Healers are such amazing dogs. They are not for the type of person that doesn't believe in training and developing a bond. They require a ton of training and play/exercise to prevent them from getting bored and finding a "job". Keep them busy or they will keep you busy. If you have a strong bond with one, they are so loyal and so loveable.
My 4 red heelers are vicious, snarling guard dogs who herd cattle, on the otherhand my 5 blue heelers are vicious, snarling cattle dogs who pull guard duty. My 9 year old son regularly takes hikes in cougar territory with his entourage of personal bodyguards.
Really? We just got a little red heeler puppy as a companion for our larger Kangal dog. My youngest son wanted a little dog, as our Kangal is about 150 pounds and a bit large for our 12 year old son. However we needed a large livestock guardian dog for protection out here in the hills as we have bears, lions, and coyotes aplenty. I just can't imagine that little mother dog being much of an obstacle for a lion... even doubtful that our kangal would be anything more than a distraction... idk
Best dog I ever had... his mom was a red heeler, dad was a German shepherd. He was black and tan like dad, but with the bright gold eyes and boundless energy of mom. About 90 pounds. Had to work extra hard socializing, with both humans and other animals, because he was ultra-alpha. But he was a super special dog. Intelligence over the top. Athleticism and strength the same. Absolutely fearless. And a frisbee superstar! 🤣❤ He was a handful to make right, but from age 2 until his death at 16, he was about as perfect as could be. RIP Cody. ❤
Thanks for sharing. We adopted a 13 month 33% ACD. He is nippy with folks that come around and into our space. We have hired a trainer to help with it. I really hope it is something we can shift.

I particularly remember a picnic at a park, where strangers and children were throwing a tennis ball for him. Till he was about to drop! That day alone made a difference, because he discovered strangers and kids could be fun! ❤
We have a half german shepherd, half red heeler who took disinterst in anyone & everyone except me by 4 mos old and just scared everyone away. My Red Heeler just passed away last night, I cant believe how much i miss her energy and happiness. We spoiled her rotten and yet i feel i still didnt do enough. I hope there is a heaven where i will be able to hug her again.
I dont normally reply to comments but I lost my red heeler 6 months ago at 13 he was my soul dog, spoilt rotten and had the best personality. It does get easier I promise. I thought i would never get another dog let alone to get a heeler again. I just picked up my new boy after months of depression and i am so happy i know my Maxy boy is looking down happy. The mark they leave on your heart lasts forever but they will always live through you❤️

No difference, reds may handle the heat a bit better. Some have said reds are crazier or more aggressive. I have both and a rat terrier, the blue is the boss amongst them. The red is more attentive more energetic and wants to please. The blue is the typical stubborn but is also most protective of my youngest daughter always watching. They are definitely not for everyone, but if they fit your lifestyle their the best just like everyone says.
I have raised 2 cattle doggies, my current pup is 9 months old and is awesome. Not for everyone it's true, they are the Super bike or the 5.0 Mustang of dogs. That's a good way to think about it.
The differences are more about the individual dogs. They had a bad reputation in the past for nipping, but that just reflected the number of working rural dogs - most of them are pets these days, and they are great dogs. Keep them with a firm hand, don’t overfeed and be prepared for the dog to follow you literally everywhere.
Mine has a black mask, but is mostly blue, and with red “socks”. She’s 3 months old, smart as a whip, very challenging, but it gets easier each day as a fine tune my approach. We go to the forest trails quite often and my apartment is loaded with toys. I also bring her on errands on the bus and train. She’s a city dog who’s adapting quite well to the stimulation. She was the most shy of her litter but is gaining confidence in herself more and more.
I've grown up with Blue heelers and red heelers so I really know a lot about them they're both amazing dogs I have two blues and one red I've had more than just them though
Great video! By the title, I was afraid that you were going to say there was a huge difference between Reds and Blues. Good marketing tactic!!😆😆 I own a female Blue 4 years old. You are absolutely right . As far as breeding, they are exactly the same dogs; just different colors. Interchangeable if you will. Just like you can breed two Black Labs and have puppies in one litter black, chocolate, and yellow. My Bella’s father was Red. Her mother was Blue. Of the six pups in her litter, the 4 males were red like their father. The 2 females were blue like their mother. Just coincidence regarding the sex comparison. Bella got her red father’s body; taller and well muscled.; for which I am grateful. But she is blue as blue can be. My Vet said that she is “the epitome of what a Blue Heeler should look like “. I personally don’t buy into the ideas that the colors are of different temperaments, etc. All dogs have their own temperaments and much of it is in the way they’re raised. An Alpha is always going to rise up in any group. The fact is, all Heelers are Alphas!!😂 Everything is theirs! My wife and I have trouble kissing because Bella tries to protect us from each other!😆 I’ve had dogs all my life, and there is nothing like a Cattle Dog in my view! This is my second Cattle Dog. My first was a Black and Tan often called Kelpies, but this time I wanted a Blue Heeler. Sure they’re a little stubborn, but he’ll, so am I !!😆 Makes for some interesting exchanges between Bella and I !! Two things that many may not be aware of: Red or Blue, the 100 percent mark of a true Heeler is that little white star on the top of the head . My breeder is a dear friend of mine. He has correctly said that if that star isn’t there, you’re not buying a full blooded Heeler regardless of what a seller tries to tell you! My red is a saint. He’s a service dog that knows to come sit on my feet if he deals like I’m going through something… my previous dog was a blue Heeler and did the same. Great dogs all around, I will refute this video and say that Heeler’s in general are100% not moderate shedders. But with regular brushes it’s not too much to handle. They do need a job and lots of room to run around. Heeler’s are awesome… if you have the patience and time to train them
I'm An Australian that has owned 3 cattle dogs. As others have said, the only difference is the colour. Assuming you get your pup at 6 to 8 weeks you won't even know what colour the dog will turn out. They are all white to begin with. Oh, so many dogs in this video were bitzas or cattle dog crosses it wasn't funny.

