    There's not enough videos on TH-cam about the balanced plate method. Tons of videos about counting calories, keto, low carb, plant-based, WW, etc. I really appreciate videos like this one, because it just makes so much sense, it's sustainable, and it can work in any lifestyle. Thank so much for posting your experiences with your food and weight loss, it's so helpful.

    I started walking 10 minutes a day. I got to 6 miles a day. I pulled it back, and go about 2 to 3 miles a day now (you are right, it's cold). Start slow, and do what you can. I started to really enjoy just getting out by myself. Also, I listen to a book while I'm walking. I get so involved in my books I don't realize how far I have gone.

      I love this! I don't mind walking in the cold, but I just get so darned comfortable on the couch. I think what you did it tremendous. I remember starting at 30 minutes in my mid 30s and working my way up to one and a half hours. I enjoyed it so much once I got past the "I don't want to today" part. If I skipped it, I felt off.

    So glad to see an influencer NOT pushing the carnivore diet! 😁 You have a nice well rounded diet, IMO. I eat pretty much the same foods you do, except I don’t eat beef, pork or gluten. I also think it’s important to eat your snacks every day so you don’t feel deprived. And I’m with you on the yogurt, I don’t buy the fat free. I want the fat in my yogurt! And I like to eat nuts or cheese with my fruit too. You reminded me, I need to go back to eating ground flaxseed, for the estrogen. I like it in my yogurt.
    Great video! 😁

    My way of thinking about exercise: I don’t even think of it as exercise when going out for a walk. I go for a nice stroll. 🚶🏽‍♀️ As I am walking, I love to look at what is around me… the trees, the sky, seeing and hearing the birds singing. It’s a time for me to breathe in fresh air. I like to pray. Sometimes I just like being quiet while I walk, emptying all thoughts and just living in the present. Sometimes I like going and listening to music or an audible book. But mostly, I enjoy being quiet, living in the moment and observing nature. I find I feel refreshed when coming home. And I now look forward to my strolls, weather permitting. I hope this helps you. You have done so much in helping me. Thank you so much for sharing all you are learning. You make a great teacher! 😊❤

    "I don't know, I just want it!" 😂😂😂 I can SO relate to that! I have been mindful of what I'm eating since watching these helpful videos, and because it's not a quick -loss approach, it helps to adjust to a healthier lifestyle, I think. It's long-term, it's a lifestyle like you said, and there's definitely an adjustment period! I also have had good results with Leslie Sansone videos. Even 15 minutes helps me, because I honestly don't like exercise! Thank you for doing these videos!

I have a good amount of wt to lose but your goal is 50 pounds resonated with me. If I can lose 50 and keep it off, that would be a win for me. I started right after you posted about it the first time. I’ve lost 30 pounds and can tell this is something I know I can do. Keep the tips coming! I really enjoy your content! I'm 55 and have lost 25+ pounds and counting. We got this!!! I find what helps me is counting calories and strength training. In fact i lost 8 pounds solely by strength training just using the machines at my gym 2x a week for 6 months. I made no other changes at that time and didn't realize i had lost weight but I've read that increasing your muscle mass increases your basal metabolic rate so you burn more calories even at rest. The real loss started when I adjusted my portion sizes and counted calories. I'm vegetarian but was eating Indian restaurant food twice a week and didn't realize i was inhaling thousands of calories in those meals because some of the dishes are very dense in calories. I learned to make healthier versions at home with less butter and even make pakoras in my air fryer. Ngl they aren't as good as the restaurant ones but like they say "nothing tastes as good as slim feels." A few more pounds and I'll be out of the Obese BMI range. People are starting to notice and I've gone down a clothing size. 🎉

    • @slsilver481
      @slsilver481 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One tip I have for everyone is that air fryers can be used to reduce fat in deep fried stuff. We still get takeout occasionally and I will throw the samosas or fries in our air fryer for a few minutes and then blot with paper towels. A lot of oil comes out. I also limit the portions.

    This plan is something I can do. Just those first 2 weeks will be hard. I'm starting today, Cathy!🥗. I love getting fresh air everyday. Even when we get snow. So walking is a good way for me to get exercise. Our YMCA has chair yoga, which is less stress on joints that I'm doing. That's fun too.

    We have a stationary bike for the days we can't get out and walk. I hop onto it, put a show with some eye candy in it, and the originally planned 30 minutes turns into an hour watching that while I bike. I've also been on an apple kick lately for my snacks, slicing and dividing them out into grab and go containers in the fridge with a stick of string cheese. Staying on plan is so much easier when you plan for it!

    I think it's a good solid common sense approach to eating. If you don't lose for several months, then I would consider using a slighter smaller plate to reduce portion sizes. But this is great considering how restrictive most diets can be.

I exercise a lot....meaning I walk each day if weather permits (I live in NWO ) and do yoga and have found a great TH-camr that I follow for strength training etc but my weight will not change. I try to eat low carb, I intermitent fast yet I still do not loose weight. I am so tired of counting calories/macros, etc. I have become very interested in this balanced plate approach. Thank you for this video....very informative and I have taken away alot of info to hopefully to apply to my lifestyle.

