    I had the good fortune to meet Al Smith at the Northwest Overland Rally this year...what a great guy to talk with about overlanding. He was there showing his Jeep Kitchen setup but I think he was really there just to talk and meet people. I was really impressed by his attitude and really enjoyed meeting and talking with him.

    Great advice! Just get the essentials (shelter, food, and water) and head out and take a weekend trip. See what works and what needs to be upgraded/replaced as you start going on more/longer trips. You may find out that the expensive gear that people were raving about just isn't necessary or doesn't fit your travel/camping style.

    I have a 4x4 sequoia with a sink, stove and cooler in one drawer and storage in the other drawer and there's sleeping for 2 on top of the cabinet. RTT with awning I can carry 5 people and sleep 5 people thanks to a 2nd piece I slide in when I fold the seats up, so I don't have to take the seats out and have a full size bed area inside and sleeping for 3 on the RTT :)

    My husband and I are getting ready for our first adventure in Arizona. We have a 1980 Jeep J10. We are heading out during the cool weather months. I have been looking at these Jeep tents our Jeep has a truck bed it's awesome. We are soooooo excited. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much 👍

    JKU is my dream car and it'd be amazing to be able to live in it than purchasing a cheap van, however the roof top tent will be noticeable if I were to ever sleep in the city versus a campsite or boon docking for travel assignments. That is my dilemma lol beautiful setup with the kitchen, definitely something to consider! 😃 Thanks for sharing.

      If you are alone you dont need a roof top tent. u can sleep inside your jeep

    • @rogue109
      @rogue109 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only if you are short...Even with my back seats folded down, I don't fit when laying out flat. Also, I carry stuff...like a fridge, water, a table, a chair, a mess kit and spare clothes and misc. others stuff...I'd have to empty out the back to sleep in it and I'd still not fit. I bought a CVT roof top tent that is their smallest version. It weights about 80lbs and is really comfortable to sleep in...takes almost no time to setup but does take about 10 minutes or so to pack up. I think it cost just under a thousand dollars, but not sleeping on the ground is amazing. Pretty much anywhere you can park your Jeep on a level area you have a campground with very little effort. I won't go back to sleeping on the ground.

    in australia you can get basically get that exactly same kitchen/rear drawer set up that is custom fit to most wagons and universal ones to fit a ute canopy set up with at least 10 major companies ( just walk around a 4wd and camping expo).... it looks like he almost copied some of those companies...

    I can't believe you can park up for three days running the fridge and still be able to start that vehicle , that must be some battery you have most trucks would be in trouble after 24 hours !

      Diana Carroll usually people have a two battery set up, one for the vehicle and an auxiliary battery for the rest.

    Pulls out the Coleman and its "Ready to cook". Hmmm no. Lets get some reality. You have to open the Coleman's lid, swing out the two side wind deflectors and attach them to the side of the base, lift the grill, reach in and lift out the fuel tank, lower the grill, put the fuel tank into place and then start pumping the tank to pressurise it, turn the air regulator to the vertical position, light it, wait for the generator to heat up so that the fuel burns cleanly, then turn the air regulator back down to normal and THEN you are ready to cook. Oh and none of this is new its all been out for years and the prices, comical is all I can say!

    • @geographyinaction7814
      @geographyinaction7814 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously? You didn't get into the mining that produced the materials to make the stove, or the extraction methods to produce the fuel. You could have gone into the detail of the morning fart whilst still in the shit-sack, and the process of taking a morning piss!
      Besides, if you're using propane instead of Naptha, then you do not need to pressurize anything.

      you'd be surprised, plywood set ups are actually the noisiest. most of the metal drawer set ups are actually over engineered so they are very heavy, but very sturdy and barely make a noise ( except for the contents rattling around inside them)

    • @1Torquedsoul
      @1Torquedsoul 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jeremy Bacon sorry but I disagree. My plywood home depot special is very quite, heavy but quite.

    He's missed out on a lot of America by not staying at organized campgrounds from time to time! I'm not a fan of this American Overland rule, but I suppose mine would be " you aren't really in the wilderness unless you got there by bike, foot, canoe or at least a horse " limiting what you experience to only the places reachable by vehicle? Now that's not cool, unless you're handicapped! Hard to pack in a noisy generator, right?
