  • Today I'll show how easy it is to remove the door panels on 1984-1988 Toyota Trucks and 84-89 4Runners. These back of these door cards are made of cardboard, and it gets brittle with age and moisture. Using the right tools for the job can help prevent damage to these old panels.

    PERFECT TIMING for this video! I'll be doing this on my vent window door swap this weekend. Thanks!
    I'm guessing those are Western Wheels on the 87.

    Thank you very for all the info on this video.
    Question, what seats would be a bolt on upgrade to a 1986 xtra cab long bed?
    Restoring the truck and looking for what will fit.
    Thank you.

      Aside from seats from another truck from the same generation, there are no seats that I'm aware of that would be a direct bolt in. I've seen mustang buckets, celica buckets, tercel buckets in these trucks and they all needed to be modified because only one or two of the holes lined up. Even if you go from bench to OEM buckets of the same generation truck, I believe the floor will still need to be modified to accept the inside rails of the bucket seats.

      This was an Ohio truck so it wasn’t exposed to the harsh sun that the southern trucks get. That helps to preserve the interiors. Instead our frames, beds and cabs rust through from the road salt in winters.

      @@6thGearGarage There is No way in the World thats Stock Interior! Sorry No Way..
      My Truck doesn't have all that rust Like ASSume it Might.
      So I should have Like New Door Panels also Then.
      Some upholstery did them and you all dont want to tell us the Color.. Its All good No Worry..

      John M The interior is original as far as I know. These trucks rust so fast here that they can look horrible outside and nice inside. Maybe the previous owner refinished the door panels, but I have collected a few nice sets of door panels from rusted out cabs over the years.

    Can you tell us more about that gauge cluster on the dash? I need to do something about my gauges. Been thinking about that very location. Thanks.

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a factory option called Inclinometer. has forward and sideways tilt gauges and also an altimeter gauge. You can find them used on ebay, but they're pretty expensive.

    Question. Got a 90 4Runner with power non vent windows and I’m wondering if i can keep the electric motor equipped when I swap to the vent windows?

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1990_4Runner the vent Window doors use their own regulator. Most of them are manual. Power was a rare option but I don't know how the part number for the power regulator. I've never tried takimg a motor and attaching it to a manual regulator, not sure it can be done.

    Helpful - I am removing my rear door panel because the locking mechanism is not working. The button will not stay down even after I close the door and push it down from the front door. Do you have any advice of what to look for?

    Do you have a ebay store? I am looking for a passenger brown ac vent. Great videos they have helped me alot thank you

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do, but I don't have any vents. They're hard to come by because they get so brittle that they crack easily. The passenger one is always the worst when it comes to breaking.

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh when you're shopping around, note that there are 2 different designs of passenger vent, depending on your dash. I believe 84--85 vents are different than 86-88 on the right edge. The 86+ are recessed in the dash while the 84-85 are flush on the right edge.

      You can but, why?

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it won't cause an issue. Just mark the position so if you re-install it it won't be 90° or 180° off and cause vibrations.

      I think they may have been custom because they didn’t fit well, just real loose inside the plastic cover.

    i have a 1985 toyota pickup, with the vent window. i’m looking to get new door panels that wrap around the top by the window. have any idea where i could find some new ones?

    • @6thGearGarage
      @6thGearGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On these panels, the only difference is that the rubber trim strip that attaches to the top of the door panels goes all the way across for non-vent windows and uses a shorter trim strip for models with vent windows. The panel itself would work on either type of window setup.
