    Just use asphalt milling. Much cheaper.
    If you want a cleaner look, use that as your base and top it with limestone gravel with the dust.

    Good job. I used to haul gravel for a living and in cold weather we would have "tailgate" spread that for you (no spreader chains with chunky frozen material, but about 8-12" thick) so that all you would have to is spread it out and smooth it.
    A little safety criticism, You had the PTO engaged while you were hooking up the back blade. Spinning shafts have been known to snag gloves,shirts, etc. Best bet, never work behind the tractor with the PTO engaged.
    My wife and I love your videos and the scripture at the end of each one.

    You can use old carpet as a base so you do not loose the rock. Just put it down and put the rock on top. And love all you do.

    Love those old tractors. I have an 801 I use every day. A rock rake works wonders. My driveway is over a quarter mile and I use a flat blade, box blade and rock rake to maintain it.

    Loving the updates this year...You're tending to post right when I'm going thru videos in the AM before work for me on the West Coast...Its nice to have some personal downtime after an AM scripture read, then your video of knowledge pops(subscription alert) and a nice tie-in with your scripture verse choice that matches your update....Nice touch. All for Him and keeping in His Word....Also you obviously know, "Happy wife, happy life" :-)

    Loved watching it. I felt like when I was a kid on our farm and dad did the same thing. We had a very long driveway that got pot holes all the time. Like you said.. little by little. Nice work!

    Well....for a temp fix that might be ok, but in spring I would dig the whole thing up and pile it some place, then go about a foot down and then have a good base of 3 to 4 inch pit run brought in, about 6 to 8 inches, pack the hell out of it all summer then add that rock back on top and pack the hell out of it before winter and it should serve you well for years..... I am up in wisconsin, and that's what I did and very seldom need to do any kind of patch work.

    Great job and that should get you through till spring unless you have heavy equipment come through. I will be raising mine up after April/May thaw to divert the water a different direction. Blessings.

    You should have filled them with dirty first and just used the gravel for the top. The gravel will just pop out as you drive over it if there's nothing in there to cement it together.

      The first time the temps are above freezing all that gravel is going to almost disappear with the mud. I now need another load of top dress to make the top layer nice and smooth

    I'm curious why ppl put thumbs down on a video... I liked it, that's a nice, sturdy, Lil Ford tractor you have but don't tell my chevy-loving family I said that. All things built in 68/69 were made to last... I turned 50 last Nov lol.

    Its a shame when the drive was put in they didn't provide for proper drainage. Gravel roads or drives need a good crown to them and the water needs a place to go, like a ditch.

    hope the best; alas gravel over solid dirt (July - August) holds up. unless the proper pack winter gravel sinks. alas you might figure the cost of another drop next summer, and do it then even if you see no pond then (btw 1.5 mi of private lane :( )

    If you can't FIND a hitch keeper, perhaps you can find someone to replicate another one. Do you know any blacksmiths?
    Did you get a plan together yet, for repairing the bucket forks? I thought of another pallet project that you could use with them: a cradle for your tree sap barrel. Nail, screw or otherwise affix a cradle to a pallet (maybe make one from another pallet) and job done. ☺ Then it would be very easy and fast to just scoop up the barrel, and it wouldn't roll over when you don't want it to.

    Some friendly advice... when you have holes like that in your driveway before you spread gravel fill the holes with big rock the best I know of is big flat shale but any rock is better than none as long as its big say 4" plus bigger is better. It will stop the holes from returning and also keeps you from dumping 300 bucks into a couple holes. Were you to put big rock in those holes you could of then spread that gravel over more or less the entire driveway and built up the whole thing like an inch or two and gotten it to drain out of the road into the grass where its needed and away from places that make holes in the first place. Trust me this is the only way I've found to stop holes and it even works for high semi truck traffic.

    Love the tractor. When we purchased our farm we bought an old 1962 international bulldozer for like 3500 (I think) not running. Husband got it running did allot of work with it on the property then it broke down again. I swear he has spent 2 years of the 3 years we have been here working on that bulldozer. Tractors here are lots of money. Trying to do things cash these days so it will be a while till we get one.

    You can get 20 ton of type 1 mot in the uk for about £160 ($200) you would be able to pretty much do your whole drive way with that.

    Check out what @PureLivingForLife did on their driveway they used roadbed fabric so they had a barrier and the rock wouldn't keep sinking and you don't need to keep adding every year. Once and done maybe more if it gets plowed away

    • @CaptainCocktale
      @CaptainCocktale 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was just going to mention using road fabric but I had a feeling someone might have beat me to it. While road fabric is not the cheapest thing on earth. It does protect your investment from just migrating into the mud over time. It keeps the gravel and dirt separate so that you dont have to repeatedly buy gravel each year.

    I think if you get some gravel with clay in it, it might pack down and last a little longer.

  • @spagettiosaddict
    @spagettiosaddict 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Next time you see a paving company doing a road or parking lot tell them you want their millings. Also make sure none of the stone you get has any slag mixed into it. Its poisonous

  • @laurabunyard8562
    @laurabunyard8562 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You must have clay. Every time you drive in and out when it isn't' frozen, the clay gets stuck to your vehicles and falls off elsewhere, or just driving through it you splash the clay up on the sides and the hole gets deeper either way.
