There's a time and place for everything, but yeah, 11 on everything moments are few and far between. Maybe when you're doing that Slam BDM/techno fusion project, lol
What I discovered with my guitar is that I have to put the bass to almost zero and crank up the high mids for it to sound similar to the tutorials because my pickups are so bassy
Amp sims sound like shit. I would never NEVER get the idea to record my guitars with amp sims. And even for demos I get well better sounds with small amps than with shit sounding amp sims. Altough. Some Softtube amps are ok. Whereas AmpliTube just sound horrible!! EDIT: Also, when my "Equipment" sound good with a real tube amp and sounds like shit with amp sims, isn't this kind of pathetic? When Amp Sims first came up, the idea was that these will someday become a substitute for real amps. But still, to this day, I haven't heard one single Amp Sim that could really hold up to a real amp. And the thing
A funny thing that I just figured out today is that my pickups actually up the treble quite a bit, and I had to roll off the treble dial completely on my amp for it to sound good. That can happen with gain too, so don't heccin crank the gain unless you have to, yes
Within six 6 years, I've upgraded my audio interface, computer, DAW, guitar, cables, many amp sims, countless hours of research and tweaking and my guitars still sound like shit. My passion for making music has disappeared. Anyone else haha?
Oh fuck dude, i hear you man... Im so close to giving up - I hear all these sick sounds from amp sims, I just CANT get close - it sounds like shit... why haah? killing me
It can be pretty tough sometimes... Do you play in a band, or in a "concrete" solo project ? I remember when i was playing in my first "serious" band 15 years ago, comparing my tone with the other guitar player. Both running good guitars, amps and cabs... His tone was perfect. Everyone was complimenting him about his tone. The settings on his 5150 was crazy, like : Bass to 0, Mids and Highs cranked up. I was not able to sound that good, even when playing through his gear. I borrowed him for recording once, and I had to suck the mids to 1 or 2, crank the bass, etc to sound "ok". Then, I realized that he knew his gear, knew how to make it sound good and that why he bought it. He had a clear idea about the tone he was chasing. I play for almost 20 years now, but I still feel like you. No matter how much time or money I spend, even a 2000 $ guitar, 3000 $ amp won't help me. I just don't know what kind of tone I want, because I just "play" to record stuff in Cubase in every style I can play. Writing this comment makes me realize how stupid it is to buy gear so blindly... Seeing "bedroom guitarists" achieving good productions for a few hundred bucks really breaks my heart. I know the best way is to know my gear and chasing a tone, but I just can't do that... I keep switching between amps, modelers, amp sims...
I am 100% in the same boat as you. I have spent hundreds of hours with different programs and gone through the ringer with equipment and still always the same result as when I first started 15 years ago. Now with Tonex just coming out, NOTHIGN has changed for me. I give up. Going back to a real tube amp
One more here... I've tried Every single brand new amp Sim from the most famous company out there... I've bought 2 different audio interfaces, 1 line6 pod, a new guitar and still nothing... It started to get better with a plugin of 10 years ago (ezmix guitar gods)...but I still having fun
I have the same problem of direct in w elec guitar into a solo. What fader needs to be 12db or higher. Today I found that the guitar fader on the rhythm channel did nothing to clean up the tone. What I did find was keeping the STEREO OUT at twelve and no less really cleaned up the tone. And calmed my angst down. It is frustrating. Second is the UA HAS a UNISON plugin that affects everything across the board. So usually that is a plug-in pre amp. How as a rule of thumb should that be set I really enjoy your candid everyday talk and explanations. Hope u can help me. Thanks. ALAN
I’m really happy with my guitar sound and I feel really fortunate - I don’t quite understand all the technical stuff. As long as everything is working for me I don’t really have to. Does that make me lazy?
Hi Calvin, So ironic my name is Calvin too. Glad i found your channel because the problems i'm having are exactly what you are describing, im new to messing around with amp sims and plugins and so confused on how a lot of people get such great sound and tone. i hope you can help.me. I use bias fx2 Elite and other sims but the crackle and pops and fizz are just crazy. i use a PresSonus interface and all the settings are correct. im curious to know if i use a USB DAC with my interface will this improve the quality? Or is a DAC the same thing as a interface? stupid question i know but i can't find any info about this... Thanks for your time..
@@StateOfMercury Hey thanks, i did some of the things you mentioned EQ Roll back volume ect and it helped a lot. what about a noise gate before or after the EQ, or will this make my sound or tone worse..
I just get a very short less than a second feedback type noise when ever I pause. Also my pick sound is almost like high pitched no matter what setting I have it on. I’m lost.
hey man i have the presonus audio box usb 96 and i use the amped roots software i don t really know why but it s really really noisy and not enough gain like i can t get chugs even if i have the gain turned up to max , i even have a di box i really don t know what im doing wrong do you have an ideea ?
My amp sims can literally not hold sustain for more than 4 seconds even on my les paul. is this just a general amp sim issue? Or is it something i’m doing wrong or missing?
100% my issue and my tones just have absolutely zero balls or oomph. I feel like EVERYTHING is made for people with insane active pickups these days.... or something... i just dont get.
All that and if your expeting a real plexi or 800 tone forget it. I think the only plugin thats close, to my ears, is the Mecurial Spark. But its getting better every year or 2, or 5
What guitar you recommend to buy for the and justice for sound from guitar center. I'm a beginner not even a beginner just thinking about playing guitar
Hey, Calvin i have a question.. When i use bias fx2 or anything and playing my guitar for some reason i can hear my dry input signal mixed there.. whst's up with that. all input output are correct
Is your interface set up correctly? I'm sure in the year since you posted you figured this out, but sometimes you're hearing DI from your interface on top of the DI into your DAW and only one is being processed. Most interfaces should have routing software to correct the issue.
I love the fact that he recorded the video in his kitchen
@@StateOfMercury Wait it is yours? I wish I had that kitchen
The kitchen is bitchen though.
@@StateOfMercury keep cooking up videos xD
The turning the gain down bit I've found to be so important. too much gain makes my tone sound like a fart

I do the same with my grestch push highs and mids. Low bass to about 8 or 9

ALL THE GAIN
NO MIDS
SLAYER!!!
FUCKING SLAYER
LOL, Slayer tone is all mids.
I never knew that the order of sim fx was important the way actual pedals is. Thanks!
I hope you still like the idea of Down With The Sickness on Master Of Puppets, ‘cause I’d still really like you to do that.

So you're saying that randomly turning dials with an EQ tool isn't a magic solution to everything.
Works for me, and it gets better everytime!

What do you think is the biggest difference between Master of Puppets vs ...And Justice for all when it comes to guitar tone?

another thing to add as far as checking gain, if youre clipping before adding any distortion, that can cause damage to the interface over time.