Our Australian Cattle Dog is red and blue. Te Mana Wahine. When she is in Protective mode her fur sticks up like a hyena. She is taller then all the other pups from her mother and father and her parents. She is the only one from 7 litters born with her colouring. Very protective of her home and family but if we are accepting of people around us, so is she. She will not accept food from strangers. Or even a pat if we are not at home. 3 years old and we are looking for the right Dog to cross over her. She has not found one she likes. I think they have to smell right?
I have a tricolor. He is laid-back two years old Very social dog...loves people and other dogs Only barks when she sees a dog on a leash.. easy to train and obedient...good on leash...great dog
These dogs are unbelievably tough! I had a guy here making estimates. I told him that my son’s 100 pound dog was no threat, but he needed to worry about the one upstairs! As he listened, he asked her breed. I told him and that she sounded familiar to him. Turns out he has one Heeler and two Pit Bulls. His response was “The Heeler can kick both of their asses!”😆😆Nuff said!😆
My blue female is a sweet heart and just wants cuddles and love. Loves people. My red female is off her nut sometimes. Any small sound like a bell or car. TRIGGERED. And is very protective when it comes to new people
We were given a red Heeler at the end of February. They are very loving and sting-willed. If you can't handle an active puppy or don't have a LOT of space, you may be disappointed.. but if you have time and space, you cannot find a better companion.
I really like Dogs Now videos on the Blue Heeler, but I have two problems. One concerns the origins of the breed (there isn't a single human on this entire planet who can tell you what dog went into this breed other than Dingo, the one provable fact) and the other is the display of the occasional docked Bluey. 3:05 - a show quality dog utterly ruined by docking. Such a mutilated dog not just won't make it into the show it'll probably get you arrested. It's illegal in Australia and you could actually do time if you get caught. I'd like to see a video done on the subject. Docking a Blue Heeler doesn't somehow turn it into a Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog which is a different breed altogether. It's a practice which has to stop. The rationale behind it is absolute rubbish. Otherwise these are far and away the best Cattle Dog videos I've watched.

