And the rest, lol. Between 1941 and 1948, there were proposals for a cross London tunnel scheme. The first mention of the word "Crossrail" was in 1974 with the London Rail Study report recommending the building of an East-West tunnel under London linking Paddington and Liverpool Street. There was a proposal in 1989 where there was a branch that would have taken over the Chiltern lines as part of the scheme
I have this on DVD, but I've had no way of watching it for about 5 years now as neither my laptop nor my desktop have an optical drive, this showed up randomly on my home page. A fascinating look into a world I can't possibly remember as I was born in 2003, but can recognise in fragments, having lived in or near London my whole life, and along the Central line itself for 10 of my 21 years.
@@BoingBoomJimmy thanks for the comment. I found this on DVD in charity shop along with a couple of other train dvds. Felt it was a worthwhile upload for its historic value.
@@HarryThomasGrievesNewacc thanks for the heads up, it did have a copyright issue prior to posting, which has since been clipped out. It was a Thames TV advert at the end of the doc.
@@HarryThomasGrievesNewacc No strike, when you upload, TH-cam will notify you of any copyright issues, they give you the option to to appeal or trim out said sections. I trimmed the section out and therefore no need for a strike
@@Jauntyenvelope5 Oh that's good. I got down for it once; I reported a copyrighted Supernanny video that someone had infringed and then it backfired. I lost all my subscribers and had to create a new one which I managed to retrieve some of my subscribers; I'm a rail enthusiast just like you are.
I live in Ongar and from here wish they would open the central line back up
Mental that Crossrail has been in planning for so long! They already planned it by 1992!
It was only as John Major wanted to franchise off BR network southeast didn't go ahead

“A brief flirtation with civilisation at Coopersale.” That’s a very good description of the Ongar branch!

Great video mate; used to have this on video when I was little but except for the fact there's music 🎶 in it which you should've cut out or otherwise there's a chance the video can still get taken down. Just be careful you don't get down for copyright ©️. Not being rude; just trying to help look out for you alright.
