Great reaction ladies "they were the shit" - i laughed out loud at that so true. Try "Everdream" from Wacken 2013, or "storytime" from the same concert - also to try something else try a song called Sancta Terra by a band called "Epica" you must watch the right version though for quality so make sure it is from the "Live Retrospect Show" - Floor Jansen who you just watched guest vocals on the song so a nice crossover, Floor and Simone who is the singer in Epica are good friends - the genre is called Symphonic Metal that you are experiencing :) keep up the great work!!!!

I've commented before how it is nice that the younger generation is discovering Nightwish after being exposed to years of drek being pumped out by the music industry and being told that it's good. Now it's nice to see the older generations discover Nightwish and realizing that there is still good stuff being produced and that there is still hope for us.

Very enjoyable, Grannies. I am 70. Many of my Euro friends told me about Nightwish 15 years ago and I never took the time to listen. I am making up for it now, There is a ton of symphonic metal out there that we in the states have never heard and its a complete shame. Others will give you all the nightwish recommendations, but if you want to hear a beautiful song featuring 3 wonderful female singers, including Floor Jansen from Nightwish, I would look up The valley of the Queens, from the Aryeon Universe concert. I am sure you will enjoy it. :)

Somehow my brain exploded just a little bit watching two lovely elderly ladies rock out to a Nightwish song. Was reminded of my grandparents whose idea of a banger was a schlager and everything else was just terrible noise unworthy of listening to.
I'm really glad to see that there's people out there from other generations who listen to this type of music and not only appreciate it, but genuinely like/love it. Welcome to the Nightwish fandom, we hope you stay a while and enjoy yourself!
I'm sure that if I were to search the comments I would find these suggestions more than once, but I'll throw them in here as well. The Greatest Show on Earth, and the Poet and the Pendulum, both Nightwish songs, are amazing listens as well. Although if you do the Poet and the Pendulum I advise you to look into the backstory of the song a little to grasp its full story.
Love the reaction, please keep rocking!

"they were the shit"... love it !!! Haven't heard that much since Nam but you were dead on. The new singer 6' 1" Floor Jansen (Dutch) is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal but she is the most versatile female singer you are likely to hear today. This was LIVE and this band is meant to be experienced (one merely doesn't listen to Nightwish) so anything you do, especially with Floor try and do the LIVE version.
As to other bands, funny you ask... all with Dutch leading ladies on lead vocals (maybe it's the water over there) Try these:
Charlotte of Delain with Marco (Nightwish's bassist, the Viking looking one) doing The Gathering (th-cam.com/video/ChP7su4Glig/w-d-xo.html)
Simone of Epica with Floor of Nightwish Live doing Sancta Terra (th-cam.com/video/cx22Yuj2nzg/w-d-xo.html)
Sharon of Within Temptation with Anneke (other Dutch vocalist of Vuur) Live with Somewhere (th-cam.com/video/7eqBmEO5MHE/w-d-xo.html)
The other great vocalist is Dianne of Ex Libris as well as other female Dutch vocalists leading other metal groups such as the all female band Burning Witches and many others. Keep rocking ladies good taste is like fine wine it only gets better with age and you two certainly prove that!!!

Great reaction! This concert took place nearly 8 years after the concert the PotO was recorded at. GLS is the most reacted to song, in the history of music video reactions. A bit ahead of Jinger Pisces. FYI:There were 82,000+ in the audience that night. As Nightwish is the most reacted to artist or band in the history of music video reactions. It is the 13th of 15 songs that NW performed that night. I would recommend either 'Ever Dream' or 'Storytime'from the same concert for your next Nightwish reaction.
The singer's name is Floor Jansen. She is the 3rd and still current female lead singer of Nightwish (est. 1996) She had been with the band for little over 10 months at the time of this concert on 03 August 2013. She started performing in her first Metal Band, After-Forever at the age of 16. After that band disbanded, she started her own band called Revamp. Which was on hiatus, when she received a call from Nightwish to take over the female lead singing duties mid-tour. The rest is herstory.

