  • Upanishads constitute the pinnacle of the vedic philosophy and the vedanta literature. Consequently, over the course of more than two millenniums, many philosophers have explored Upanishads and have provided their interpretations. Undoubtedly the most significant of them was the Adi Shankara (Adi Shankaracharya).
One of the defining philosophers of the ancient India, Adi Shankaracharya belonged to 8th Century CE. The most influential exponent of the Advaita Vedanta, his commentary on Upanishads is considered to be the most authentic one . His commentary on Upanishads led to the classification of the 10 major Upanishads, as well.
In this second installment of the series on Upanishads, Prof. V. Kutumba Shastri takes an overview of Adi Shankara's commentary on Upanishads. In doing so, he gives us an elaborate glimpse of the Advaita Vedanta.
Prof. V. Kutumba Shastri is a great scholar of Sanskrit. He has served as the Vice Chancellor of "Rashtriya Sanskrit Samsthan" in the past. He currently is the Infosys chair at Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute.

Such a clearcut explanation how can go waste? If one is in negative outlook none can help. Posives imbibe and from negative also if we treat in healthy point of view nothing will be waste. Even in our mundane life if black is not how can one see white? Can one's intellect work without discrimination?

Interesting and welcome talk. But I'd hope that, in modern times, organisers of such discourse, which highlight our ancient intuitions and wisdoms, make an attempt to juxtapose these with modern scientific knowledge. That may help draw closer the two dichotomous branches of seeking - Science and Religion. Such an attempt will be unique and has the potential to set the trend for a new kind of inquiry, which can illuminate the minds of many - who would otherwise may not be able to connect the past with the present.
