Sadly extinction events tend to do this. They favor smaller and less specialized species.

No, not evolutions but primal forms, their original form.
@@silencedowell1722 I wouldn't call them original
Damn, that prehistoric rhino and elephant were real Titans of land
Very nicely done video. Excellent graphics. Thanks for including the time-lines. It’s really amazing how long some species have existed with relatively few changes other than size and weight.
When you realize some of the greatest predators of today would have been clapped in that time.
Iam thinking , 'when did i comment this '🤔😅'
@GrubDaddy I think he’s talking about if the present day versions went up against the extinct versions unchanged
bigger doesn't mean better
WE are the greatest predator of today and all time... unless those UFOs are real, and then, we are toast.
Actually, some of them lived then. Alongside the giant Bears, American Lion, and Smilodon, lived the Grey Wolf, Grizzly Bear, and Cougar. Also, Jaguars were already extant. Tigers and modern style Lions already lived in their historical ranges. Tigris Soloensis, was a gigantic Tiger race variant like the other surviving Ice Age giant, the Amur Tiger. The Barbary Lion was the Lion equivalent of the Amur Tiger, an Ice Age giant surviving to the modern age. Extinct in the wild now, but apparently all the really big Zoo Lions are mostly descended from it, with their huge dark manes, and 500+ lbs body weight.
It's a pretty amazing coincidence that even though most of the largest animals are now extinct, we're alive at the same time as the largest animal ever to live.

The earth had way more oxygen back then, especially before the meteor impact that killed the dinosaurs. This is why animals were so much bigger.
Size of vertebrate is determined by natural selection, not the level of oxygen, most of the extinct animals you see are after the extinction of Dinosaurs,Cenozoic era.Sometimes smaller size means higher chance of survival.
The flood mate.
God bless
@@robertmyatt2755 the flood didn’t happen
the carboniferous had alot more oxygen, yet the only giant organisms were the arthropods, with the biggest (Arthropleura) going at 10 feet, the level of oxygen dropped after that and yet dinosaurs and other prehistoric organisms grew much larger
This is complete nonsense. There is even more oxygen now than before. Dinosaurs were huge because of their lungs, which worked differently, and because of them, they had more endurance to run. And today's birds also have the same ones, in order to fly for a long time. But with such lungs, you can die from volcanic waste, which is quite pungent, because it is smoke. Therefore, there is a theory that the Dinosaurs died precisely because of the eruption of a giant volcano, from which all the smoke went all over the planet.
The size of that Titanoboa was terrifying. The two rivals for snake king nowadays, the Reticulated Python and the Green Anaconda both look like pipsqueaks next to it.
The size was obviously exaggerated in the video
So basically everything in the past was a straight up freakin' monster.
Except the food which grew up to our needs and domesticated animals which we breeded to our needs for more efficiency

it is incredible just to see the sheer size of animals in the past
What made them so big?
@@erictyson5947 Growing big means you don't have to worry as much about predators if you are prey, and you can catch bigger prey if you are predator. Given enough resources some bigger species will always evolve. They are usually the first ones to die out when sh*t happens and resources get scarce.
@@erictyson5947 I thought it had something to do with there being more oxygen than there is today, which is why animal's are smaller.

Than it got me thinking. A lot of modern animals had HUGE ancestors.
What about human? Could giants of legends be true?
Probably not... Because i think the modern animals became smaller cause evolution saw that theres no need of such a size today... And humans appeared on a age this size decreasing has already started and if you recearch the first "humans" was a little more than half of the modern humans size so unlike the others our specie growed.

These are absolutely beautiful creatures. It’s so heartbreaking that any of them are extinct. There should be an ‘extinction date’ on each one of them though to make it a little bit easier.
Most of these are from the Cenozoic Era, the era were living in right now
Paleozoic Era:Permian, Carboniferous, Devonian, Silurian, Ordovician, and Cambrian
Mesozoic Era: Triassic,Jurassic and Cretaceous
Cenozoic Era:Tertiary,Quaternary,Neogene,Paleogene,Paleocene, Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, Pliocene, Pleistocene, and Holocene.
Its not that easy to make exact extinction date for animal that went extinct when humans still lived in caves.
@@januszpolak254 they didn't say a "exact" extinction date
It doesnt seem like humans, factorys, cars or hunters are the reason for the extinction of all these animals, and millions of others we never knows bec we dont had some bones found. Strictly not by a "human made climate change"
Amazing videos. Very interesting!
The sad thing is that the white rhino is already extinct also.

When I see those extinct animals, I feel like they are extinct for the purpose humans can live on Earth.
The cycles of death and rebirth happen frequently on this planet, with the largest and most specialized dying out whenever there's a climate change event.
What I feel from watching this is that we're next on the chopping block. Unlike previous times where nature did the damage, we'll be gone by our own hands.

Make a canidae list
You made a cat one, and a wolf one, but the wolf one was mainly focused on wolves instead of all types of canidae.
It'd be cool to know what was the biggest animal in the dog family.
Epicyon haydeni, a bone-crushing dog from 5 million years ago, was the biggest member of the dog family, at about 170 kg, twice the size of the biggest wolves today. (The dogs seem to be size-limited to today's wolf size since subsequent waves of big cats from different cat subfamilies took over the role of the top dog among carnivorans.)
I love the music in this video and it's very interesting.
I agree, the music is magnificent.
All the extinct species made me sad. It's depressing to think that some little piece of the wonderful variety of nature has disappeared from the world and will never return.

Everything apparently gets smaller and smaller especially with the oxygen levels dropping
Less and less food in the food chain to support big animals like these too
Actually, gigafauna began thanks to high level of carbon dioxide in air. Plants thrived at that time and could grow really large providing a lot of food for herbivores resulting in plenty of food for carnivores.
Most of these have nothing to do with oxygen
@@cosmopoiesecriandomundos7446 Yes it does. There was an abundant amount of oxygen in the past, which basically allowed animals to grow bigger compared to the animals now, as oxygen levels aren't that high anymore compared to the past