I dont know how old these two nice ladies are but I am 69 and every time I hear this song I am brought to tears by how well the bands plays it and how well Miss Floor Jansen sings it. This song wasnt even written for her and she knocks it out of the park. There are a other bands out there similar to Nightwish but only a few can compare.

Ok rockin’ grannies...welcome to the world of reaction channels. I’m one of you....a hippie (a little hippy too) who adores Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Started watching about nine months ago....first to see reactions by youngsters to “my” music....sixties and seventies. Then I discovered, contrary to the belief of so many our age that, Holy Cow, there is REALLY good shit out there from the eighties and beyond, besides Phil Collins, Don Henley, Peter Gabriel etc. i sorta stopped hard rock after Black Sabbath, so I’d never gotten into metal, grunge or what came after. I had never heard of symphonic rock until I was introduced to Nightwish, and then I was ecstatic. Holy crap....this was good! I did a pretty deep dive into the genre, then into grunge; fabulous vocalists, meaningful lyrics, great musicianship. Who knew? 🙄 I see by your posted videos that you are mainly sticking to eighties and later and are doing pretty hard stuff. I will make suggestions in another post. This is too long already, but I just wanted to say there are more of us out here!

young ladies I have been a musician since the late 50's in junior high, I am now 72 and still play music in my church. I found Nightwish about a year ago and I listen to them more than I listen to gospel. They were playing in front of 82,000 at Wacken, way more than any crowd I ever played in front of. I think 28.000 was the biggest crowd and it freaked me out. You were not showing very much emotion during the song, bit maby you are just too cool and seasoned for that , like me. keep on keepen on, love you guys.

the below is a copy of the Gabriel Bardac/Anne reaction I couldnt find that helps reactors navigate the Nightwish journey that I couldnt find. Hopefully you awesome ladies find it useful:
Thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k+ audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw you enjoyed this powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals and charisma of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Thanks for the composition analysis. It helps us fans better understand WHY we follow them. Hoping for more thorough future analysis, you have my subscription. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "
Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs with the current lineup of the band you may like (please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and not as something mandatory):
"Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) @
"Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) @
"Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) @
"Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) @
"Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) @
"Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) @
"Dark Chest Of Wonders" live at Wacken 2013 (metal, the greatest show opener ever) @
"My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) @
"Sleeping Sun" live at Tampere 2015 (ballad) @
"The Islander" live at Tampere 2015 (Marco in charge..) @
"Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) @
"Sahara" live at Tampa 2016 (middle eastern vibe) @
"Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) @
"I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) @
"Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) @
"Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) @
"7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) @
And if you want to hear Floor growling :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 @
Last but not the least - they just released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: @t (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..)
The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. I have nothing against previous singers, but I do not consider myself the most suitable person to give specific recommendations from their repertoires.
** I think it's your place, fans of previous Nightwish eras, to present to the reactors the best recommendations with Tarja Turunen and Anette Olzon, because you know and appreciate them directly. I encourage you to add the best recommendations in the comments. **
That being said, I will add here the message left the other days by an old fan of the band, @Fabrizio Gorla: " To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs. Just be fair and don’t make a comparison if you don’t want an open war in your comment section.
    * The Tarja era *:
The power of Tarja - Nightwish - Wishmaster [Live] - @
The lyrics of this song are a treasure of citations from fantasy books.
The power of Tarja II - Nightwish - End Of All Hope Live at the Summer Breeze festival (2002) - @
A classic revisited - NIGHTWISH - The Phantom Of The Opera (OFFICIAL LIVE) - @
The old school - Nightwish - 01 Dark Chest Of Wonder (Live End Of An Era 2005 HD) - @
The first big one - Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (LIVE) - @
Mesmerizing - Nightwish - The Siren (DVD End Of An Era) HD - @
@DeeDee80: Gabriel, would be good to add in the Tarja list "Pharaoh Sails To Orion" @ . It's one of the best.
    @Fabrizio Gorla: * The Anette era *:
NIGHTWISH: "Scaretale" (OFFICIAL LIVE) - @
Nightwish - Storytime (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) - @
NIGHTWISH - Bye Bye Beautiful (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) - @
NIGHTWISH - Amaranth (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) - @
    * Bonus track *:
Tarja Turunen & Floor Jansen 'Over the hills' MFVF XI Wieze, Belguim 20/10/13 - @ "
You can also react to Floor Jansen "tapping" other musical genres in Beste Zangers 2019 (TV show from Netherlands) here is a playlist made by Floor herself (start listen it in reverse order..): @t
To understand better the context of this show you should visit also Jenniezelf's YT channel (En subtitled materials): @nniezelf
For entire episodes of the show with En translation, you should check Denise Hofs's DM channel: @t
In these pandemic times, Floor Jansen has decided to make covers for us, which you can find on her YT channel @UCxy4Ijz2QKXXJaREs-isxwA - there are already 5 covers there, the first is "Let It Go" from "Frozen" (11 weeks ago, already over 2.076M views), the second - "Alone" from "Heart" , released 9 weeks ago (you nailed that one!..) - 908K and counting. Then 7 weeks ago she dropped the third cover, in Dutch: "Is Dit Nou Later" from Stef Bos - already 243K views. Just before Christmas she made a powerful cover of "Ave Maria" - already 238K views. Four weeks ago she added a remastered / remixed version of the first one, "Let It Go" - already 143K. Then three weeks ago she added to the list a powerful cover of "Adagio" by Lara Fabian (!!!) - 282K views now..
Thank you! Waiting for more Nightwish reactions. All the best from RO. Stay safe.

