    I so much like what Volvo is doing. They recognized that Hybrid drive is the way to go for the next 10-20 years, rather than full electric. Batteries are just not there yet. There was period when their model range was stagnant, but with new platform they will grow exponentially. While other manufacturers are stepping carefully, and trying to see first where, and when is change coming Volvo is saying "we are doing it now, we are doing it first, and we are doing it with all our cars". Just head on into the future right now. Fantastic. :D

      +etbadaboum: Absolutely agree. Volvo seem to be diving headfirst into the High Tech world, of small petrol engines, utilising Turbos and Supercharging. This gives their vehicles both great fuel economy, combined with exceptional power outputs. If these new Volvos give their owners the superior build qualities, along with the reliability and safety Volvo is renown for, well Volvo will be batting 100% in this new world, in the evolving role of the Car and People.
      Volvo seem to have finally Nailed Down, a Modern Sophisticated Design Language. Using the Scandinavian maxims of Less is More. This Philosophy is Front and Centre in the new XC90, S90 and V90, and appears to be very evident in the totally new line XC40, S40 and V40.
      Volvo have always built strong, well engineered, safety conscious cars. Not Cheap Cars! Volvo = Quality!!! Quality materials in construction, which impart a sense of security to their owners. I owned a V70 in 2007 as my daily work vehicle, it was an exceptionally beautiful well constructed car, we Never had a problem with this car. I felt safe driving her, even in harsh rainy weather, on foggy nights, on unlit country roads. The car felt very strong, well constructed and easy to operate.

      +Mark Law Yeah Volvo is on a roll. I only regret that they apparently won't develop a 30 lineup . I miss the C30 so much!

    • @marklaw4435
      @marklaw4435 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      etbadaboum: Yes they need a bigger range of choices. If they don't, they will always be a second tier Manufacturer. They need at least another two lines of cars. A small car, for city people, to use for work commutes, but also for annual trips etc.
      Then a true Sports Car, every serious car brand does this.
      By having this type of diversity, they create a total life strategy, where a young 20+ Female/Male gets into the brand, and gets to like the cars quality, its reliability and top end advanced engineering capabilities.
      They have a sporty alternative for when they are young, and dating, or having a mid life crisis. Then having a family, the S40, S60 with the Off Road Variants XC40/60...
      Then the S90, as you become more successful or getting older, and after pure Luxury and Refinement.
      Anyway, thats my thoughts on Volvo. Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Jaguar are doing this, some better than others. But I think Volvo must get into this additional Model Philosophy, or they will remain a bit player, when they really deserve a much greater part, in the Worlds Automotive Future. Regards,

    Volvo is one of those companies that makes me proud to be Scandinavian! Even though the cars are Swedish, the song is Norwegian ;) haha Running with the wolves by Aurora, the original is way better.

      No, technically they're a Swedish automaker owned by a Chinese company, just like they were Swedish back when Ford owned them. They seem to be less restrained under the Chinese though, and we can all see the results.

    I have a 2003 S60 2.5T AWD that I lowered on coilovers and put bigger wheels on for better handling. I don't ever want to get rid of that car but if I do, I will most likely get the new S40 when it comes back to America.

    The next gen 2017 Volvo XC40, a taller crossover like the (40.1 concept), that C pillar, blind spots, kind of reminds me of a Jeep Renegade, anyway I guessing this will compete against the Mercedes GLA, Infiniti QX30, Jeep Renegade, Buick Encore and etc subcompact CUVs, looks like Volvo is pulling a Mercedes and launching a subcompact sedan and CUV, similar to what Mercedes did with the CLA and GLA

    Why are the engines in front of the front axle? I thought having then behind is better.

    • @looncraz
      @looncraz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have to have a pathway for the trans-axle.
      Still, the Volvo body construction is so heavy - and the engines so light - that they tend to have rather good weight balance nonetheless and handle much better than you would expect. The mass of the engine is as little forward of the drive line as possible and caster is set to keep the engine mass nearly dead center on the tire contact patch, which nicely hides the downsides of having the engine forward of the axles.

    Emission-free transportation technologies have been available for mass production for over 25 years, but without the needed infrastructure. Cars - affordable for the general public - with engines of about 1 litre fuel consumption, or cars with real water-using engines have been ready for production for over 2 decades now. These high-tech prototypes were successfully tested in countries like Canada, USA, Australia, Norway, England, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Germany, Poland, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Israel, China, India, South Korea and Japan. We should already be manufacturing 35-40 million emission-free vehicles annually, and H2O engine systems should have been producing energy instead of our fossil-based and nuclear power plants. Entire technological documentations of such technologies have vanished in the EU`s Institute for Innovation and Technology, and, according to the legislation in order, it is right to be so. The expense involved in the production of such technologies is half of that of the traditional engines, they weigh about 70% less, and they can provide a huge torque. Their working range can be several thousand miles, cars could weigh 200 kg less, and their price could be 3-4000 Euros less. Segments of nearly the entire car industry secretly have the prototypes and successful tests. At the present moment we are poisoning our environment just out of mere arrogance and greed. We live in a cheap and indecent world. I firmly claim that we simply shouldn`t lie to 7 billion people, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. This information is entirely true and I hold myself accountable for its validity.
    Sincerely, Istvan Gazso, inventor

    3 cylinder engine must and will sound just terrible!
    It is physics of balancing a petrol engine! You can already feel it yourself driving one of the budget cars with three pots but also a Mondeo, which is a big car..
    Yes, the power can be there ...one can create a 1-cylinder with 1000 hp but will it be a smooth one?
    Car companies want our money, this time premium money, and some of them offer us a noisy griding 3 cyl. toys!
    And that happen to my favorite car prouder Volvo!
    Time to say goodbye....