I have a Red named Ruby. Best dog on the planet. Super loyal. Best watchdog ever. Never backs down. Has nipped everyone I know. Dont turn your back to her. No fast movements, especially around the house. I like a dog with an edge❤❤❤❤
I don't agree with the differences you're talking about ... have had both red and blue heelers . they're both the smartest dog I've ever seen in my life because they're half dingo and dingoes are the smartest species on Earth other than humans from what I've read .I have to say that the red Heelers are much more active ,more crazy in the head .... little more stubborn and definitely a lot more crazy .. I believe it's to do with the fact that they have more dingo in them than the Blues.. Either way they're great dogs ... although they're not technically dogs 100% .. definitely the smartest.. they are very loving to their owner .. to the point of being codependent in my opinion . courageous and gamey little f****** . mine was found in living in the mountains as a feral dog . he was attacked by Wolves or coyotes and got away . ended up in the dog pound getting beat up by pit bulls .. until the day he completely snapped which is what got him put on death row when I found him .. I nearly had to fight everyone at the animal control place to get him. he was attacking all the dogs and the people . he bit me for three months when I first got him . but now he's socialized and he loves humans he just hates pitbulls and coyotes . and he will not miss any opportunity whatsoever to attack a large dog and or any dog that shows him aggression . he doesn't give a f*** it with the tiger or a cougar he will attack it if it shows him aggression
I had a male red heeler years ago. He was uncut, and he was up for a fight with any dog that showed any aggression at al, and particularly other male dogs. Great dog, but what a handful at times. Funny thing - he was an absolutely lovely friendly affectionate dog all the rest of the time. That dog - Loss was his name had some incredible adventures. I miss him, but love my female red who is just friendly with everyone and all dogs.
I have both a blue heeler and a Smithfield red heeler with the stumpy tail. The red is the single laziest dog I’ve ever met in my entire life. She only gets up when the blue heeler gets her excited. The blue heeler I have is also pretty lazy and loves sleeping but he’s more inclined to have bursts of energy and be playful or pick up a ball and bring it to you. Where as the red will wait for it to roll to her then never give it up. I’m not sure how we did it but we somehow got the most calm and docile cattle dogs ever😂
Wow.....as the owner of two cattle dogs I can tell you this breed is NOT for everyone and I don’t even know if I’d say they are a good family dog. Mine are very protective and very wary of strangers which can make it difficult if you have kids running in and out of the house. Although every dog, regardless of breed, has his own personality, this breed tends to be independent thinkers, stubborn, tough and rugged.
Our red Heeler girl is about one, and she’s all of those things and then some. She’s seriously the best dog we could’ve ever hoped to bring into our family. She would protect our kids with her life, and with that we take the extra safety precautions with her to avoid any accidents. When the kids have friends over she’s attached to an adult on a 4ft leash. She whines and quivers in excitement because she wants to control the herd of kids, but we are more than willing to put up with it and work with her. She’s the best fetch dog I’ve ever seen, she loves the cats and respects their space, she cuddles all the time if she’s not at our feet with a toy. She lets us know every time the wind blows or when our Amazon packages arrive. And although she’s tiny, her bark is deep enough to scare away any would be prowlers. I love Heelers, and I’m glad I heeded the advice I got on videos like this when she was still tiny!!! ❤️
After owning blue heelers here in Australia for many years I finally got a red heeler and I can confirm that my red girl is definitely much more active and just a tad more aggressive and protective.
I agree that the RED Heeler is a little more aggressive then the Blue. My son & his wife have the Blue & we have the Red and he is a little more aggressive but not much. Both great dogs!!
I have a 10 week Red Texas Heeler. She's black, even her face, with a white stripe down her belly. She's very smart, but yes, you gotta tire them out. It's like the saying for my Bluetick Coonhound, a tired Coonhound is a happy Coonhound. Goes for most dogs.

My blue healer is a mix of 4 breeds. His head and shoulders and body look like a blue healer with very black hair, but his paws and chests are that of a red heeler.
Question. Not long ago a passing reduced my household from two dogs to one. So, after a few weeks, I someone I knew had a year old chihuahua that needed a home. Both dogs were the same age, and both were spayed. But my blue heeler immediately pounced on the chihuahua, like she was prey. I had to give her back for her safety. Otherwise, she's a jewel who prefers to sleep with the cat on the couch than me at night. Should I try to find/rescue another dog, or should I give up not worry about a friend for her?
They are so protective mine picks and chooses scared of my cats , will attack most other dogs but is usually good with small ones , but done the same thing once ..and it was because it was also same gender . Maybe if they were both female it was more of a territory thing .

