    Beautiful job! After watching so many RV remodel videos and how folks use lighter colors to brighten up the space, you would think the RV manufacturers would take a hint and make them that way to begin with. I have noticed the higher-end RVs are starting to be made with lighter colors for the walls and cabinetry.
    Job well done!

      I agree, most of the RV remodels I have seen have gone for lighter colors.

    Looks great! Just a heads up...it's best practice to remove the tape as soon as you can after your last coat of painting in order to minimize the possibility of not getting a clean line when you pull it off. Especially if you use latex paint. If you let it dry completely then you might find that it starts to pull the paint and rip it further down the wall. Just my 2 cents. My dad owns a construction company and this is what he taught me.

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, that's definitely a good tip. Though in this case we had to weigh it against the fact that we did multiple coats of primer and multiple coats of paint and in the RV with so many nooks and crannies it would be so much more work to take the tape off after priming and then put it on before painting. In the end we scored along the tape with a razor blade to make sure the tape doesn't pull the paint off the wall.

    Just a tip for others taking on such a project ... Glidden Gripper used to be the standard for all kinds of work like this--even for gluing foam together in insulation and hobby projects. The stuff was amazing. However, despite claims to the contrary, when PPG took over Glidden and put out their own version of Gripper, they completely changed the formulation of the product. Our property management company has had to give up on it, the PPG rep finally acknowledging to us that they had to make changes to make Glidden profitable to the new ownership. One of the big clues is that the thin layer left on the inside of a can now can be peeled off in sheets when dry--something that could never be done with the tenacious original Gripper which primed the inside of the can like it did everything else it touched. There is at least one professional painter on TH-cam demonstrating this on behalf of all of the rest of us who are so disappointed. PPG Gripper is still fine as a general primer, mostly intended for covering stains, etc., but don't expect it to perform in the most difficult circumstances according to all the glowing reviews of Gripper online before the end of 2018. We have not found an equivalent replacement that works as well as the previous formulation did, but if you have difficult surfaces to work with, it's advisable to ask at your local specialist paint store (not big-box store) for their primer that will be closest to the old Gripper.

      Thanks for the info, I didn't know that history. Our friend Cortni from @theflippingnomad (instagram.com/theflippingnomad) has a lot of experience renovating RVs and she recommended us to use PPG Gripper. So far it has held up!

    • @ReflectedMiles
      @ReflectedMiles 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adventurous Way I learn almost everything the hard way. We were depending on the Glidden in really difficult applications (e.g., metal railing with permanent black marker used on it) and it just stopped holding onto the surface in fine droplet form like it always had. With an engineering background, I was immediately suspect but Home Depot assured us it was just a label change. It took me several more complaints before trusting my observations instead and then I found this excellent demo from a pro in the industry with exactly the change we had experienced. The new primer will probably be fine for your more-normal application. th-cam.com/video/UdKnF4JFP3Q/w-d-xo.html

    Boy howdy, do you guys do the ton or what! Too bad the REAL work didn't go as fast as the video, but much appreciated as you're letting us see how much planning, and organizing went into each stage of the build. Absolutely brilliant, and functional, as well as very smart decoratively speaking. Can't wait for the finish, as I been feeling a bit off lately, so I have a lot of catching up to do! Safe, and happy travels!

    Great work you two! Timing was perfect with Covid and even the weather in Idaho that time of year. Our 2020 ORV has lighter walls than yours did, but I really love your totally light walls. I got a big chuckle out of watching Diana paint while wearing totally black clothing 😂. You guys are such a cute team to watch! Thank you.

    Did you have to caulk any of the corners for the paint/primer to stick? I’ve heard some rvs have silicon caulking which repels paint

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our trailer had plastic molding in the corners. We removed that in some places (and replaced with wood quarter-rounds), left it and didn't paint in other places, and in some corners left it and primed/painted over it knowing it may not stick. So far it has been fine, but it has chipped in a few places.

    Do you use an oil based primer

  • @DesertAdventuresinArizona
    @DesertAdventuresinArizona 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe I missed it .. but what did you use for Primer? Wait - I found your answer below. PPG Gripper. Did it work well and is is holding up so far? ?

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PPG Gripper, yes. We have more detailed in our blog post: www.adventurousway.com/blog/rv-remodel-ergonomic-workspace
      It's only been about 3 months since the remodel, but so far it's holding up perfectly - no signs of any issues whatsoever.

    Our rv has vinyl corner straps & seams. Can you I you paint over them?

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know. Our corners and seams also had some sort plasticy (maybe vinyl?) corner trim. We pulled it out in some places, we left it in some other places and didn't paint it and in some other places we risked it and painted it the same way as the walls. So far it generally looks good, but in few places the paint has chipped on the painted plastic trim.

    A quick question. Did you want to paint the RV soonerOr did you feel like you had to wait until the manufactures warranty had expired?

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can’t say I even thought about the warranty to be totally honest! We had talked in vague terms about painting it before, but when you live full time in the trailer it’s a little more logistically complex. Because of COVID, we were staying on our friend’s land - she runs an RV renovation business and very kindly gave us full use of her shop. Perfect timing!

  • @johnhinman1459
    @johnhinman1459 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would you please share the material used for the primer?
    Did you consider removing the original wallpaper before painting? In a house one would remove wallpaper, but perhaps the trailer wall and wallpaper is different.
    The light color looks great!

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, John! We used PPG Gripper for the primer and it worked really well! Unlike wallpaper in a house, the wall coverings in the RV are bonded to the wall, so removing isn't really viable. We've got a blog post with more detail about exactly what we used here: www.adventurousway.com/blog/rv-remodel-ergonomic-workspace

      You two are doing a fantastic job! Its great to see a job done the correct way and it looks really nice. How did the original tape covering the 4 x 8 wall cracks turn out? Did you do anything to hide those lines? We have an Outdoors Rv also purchased from the Thompson family and my wife and I always look forward to your videos. Thank you for all of your hard work filming and taking us along on your journeys. Tim

    • @AdventurousWay
      @AdventurousWay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Tim!
      Good question about the seam tape... We didn't really do anything to try to conceal or hide it - there are only a couple of places where it's visible. I think having a flat color on the wall does make it more conspicuous than the subtly textured brown before, but I wouldn't say it's that obvious. You have to look pretty closely to even see them. Honestly, I'm not sure what you could do to hide them.

    • @AdventurousWay

    U.S. R.V. manufacturers have NO CLUE- They are still designing R.V.'s like the 1980's. I don't understand why they don't go to European or Austrailian R.V. SHOWS to see how to come into the 2020's! At least they are starting to use updated European windows...

      We actually have been to an RV dealership in the UK, and yes, it was totally different to what's available here. The colors were much lighter, but also the interior design seemed much more streamlined.

    • @daretodream...898
      @daretodream...898 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I totally agree. U.S. RV manufacturers are way behind. And, I wish they would acquire more women designers in the mix. Items such as lighter colors, pantry space, closet space and a washer/dryer that is not located in the master closet make all the difference to me. And drawers ... lots and lots of drawers.
