    I’m trying to get my kids interested in investing. Or at least pay attention to what I’m trying to teach them. Your videos hold their attention and even had them nodding their heads in agreement and understanding. You’re getting through to my kids about their finances and investing. This will make a huge long term difference in their lives. I cant thank you enough for that.

    I'm watching 1-3 videos a day (so I don't overload on info all at once), taking notes and making my own spreadsheets with my personal numbers along the way! I actually get excited to watch everyday! You make the stock market easy and clear to understand, and also fun and not intimidating. Its an incredible skill and you're teaching me a language I never thought I'd speak! Everytime I have a question throughout the day, I think to myself, "No worries, I'll go see what my good friend Adrian has to say, I'll be fine!" 😂😂😂🤙

    Hi Adrian, your videos are mostly talking about buying stock, but what about selling?
    For example, when would you recommend we sell stocks included in a TFSA (when they are at their highest peak, or perhaps we should gradually transfer those stocks to safer investments such as bonds or other?). In general, it's hard to find information out there on selling strategies (lots of buying strategies, but at some point, you want to get that cash right?).
    I would also add, about the DIVIDENDS EXPLAINED video: wouldn't you agree that there is a higher risk into using a DRIP instead of cashing out your dividends? By using a DRIP, you are assuming the company will never go away, but also putting a lot of money into it. Just a thought.
    Thanks so much for all the great videos! You have a talent for breaking down complex stuff into simple, awesome job!

    I think we need another in-depth video on dividends: possibly exploring dividend irrelevancy and a case against irrelevancy (stock price doesn't matter only number of shares matter).
    Irrelevancy: When a dividend is paid, the value of your share goes down by the dividend amount. And in a market downturn your stocks will be falling that much further with the payout of dividends; and having it in a DRIP is essentially 1) buying back what you just sold 2) having the dividend stock function as a growth stock. And if you did not cash out your dividends between two lows (@3:35) and instead had your dividends cycling through a DRIP, then you'll also end up with no gain between those times.
    An argument for dividend relevancy would have to be: through DRIP you can buy more shares since the number of shares is what truly matters.
    I like dividend stocks for the convenience of choosing whether I want it to act like a growth stock with the added bonus of buying more shares or use the dividends as income for living or buying other stock especially in a downturn - now that's where dividends in a down market can come in handy.
    Is any of this thought process incorrect, let me know.

    Great video...on the topic of "chasing yields".. what is your view on OARK, TSLY & CLIP?

    • @CanadianTShirt
      @CanadianTShirt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't touch covered call ETFs... yes those 15% dividend yields are tempting but remember, there's no such thing as a free lunch. You're paying very high management fees and yes you're getting great dividends but you have no chance of any capital appreciation. In fact, most of those funds lose value over time... they can be useful for short timespans, especially in a sideways market. But over the long term, I focus on quality companies that pay dividends AND grow over time =)

    • @Jake51500
      @Jake51500 ปีที่แล้ว

      @CanadianTShirt thanks for detailed response...I currently have roughly half of my funds in HYLD & half in VFV...so kind of the best of both worlds in dividends & growth...and all the dividends I continue to reinvest..but am constantly struggling with which direction to fully go in...leaning towards the dividend focus...though the VFV has been performing well since I bought in...

    • @Jake51500
      @Jake51500 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have sold off alot of HYLD and went with TSLY...if I am taking a dividend route with half my money then it is just as well to maximize it...even factoring the 15% withholding tax (some are held in my TFSA), weak exchange rate & higher mgmt fees...TLSY at worst is expected to pay out far better - HYLD was paying out a paltry .12 to .14 a share...I can always reevaluate things periodically ...I also plan to sell off a few disappointing holdings once they finally get back up to what I bought them for...several are some of your favourites - I bought in April and they have dropped quite a bit...no panic by any means but they are essentially dead weight to me.

    What is your opinion on buying options in Canada? How would one go about buying an option on a broker account like QuestTrade?

    • @CanadianTShirt
      @CanadianTShirt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally don't invest in options and I don't recommend it for beginners. It is far more complicated and risky than buying and holding stocks and ETFs. If you don't know what you are doing, it is MUCH easier to lose money so don't blindly jump into it. Maybe in the future, I might play around with options but for now, I only want to make videos on things which I have extensive, personal experience with. I hope that helps! =)

    Just curious why you suggest to first invest in your TFSA before the RRSP? If you still have RRSP room would it make sense to invest there to take advantage of the tax break?

    • @CanadianTShirt
      @CanadianTShirt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ideally you want to max out BOTH your TFSA and RRSP but for most people, especially beginners the TFSA is the easier one to start with since it's more flexible and far less complicated. Make sure you check out my RRSP Explained videos (both of them):
      th-cam.com/video/bKMNgnMBSdE/w-d-xo.html
      I got over how the RRSP tax deduction works and why you shouldn't necessarily claim your RRSP deductions right away, especially if you are in a smaller tax bracket. Check it out! =)

      In a non-registered account, ANY form of income is taxed so that includes dividends, DRIPs and capital gains. You will have to pay taxes on this when you file your taxes. But in a tax-sheltered account like the TFSA or RRSP, dividends are tax free! =)