I have a 8 month old red cattle dog I have a very big back yard and we take him for walks most days he's very active gets bored easily he digs up the yard but he' hasn't been aggressive he will jump up to me while I'm outside to tell me to throw the ball 🏀 he has grabbed my arm but hasn't bit me I love him so 😍😍😍
My red heeler is a Velcro dog. Follows us everywhere, has to sleep with us under the covers, etc. is lazy as hell most days. Very, very chill dog. But man does she HATE other dogs. Loves cats
I was thinking of adopting one from the shelter as an adult. I don’t want puppies cause I don’t have time for that. I work 4x10 with 3 days off. My yard is average and I do like to do hikes and plan on taking him on road trips. I don’t have kids but I do have a cat. So the main question is does their energy level slow down as they get older?
Trained and socialized early on is mentioned several times by the narrator. Do not disregard this, these dogs are not labradoodles or some such thing like that they are part dingo and they look for direction and behavioral guidance from their mother very early. there is a three to five month age window where you have to stop the nipping. If you don't do this you may sentence your dog to a lifetime of boomeranging in shelters because they will not be socialized to humans. You need to do this by being a strong alpha trainer, of course all dogs are a little bit different, and it is difficult to be a alpha to a puppy. However when that little puppy sinks those needle teeth into your hand you damn well better do something meaningful immediately. You may be saving this puppy's life.

My red was crazy. She isn't pure red, she is supposedly half red half cream kelpie. But she would go onto the house roof, would bark at people from the roof, and would jump from the roof into the front yard to break out. She had insane muscles when younger, had literal chest definition haha. She even jumped a fence taller than me (around 6ft 5 fence), which I saw her do one morning, just woke up and looked outside, saw her hanging by her chin / head off the fence. So she would leverage herself over by using her head. She broke out daily, had lots of neighbours complains of a dog running around in a jacket, even had reports of people seeing her 1-2 suburbs away, and someone claimed they saw her cross a major road, sitting on side of road waiting for the cars to pass. But she would always return home before we got back from work. She also had a strange habit of walking along this tall wall in the front yard, like a cat. Had a tradie come over and when I answered the door he mentioned he saw this 'random dog' walking on some wall, I look out and see it's her who broke out again. Basically she was crazy the first 4-5 years of her life. Obviously she wanted to break out and walk herself, but we walked her daily (and even took her on drives, to make her chase the car on dirt tracks, but that likely still wasn't enough). She is much calmer now, she is 13.
Red ones have more dingo (wild dog) than blue, hence more aggressive but still great dogs if training is done. Always keep them social with people and animals and you will be happy, keeping them alone they will be aggressive. I have a blue just turned 12 months old and has the most relaxed attitude towards everything. Not nippy or aggressive.

We had one (from OZ) and took it to The Netherlands for 3 years' work. She was very well behaved, except did get a bit aggressive when left alone for too long. Otherwise, the best dog I've ever had. SMART.
I have a pound rescued red after being owned by two blues and my red girl is just a typical nutty red head but like my first red never nippy or ever shown aggression to anyone, but very bloody nutty. Having been and currently owned by wild born Dingoes also I can testify to the fact Dingoes are not aggressive by nature with less than ten serious attacks since records have been kept. All caused by people trying to approach or feed wild Dingoes around human activity.
My Belgian mix whole back hair and shoulders hair spread crazy like a wild dog breed, it spends all the way down her spine, should I test my pup and she if she’s legal? I just don’t want to lose her, my pup almost reminds me to a coyote mix, but she doesn’t actually a coyote, but rather a normal dog

I've had (or 'been owned') by three. Two blues and a red. While they're all protective, I'd say the Blue protects the property, while the Red protects the owner. If you see a Blue in the back of a truck, just DON'T lean against the truck. 😅😂🤣🤪
Dogs Now, you are 100% WRONG!!!! For a start, the correct name of the breed is Queensland Heeler, blue or red tick. There is definitely a difference between blue and red, it is a gene difference. Understand where the breed comes from, a cross between the Halls Heeler and the Timmins Biter. The Timmins had a strong Dingo strain in it. The blues have a stronger Halls heeler strain, the reds have a stronger Timmins strain, and subsequent stronger dingo gene. Get your facts correct
Heelers are high and low dogs. They can run for hours but also lay around for hours lol also if you socialize them young they're great with peoplw.. its when farm raised and left alone more or dependant on themselves that they become anti social and that's because they're meant to be leaders to a herd. In a family though, they find their place and own it like a boss. My dog knows he's below me but right there with my kids... on long walks I can send my kids 100ft ahead of me but they can not get any further without our heeler bringing them back and him running back to me to make sure he's doing a good job. Minimal training and a family, these dogs are great. If you need more from them they'll give you it at 100% effort nmw it is. One man to s whole family... I recommend this dog
If you have never had a dog do not start with a healer.they just don't stop. I mean they don't stop. You won't get a moment of rest till they're 3 year's old. the reason they're called a healer is they will nip your hael every step you make. I'm not kidding. Other than that and chewing every thing you've got. They're great. Ha ha ha. Do not take this warning lightly!

