I seen from an Lao TH-camr that some of these jars are even on people property one here and there. Thanks for bring this to light so other can understand the long hard history of Laos. Thanks for the video. Remember Kenedy was killed by the CIA in 63'. Some of these jars are thought to be much older than 3000 years old and were probably used for food storage and the burials came much later and some of the disks are thought to be lids but were used the other side, rings down. I got to visit this place in the 90's while being part of the groups that were "cleaning up from the war". Bear in mind that this was a battlefield before the americans got involved and some of the jars were already destroyed or used in other buildings and so on (at least that is what the archeologists at the site told us). Enjoy your travels :)

    It's really so sad, the amount of damage the US bombings has done to Asia. Most likely each jar is for each family that used it for generations. I really wonder if they were the ancestors of Baiyue or Miao people that eventually got displaced and moved to the rest of Southeast Asia or got assimilated with the Chinese people. Yeah, these were probably the Basal-East Asians that have populated these regions for more than 10 thousand years.

  • @user-te1bs4bk3s
    @user-te1bs4bk3s 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Another fascinating video! If the ancient people (perhaps it was the Khmu or other Austro-Asiatic people) of Laos carved the jars to bury their dead, I wonder why they chose the shape of jars specifically. Also, the fact that remains of human settlement haven't been found near the jar sites makes it even more mysterious. A little off-topic, but it makes me mad that people have littered the jar sites with rubbish ughh!!

    • @Craig_Black
      @Craig_Black  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s intensely interesting.. It feels like it’s always been a grassland and that the forested areas were not like that in its hay day.. it could have been the Khmu. Forest clearings were sacred amongst the nature worshippers in Britain. Maybe they were natural clearings in the forest.
      Some people think the jars are in the shape of the opium Poppy’s seed pod. Many plant were sacred and I find it hard to believe opium wasn’t sacred for all its medicinal-properties. Maybe that has something to do with cremation as they would have burnt the poppies for its mind altering effect much like almost every society that was exposed to it.
      The shapes vary though, I’d love to know why. Also there are different carvings on the stone discs. Some have humans and some have animals. Maybe some animal as were buried. I now think it was a sacrifice. I believe one important man was cremated when he died, maybe the chief. Then he had his wives or slaves killed along with animals. This is a really common occurrence in the ancient world. In Viking mythology, only warriors that die in battle may go to “heaven”. Maybe the cremation was sacred and must have been saved for a particular type of person in their culture.
      The litter is infuriating, I saw some people playing golf there too. Hitting the jars with the balls.

    • @user-te1bs4bk3s
      @user-te1bs4bk3s 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So much food for thought. I would never have thought of the shape of poppy seed pods.
      It's interesting how cultures from different parts of the world can have similar beliefs concerning burial practices and the afterlife. As you travel around the world and visit more unique sites, I think it would be interesting if you were to draw some comparisons with the ancient sites & cultures of Great Britain.
      Hitting such archaeological marvels as these jars with golf balls... how can people be so disrespectful!

    I agree with you. I had the same hypothesis. These things along with pyramids, etc, are much much older than scientists think. I believe that humans weren’t the first evolved beings on earth. I believe that in the millions of years the earth has been around, there has been a few evolved beings that has habited the earth before us, and each one may have been more technologically advanced than the one that came after, meaning whatever evolved beings that came before us, may have been a lot more advanced than we are. But like us, they probably ruined the earth and killed themselves off or mother earth couldn’t sustain them and caused natural disasters that made these beings go extinct, or they could have left earth because it was not sustainable for life at that time, and the “aliens” we think today that are visiting us from other planets, maybe beings that are checking back on us from another planet but earth was their original home planet. Yeah, crazy ideas, but at one point in history, people called people like me crazy, and today the government admits aliens are real! Haha

    The crematorium you were in was once a built structure that's why the entrance is so perfect and it felt like a cathedral because that's hiw it was originally built. That site is so old those jars whatever they originally were were not stone either whatever cataclysmic event that turned the building into a cave turned those things stone and a long time after some primitive people wandering around found this site realized it's significance probably associated it with gods and subsequently buried their dead in them. And why was it clandestinely bombed more than anything in history, this middle of nowhere place? To hide history maybe? History of more advanced civilizations than ours and much larger. Drinking cups for giants. It looks like petrification has taken place more so than being carved especially on the lids

      I don't think the people were wiped out, they just dispersed somewhere and they practically populated Asia because the most likely thing is that these are Basal East Asian people, the people that share all of Asia and Oceania genes. Mesopotamia is like 4-6K Years old and China's kingdom is 5k Years old and has been well established, there are surely older Kingdoms before them in many parts of Asia especially Northeast-central mainland Southeast Asia. Asia has been populated for Millions of years before Modern Humans aka Homo Sapiens dominated, there are the Denisovans and other Convergent evolution species, they are just not digging enough so I really wish they would dig more so we understand our story better. Easter island is pretty young and probably just the same Polynesian Oceania people, Austronesian people have been navigating the seas for thousands of years. Austronesian people have been sailing the seas 2000 years before the Vikings made their long boats.
