and stuff pretty far. Hate to see anyone hurt. Happy mowing. Almost forgot, and you probably know also. Don't forget to check your gear box on the mower.
I encourage you to ID useful trees like Black Locust, Butternut, etc, and avoid mowing some of them down. Black Locust is superb at resisting rot, and is also very tough - great for fence posts, raised beds, and any wood that needs to last years in the weather.
Easy way of having the mower ready for easy hookup is to skip the pallets. When disconnecting it, set it down so the front skid shoes are each sitting on a standard brick and the tail wheel is on the ground. You’ll find when you hook it up, it’s basically all set up height wise with barely any other adjustments needing to be made to have it levelled for cutting. The front should generally be a bit lower than the back for optimum performance.
Nice score ! Just grease the two U-Joints, the slide on the driveshaft, the back wheel and make sure there's oil in the center gear box. Also try to adjust it so it doesn't run in the dirt as much, good way to bend or snap a blade. Awesome video !!!
The top link needs to have play to allow the bush hog to move up and down. You should probably back into the thickets rather than drive your tractor into them.
for a smoother start up on the brush hog start it up at a lower rpm it wont jump as much and if that has not been ran to much you mite need to slip your slip clutch and reset it and yes your back wheel needed to be greased up oh almost forgot by making sure your slip clutch is working right it should help with your tractor dyeing down when you hit some rough stuff hope that helps you
RCR = Rotary Cutter R?....1872 = 18 series, 72" wide.....probably the most used implement on any small farm...the tire on the back; I have and have had several land pride rotary cutters and they all do that. Grease helps, but it seems like eventually they all kinda seize up and then plow up the ground on turns and such.
This will be a great enhancement to the farm!! The only thing that has slowed down my father in laws was some old fence he got wrapped around the blades. I helped him get it free and no harm was done. They are tough!
Nice vid bud. A lot of good tips on here. One thing to remember with a bush hog is safety, safety, safety. It might be one of, if not the most, dangerous piece of equipment on the farm. Always be respectful of it by knowing the dangers and make sure NO children are around it running. Other than that, nice equipment and nice video bud.
Hi great work but I'm not an expert but you might to grease that back wheel and lift it a bit higher so you do not have the slasher dragging on the uneven surfaces. Awesome piece of equipment and tractor. I always watch your videos love to see you and the family are all doing something together.
awesome score! nice piece of machinery. always love your videos. your tractor might have been sitting on a bad angle but if you didn't notice your back right tire looked low.
Loosen top link and adjust height with 3-point. I worked for an equipment dealer at one time. Some guys would run a chain for top link, that way it will sort of float over rough ground . I just had to rebuild the whole front end of mine yesterday. It is a Brush Hog brand from the early 70's. Good luck with it and be safe (not like me).
Slow your RPM's down while you in gauge the pto and it won't jump or jerk the tractor and could cause damage to the equipment, there should be a shield for the front of the mower to protect you and the tractor
looks like a match made in tractor land . when cutting saplings be careful not to drive over large stabs will be fixing tractor tires. blades are called flails i believe have fun
Check the gear oil level in the gear box before using it. Grease all the zerks including the PTO shaft U-joints. Engage the pto with the brush hog up in the air and lower rpms.
@@SSLFamilyDad 80-90 weight. Make sure the seal in the bottom is good. We have 2 at the farm we pump grease into out of a gun because the seals are shot.
I like seeing the diffrent uses of terms throughout the country, like 95% of people call TSC products CountRy Line. I thought it was brush hawg in the south.
If you leave your 3rd arm out grease it well. It dont take much they can sieze up. As far as advice you seem to know plenty kf tractor basics. Id rather call sugestions. Like now you have trails.......back the brush hog up to the larger trees. Clean all the grasses and junk up to the trees. It would look cleaner and less fire hazzard of dry dead stuff in the summer.
Thank your dad and take him out for a great dinner or make a great dinner at your home. For that bush hog. He saved you a lot of money to buy one. BUT you ca rent one.
It's a giant weed eater! You should buy a new tow strap. Small investment compared to repairs if it breaks and damages your trailer or other equipment while using it!
It's a good thing that your Dad watched your video and learned you wanted a Bush Hog. Good luck blazing the trails this fall.
I LOVE that you include scriptures!!! God Bless and great video!!!

Love the scripture. Perfect. Can't wait to see all the trails, especially for collecting sap!

Came from ginop sales originally? I bought a tractor from there last spring very nice folks there
Pallet wood frames and cheap plastic tarps can make pretty effective temporary equipment sheds. How are your origami or gift wrapping skills?
Glad that fell on your lap. It's definitely a big help.

Yeah, you're good with that 4000. My very cool, very vintage 600 runs a 5' at barely above idle and runs a 6' with no problem at all.
Nice unit... looks like you may have an internal leak of your 3point lift cyl. That's what usually causes that slight jerking up of the hitch...

You made me laugh when you asked if an old Ford tractor can handle it.People run 6' bush hogs on 8N's.;-)
Im glad you said this, i just bought an 8n as my first farm tractor and it's very similar to his so i was wondering

when I do a new area I always go backwards that way I do not puncture a tire
remember size the implement to the size of the tractor not the HP lol
Wow. That works great.
Just a tip, when you start a brush hog try to start the blades when they aren't touching anything
Leave some play in top link when cutter on ground . Run mine on hog at about 45 degree angle
are you going to rake out the brush cutter debris, and build yourself a big compost heap with it?
Will probably leave it to bed down the trail
GOSH that thing is awesome!! :-O
Did you say resting place or rusting place
😂
My ol strap is exactly the same
Why don't you build out of palette a cover for all of your big equipment
Nice gift!
Darn right it's made in America! It is made in Kansas! Best of luck. Seems to work great.
Find a way to safely get under the mower and keep the blades sharp! The tractor won't have to work as hard.
We should start a go fund me for a new tow strap. That thing is way past it’s time!!😂😂
did you ever Bale the hey or is the weather been too bad👍✌
I sure did, video will be out Wednesday!
I am glad you got that bush hog! 😎How much land do you have?
I believe they have just about 50 acres
I know we are not supposed to be envious but....
Nice. Very nice.
Bush hogs are da bomb. On your flat land it will be easy, it cuts brush, not trees!
That 4000 will handle a 6-foot bush hog no problem
Let's go trail blazin'.
Well???? Did some grease fix the wheel???
Don't know I put it away after That, I will try it next time
Thanks !!!