Old Australian rule of thumb was red heelers were for arid zones as their paw pads were tougher and blue for your greener pastures.

Also most people dont train their dogs properly. You can get rid of that habbit pretty early as a pupp.
Mine has a black mask, but is mostly blue, and with red “socks”. She’s 3 months old, smart as a whip, very challenging, but it gets easier each day as a fine tune my approach. We go to the forest trails quite often and my apartment is loaded with toys. I also bring her on errands on the bus and train. She’s a city dog who’s adapting quite well to the stimulation. She was the most shy of her litter but is gaining confidence in herself more and more.

Great video! By the title, I was afraid that you were going to say there was a huge difference between Reds and Blues. Good marketing tactic!!😆😆 I own a female Blue 4 years old. You are absolutely right . As far as breeding, they are exactly the same dogs; just different colors. Interchangeable if you will. Just like you can breed two Black Labs and have puppies in one litter black, chocolate, and yellow. My Bella’s father was Red. Her mother was Blue. Of the six pups in her litter, the 4 males were red like their father. The 2 females were blue like their mother. Just coincidence regarding the sex comparison. Bella got her red father’s body; taller and well muscled.; for which I am grateful. But she is blue as blue can be. My Vet said that she is “the epitome of what a Blue Heeler should look like “. I personally don’t buy into the ideas that the colors are of different temperaments, etc.
All dogs have their own temperaments and much of it is in the way they’re raised. An Alpha is always going to rise up in any group. The fact is, all Heelers are Alphas!!😂 Everything is theirs! My wife and I have trouble kissing because Bella tries to protect us from each other!😆 I’ve had dogs all my life, and there is nothing like a Cattle Dog in my view! This is my second Cattle Dog. My first was a Black and Tan often called Kelpies, but this time I wanted a Blue Heeler. Sure they’re a little stubborn, but he’ll, so am I !!😆 Makes for some interesting exchanges between Bella and I !! Two things that many may not be aware of: Red or Blue, the 100 percent mark of a true Heeler is that little white star on the top of the head . My breeder is a dear friend of mine. He has correctly said that if that star isn’t there, you’re not buying a full blooded Heeler regardless of what a seller tries to tell you! My red is a saint. He’s a service dog that knows to come sit on my feet if he deals like I’m going through something… my previous dog was a blue Heeler and did the same. Great dogs all around, I will refute this video and say that Heeler’s in general are100% not moderate shedders. But with regular brushes it’s not too much to handle. They do need a job and lots of room to run around. Heeler’s are awesome… if you have the patience and time to train them

Heelers only shed twice a year - six months over the autumn/winter, and six months over spring/summer. 🙂
I'm An Australian that has owned 3 cattle dogs. As others have said, the only difference is the colour. Assuming you get your pup at 6 to 8 weeks you won't even know what colour the dog will turn out. They are all white to begin with. Oh, so many dogs in this video were bitzas or cattle dog crosses it wasn't funny.

Three of my last four have been half heeler. Rottweiler/heeler, basset hound/heeler, and husky/heeler. All have been fantastic. They mix well.
Our Australian Cattle Dog is red and blue. Te Mana Wahine. When she is in Protective mode her fur sticks up like a hyena.
She is taller then all the other pups from her mother and father and her parents.
She is the only one from 7 litters born with her colouring.
Very protective of her home and family but if we are accepting of people around us, so is she.
She will not accept food from strangers. Or even a pat if we are not at home.
3 years old and we are looking for the right Dog to cross over her. She has not found one she likes.

These dogs are unbelievably tough! I had a guy here making estimates. I told him that my son’s 100 pound dog was no threat, but he needed to worry about the one upstairs! As he listened, he asked her breed. I told him and that she sounded familiar to him. Turns out he has one Heeler and two Pit Bulls. His response was “The Heeler can kick both of their asses!”😆😆Nuff said!😆

We were given a red Heeler at the end of February. They are very loving and sting-willed. If you can't handle an active puppy or don't have a LOT of space, you may be disappointed.. but if you have time and space, you cannot find a better companion.

