Thanks for sharing this fascinating footage of the old Caernarfon to Bangor stretch of line. I'm too young to have ever used it, but it seems criminal that that particular line, to Avonwen was ripped up.
When I was 7 I drove a diesel shunter along that line. Got on at the Ferodo crossing and drove to Ala Las footbridge just outside Caernarfon. My Dad and I got out and were told NEVER to tell anyone because the driver would have lost his job. By the way, do you have the FULL (the whole trip) unedited footage of this trip? I'm happy to pay you for a DVD copy. The person on the crossing at 3:30 was Jane (a lovely old lady) who used to open and close the gates. her and her Brother used to live at Ty Crossus. Now home to a Local Hero Sam Roberts (Zambezi) who used to climb with Joe Brown, has scaled Everest and many other famous mountains.
This film was already on dvd when I was given a copy, but I have transferred 8mm cine to digital myself simply by running it through a projector and videoing it with a camcorder off a small video converter screen bought cheaply off Ebay with decent results. The film of the Bala Lake Railway 1978 and Ruabon & Wrexham in 1978 was done this way.
You could try getting in touch with the National Screen and Sound Archive Aberystwyth (Part of the national Library of Wales). They might be interested in storing this old film for you in archival conditions, and if so they would digitise a copy for you. They did with mine.
Amazing footage, I travelled to Caernarvon on a North Wales Runabout Rover Ticket not long before the branch closed.
Excellent footage of the lattice footbridge at Caernarfon the goods exchange sidings at Menai Bridge and the Vaynol Tunnels!

Hi, can I ask what process did you use to get the 8mm cine film on to TH-cam, I have some 8mm of family & North Wales that need converting.