My mom always said I was born in the wrong era. I am recently 46. It's even more funny when people react to my 11 year old nephew when he says Groovy. Lol. I was introduced to Nightwish music in November and they are officially my favorite band next to the Beatles and Elvis. Floor sings in tones that not only reach your soul, but reach your soul's heart. My 20 year old cries every time she sings. They call it a Floorgasm. I don't believe there is a bad Nightwish song. Have a groovy day Ladies. Carrie, Mendota, Illinois.

Well, this isn't something you see everyday. Glad you enjoy this stuff.
Floor Jansen (the female vocalist) also did, this year, "The Phantom Of The Opera" during a Dutch TV show called "Beste Zangers" (just not with Nightwish). It's really good, and would be fun to see her take on this song (different from Tarja, Nightwish first vocalist)
With Nightwish, she shines in these songs :"song of myself", "storytime", "ever dream", "sleeping sun", "alpenglow", "Romanticide", "greatest show on earth" - that's a long one, and it refers to the spectacle of life on earth, and their masterpiece: "the Poet and the pendulum"

You know, I have huge respect for all 3 lead singers who fronted this band. But Floor is far more than that, she is also a true member of the band in every sense of the word. She's the perfect fit. And as someone once said: she collects singing techniques and styles like other women collect shoes. Classical sacred music? - listen to Shoemaker (and read up on what it's all about, who's the Shoemaker that the band honors, it's worth it, trust me),. Hard energetic rock? - listen to Romanticide or Song of Myself or Storytime. Raw emotions? - The Poet and the Pendulum (here too, read the story of the song otherwise you'll be left in shock and you won't understand why). Growling? - Yours is an Empty Hope. And I could continue the list ad nauseam. And just so you know, the keyboard player, Tuomas is the musical genius behind it all, he writes 95% of their music, lyrics, everything.

Do yourselves a favor and ignore the Tarja bleaters in these comments. She was kicked out of Nightwish 15 years ago and they still haven't moved on and gotten over it. Floor is the complete package and can do all three eras, her own, of course, and the Tarja and Anette material.
You should react to Ghost River live from Wacken 2013. Marco, the bassist, is also the male vocalist, and he rocked that song.