I really like Dogs Now videos on the Blue Heeler, but I have two problems. One concerns the origins of the breed (there isn't a single human on this entire planet who can tell you what dog went into this breed other than Dingo, the one provable fact) and the other is the display of the occasional docked Bluey. 3:05 - a show quality dog utterly ruined by docking. Such a mutilated dog not just won't make it into the show it'll probably get you arrested. It's illegal in Australia and you could actually do time if you get caught. I'd like to see a video done on the subject. Docking a Blue Heeler doesn't somehow turn it into a Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog which is a different breed altogether. It's a practice which has to stop. The rationale behind it is absolute rubbish.
Otherwise these are far and away the best Cattle Dog videos I've watched.

I don't agree with the differences you're talking about ... have had both red and blue heelers . they're both the smartest dog I've ever seen in my life because they're half dingo and dingoes are the smartest species on Earth other than humans from what I've read .I have to say that the red Heelers are much more active ,more crazy in the head .... little more stubborn and definitely a lot more crazy .. I believe it's to do with the fact that they have more dingo in them than the Blues.. Either way they're great dogs ... although they're not technically dogs 100% .. definitely the smartest.. they are very loving to their owner .. to the point of being codependent in my opinion . courageous and gamey little f****** . mine was found in living in the mountains as a feral dog . he was attacked by Wolves or coyotes and got away . ended up in the dog pound getting beat up by pit bulls .. until the day he completely snapped which is what got him put on death row when I found him .. I nearly had to fight everyone at the animal control place to get him. he was attacking all the dogs and the people . he bit me for three months when I first got him . but now he's socialized and he loves humans he just hates pitbulls and coyotes . and he will not miss any opportunity whatsoever to attack a large dog and or any dog that shows him aggression . he doesn't give a f*** it with the tiger or a cougar he will attack it if it shows him aggression

I had a male red heeler years ago. He was uncut, and he was up for a fight with any dog that showed any aggression at al, and particularly other male dogs. Great dog, but what a handful at times. Funny thing - he was an absolutely lovely friendly affectionate dog all the rest of the time. That dog - Loss was his name had some incredible adventures. I miss him, but love my female red who is just friendly with everyone and all dogs.

I have both a blue heeler and a Smithfield red heeler with the stumpy tail. The red is the single laziest dog I’ve ever met in my entire life. She only gets up when the blue heeler gets her excited. The blue heeler I have is also pretty lazy and loves sleeping but he’s more inclined to have bursts of energy and be playful or pick up a ball and bring it to you. Where as the red will wait for it to roll to her then never give it up. I’m not sure how we did it but we somehow got the most calm and docile cattle dogs ever😂

Wow.....as the owner of two cattle dogs I can tell you this breed is NOT for everyone and I don’t even know if I’d say they are a good family dog. Mine are very protective and very wary of strangers which can make it difficult if you have kids running in and out of the house. Although every dog, regardless of breed, has his own personality, this breed tends to be independent thinkers, stubborn, tough and rugged.

Our red Heeler girl is about one, and she’s all of those things and then some. She’s seriously the best dog we could’ve ever hoped to bring into our family. She would protect our kids with her life, and with that we take the extra safety precautions with her to avoid any accidents. When the kids have friends over she’s attached to an adult on a 4ft leash. She whines and quivers in excitement because she wants to control the herd of kids, but we are more than willing to put up with it and work with her. She’s the best fetch dog I’ve ever seen, she loves the cats and respects their space, she cuddles all the time if she’s not at our feet with a toy. She lets us know every time the wind blows or when our Amazon packages arrive. And although she’s tiny, her bark is deep enough to scare away any would be prowlers. I love Heelers, and I’m glad I heeded the advice I got on videos like this when she was still tiny!!! ❤️
After owning blue heelers here in Australia for many years I finally got a red heeler and I can confirm that my red girl is definitely much more active and just a tad more aggressive and protective.
I agree that the RED Heeler is a little more aggressive then the Blue. My son & his wife have the Blue & we have the Red and he is a little more aggressive but not much. Both great dogs!!

I have a 10 week Red Texas Heeler. She's black, even her face, with a white stripe down her belly. She's very smart, but yes, you gotta tire them out. It's like the saying for my Bluetick Coonhound, a tired Coonhound is a happy Coonhound. Goes for most dogs.

Question. Not long ago a passing reduced my household from two dogs to one. So, after a few weeks, I someone I knew had a year old chihuahua that needed a home. Both dogs were the same age, and both were spayed. But my blue heeler immediately pounced on the chihuahua, like she was prey. I had to give her back for her safety. Otherwise, she's a jewel who prefers to sleep with the cat on the couch than me at night. Should I try to find/rescue another dog, or should I give up not worry about a friend for her?
They are so protective mine picks and chooses scared of my cats , will attack most other dogs but is usually good with small ones , but done the same thing once ..and it was because it was also same gender . Maybe if they were both female it was more of a territory thing .