    I found your video so interesting and informative! I grew up on a farm. So, every thing I ate was home grown and healthy. When I retired, I wasn’t as active any longer. And, like you, I am a stress eater. Only. I don’t limit myself to just sweets. I wanted to eat everything and anything! Last January (2023) I hit 207 lbs and I was shocked! I knew I had to do something. So I started Intermittent Fasting and Keto.
    It did help me loose 32# and so this year I am 32# lighter which I am happy about but I still have 25# to go to my goal weight. And, I am completely bored and so over the Keto thing! I have been scoping out different types of eating. But none jumped out to me as doable. Either because of the types of food and also because of being so restrictive. It is why Keto bored me. I like this Balance Plate idea and I am gonna check out some of your videos and research this a little bit more. Thanks!!

    Hey Cathy you are doing so great. My husband and i try to visit the Gym 3 days a week and walk around the neighborhood on nice day we enjoy the scenery of the mountains and looking at the pretty yards how everyone decorates their yard, it gives you good ideas and you get to enjoy theirs. Plus you get to say hello to your neighbors which is nice and other days we walk on our little treadmill we just got it at a thrift store. It’s nothing fancy but it works great. We take a break from walking every once in awhile so we have to start over i guess we get lazy and our medical advisor gets on us, we also like to hike which is fun, find a friend you can hike with start small maybe a mile and choose safe, hiking routes. Its very relaxing and good for stress.

    I struggle with getting enough protein, too. (Somehow I get more than enough fiber, but not enough protein unless I focus on it.). Everyone has to do what works for them -- for me -- I found some really good protein powders so when I make a smoothie, I add a scoop or two of protein powder and that adds 20-30 grams of protein to my smoothie. I like Plant Fusion and Orgain (Orgain is at Costco) but the ones I love the most I have to get from the company -- it's called Sprout Living Sunflower Protein or their pumpkin seed protein. They are only sunflower or pumpkin seeds. Nothing else! And delicious!

    Some of you may find this helpful .. I started taking a fat-soluble novel form of Thiamine (B1) called TTFD last year. Thiamine is a key metabolic regulator and is severely depleted with any type of stress including injury, accident, infection. After 9 months, my waking body temperature rose from 36.2C to a normal 37C. Since menopause my body temperature has been low, as low as 35.5C Thyroid lab results were "normal". Sound familiar? Now, I have energy, sleep deeper, and can eat normally without weight gain. A popular social media pharmacist, Isabella Wentz, who has had her own battle with hypothyroidism, also found that TTFD helped her. Talking to women over 50, I hear over and over that they have a low body temperature and many signs of hypothyroidism, and yet they can't get any treatment for these serious symptoms.

      I have been eating the balanced plate for about 40 years. It kept me slim prior to menopause but something really went awry with my metabolism at menopause. My husband is super slim and eats the balanced plate .. he loses weight if he doesn't have 4 meals daily. Yes, he is lovely and toasty warm 37-37.2C morning temperature.

    I worked with a woman who was very busy and didn't cook and her doctor told her instead of joining a meal delivery plan, she could eat whatever she normally eats for breakfast. Eat a prepared frozen lean cuisine or healthy choice or other low cal. Brand entree with all the fruit she wanted for lunch. And for dinner, another low cal frozen entree and all the vegetables she wanted. She lost a lot of weight and it was easy for her and pretty healthy.

      Most frozen diet dinners have too much sodium and sugar, and not enough vegetables or fiber.

    • @womanofacertainage5892
      @womanofacertainage5892 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the "eat all the vegetables she wanted" probably made up for the lack of fiber in the frozen meals, at least. Higher sodium isn't much of a problem unless you have an existing health condition. Is eating two frozen meals a day ideal? Nope, but if she needed to lose weight for health and if that worked for her -- it could be a good plan for a while. Sometimes we need to do what works immediately, then over time we can find healthier, better ways to eat. I think we need to be careful about being judgmental of others' situations. Until you are that person (and you will never be that person), you really can't know.@@lindyd8837

    pushing down feelings does NOT get rid of those feelings. the feelings have to come out SOMEWHERE/SOMETIME....take time at least each week (better if daily) to consider what you are FEELING and FEEL it. sorrow, anger, resentment, regret, loneliness.... take the time to FEEL it. we don't have to "suck it up". we need to feel those feelings so they can FINALLY do their "job", and help us reflect on the past and choose joy in the future. [ i let my self feel the sorrow/anger/self pitying/regrets of a death, and NOW the silly, ridiculous, joyful memories can come visit more often]

    Flaxseed only has 2 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber in each tablespoon. You can always eat a slightly larger portion of protein at your meals have maybe have a protein shake or protein bar (like a Built bar) to supplement.

      2.8 grams of fiber in 1 tbsp ground flax, low in carbs, but the important part is that it is excellent for heart health. No, not great for protein, but really great! As are chia seeds seeds if you don't have a fatty liver.