I was thinking of adopting one from the shelter as an adult. I don’t want puppies cause I don’t have time for that. I work 4x10 with 3 days off. My yard is average and I do like to do hikes and plan on taking him on road trips. I don’t have kids but I do have a cat. So the main question is does their energy level slow down as they get older?

Trained and socialized early on is mentioned several times by the narrator. Do not disregard this, these dogs are not labradoodles or some such thing like that they are part dingo and they look for direction and behavioral guidance from their mother very early. there is a three to five month age window where you have to stop the nipping. If you don't do this you may sentence your dog to a lifetime of boomeranging in shelters because they will not be socialized to humans. You need to do this by being a strong alpha trainer, of course all dogs are a little bit different, and it is difficult to be a alpha to a puppy. However when that little puppy sinks those needle teeth into your hand you damn well better do something meaningful immediately. You may be saving this puppy's life.

My red was crazy. She isn't pure red, she is supposedly half red half cream kelpie. But she would go onto the house roof, would bark at people from the roof, and would jump from the roof into the front yard to break out. She had insane muscles when younger, had literal chest definition haha. She even jumped a fence taller than me (around 6ft 5 fence), which I saw her do one morning, just woke up and looked outside, saw her hanging by her chin / head off the fence. So she would leverage herself over by using her head. She broke out daily, had lots of neighbours complains of a dog running around in a jacket, even had reports of people seeing her 1-2 suburbs away, and someone claimed they saw her cross a major road, sitting on side of road waiting for the cars to pass. But she would always return home before we got back from work. She also had a strange habit of walking along this tall wall in the front yard, like a cat. Had a tradie come over and when I answered the door he mentioned he saw this 'random dog' walking on some wall, I look out and see it's her who broke out again. Basically she was crazy the first 4-5 years of her life. Obviously she wanted to break out and walk herself, but we walked her daily (and even took her on drives, to make her chase the car on dirt tracks, but that likely still wasn't enough). She is much calmer now, she is 13.

Red ones have more dingo (wild dog) than blue, hence more aggressive but still great dogs if training is done. Always keep them social with people and animals and you will be happy, keeping them alone they will be aggressive. I have a blue just turned 12 months old and has the most relaxed attitude towards everything. Not nippy or aggressive.

We had one (from OZ) and took it to The Netherlands for 3 years' work. She was very well behaved, except did get a bit aggressive when left alone for too long. Otherwise, the best dog I've ever had. SMART.
I have a pound rescued red after being owned by two blues and my red girl is just a typical nutty red head but like my first red never nippy or ever shown aggression to anyone, but very bloody nutty. Having been and currently owned by wild born Dingoes also I can testify to the fact Dingoes are not aggressive by nature with less than ten serious attacks since records have been kept. All caused by people trying to approach or feed wild Dingoes around human activity.
My Belgian mix whole back hair and shoulders hair spread crazy like a wild dog breed, it spends all the way down her spine, should I test my pup and she if she’s legal? I just don’t want to lose her, my pup almost reminds me to a coyote mix, but she doesn’t actually a coyote, but rather a normal dog

While they're all protective, I'd say the Blue protects the property, while the Red protects the owner.

Dogs Now, you are 100% WRONG!!!! For a start, the correct name of the breed is Queensland Heeler, blue or red tick. There is definitely a difference between blue and red, it is a gene difference. Understand where the breed comes from, a cross between the Halls Heeler and the Timmins Biter. The Timmins had a strong Dingo strain in it. The blues have a stronger Halls heeler strain, the reds have a stronger Timmins strain, and subsequent stronger dingo gene. Get your facts correct

Heelers are high and low dogs. They can run for hours but also lay around for hours lol also if you socialize them young they're great with peoplw.. its when farm raised and left alone more or dependant on themselves that they become anti social and that's because they're meant to be leaders to a herd. In a family though, they find their place and own it like a boss. My dog knows he's below me but right there with my kids... on long walks I can send my kids 100ft ahead of me but they can not get any further without our heeler bringing them back and him running back to me to make sure he's doing a good job. Minimal training and a family, these dogs are great. If you need more from them they'll give you it at 100% effort nmw it is. One man to s whole family... I recommend this dog
