I m a redheeler Father, my Shakty she is awesome. Teach them freesbe if you dont have cattle around it helps a lot with the cattle instinct nipping and exercise them, always remenber, a tired heeler its a happy heeler! Cheers!
Just got two labraheelers (lab and red heeler mix). They are brothers and were rescued from a bad situation so we adopted them. They wake me up at 4:45 every morning lol. They are fantastic with my 3 kids and definitely have heeler tendencies. This video fits both my dogs to a tee.
I have a labraheeler we got him at 8 weeks from a shelter, he nipped at our heels like crazy until he was 5 months old then he learned not to, he's so beautiful, he's very loving, loyal, caring he is super protective especially of my children! If he even senses tension he gets in front of my kids and growls and barks at whoever is talking to them. He's the sweetest and we adore him!
I love my red heeler, her name is Jolene. And I’m glad that I didn’t make her be around other people. If you want a dog that will save your life and protect you till death get a heeler. She’s a big baby towards me but to any random person, a problem and I love that. I do not want her to think that everyone is her friend. And she gets that quickly. She watches my every move, and knows when danger is there.
My little 30 lb red heeler is a powerhouse! She hates everyone and other animals she does not know. She barks like crazy at anything in her sights(drives me crazy) but she is so loving and silly. I won’t get another one because I can’t really take her places because she is so reactive and disruptive and barks nonstop. She is definitely a dog that is always on, looking, guarding, regulating and protecting her territory. She loves to play frisbee and soccer too.
As they are more or less same all this goes for Blue Heelers as well. The exercise and socializing cannot be stressed enough. Even in rain we are doing a couple mile walks a day. They can go a day or two if its really bad out but you will know they are getting antsy.
I rescued my blue heeler over a year ago. She was just one. Don't know what was going on in her past, but she has always been afraid of thunder and rain. She keeps her eyes on the sky all the time. Sight of a cloud will have her afraid. I live near a military installation, and they are always firing artillery off in the distance, which she confuses for thunder. But a sweeter companion you've never seen! But she's definitely a fair-weather girl!
The correct name for the breed is Queensland Heeler, red or blue tick. No such breed as Australian cattle Dog. The reds have a stronger Timmins Biter gene, the blue has a stronger Halls Heeler gene.
What rubbish. The red and blue is similar to humans with hair colour. Two red parents will tend to produce red offspring, two blue parents, blue offspring but they can also also produce the opposite, red parents -> blue offspring, blue parents -> red offspring. You will get variants in things such as body size due to things such as the genetics in the area where the dog is from but they are the same breed.
We used too let our ACD herd the girls down to the jetty in the morning for school . They would generally need new socks after a week because the dog nipped them to keep the girls moving.
My red heelers never got into nipping but they are just like huskies they mimic ambulances and police cars 😅 and my sister dog and mine got a strong bond with only me and they only listen to me 😂
my brothers does this he is 1 year. he gets into these zones like this is my spot and if you violate the bubble he just looks at you like wtf are you doing and attempts to move you. He will stay locked in like that and remember where the spot is it could be a random hole in the yard. it can be triggered any time you move him from a spot. he wont do it to my brother though.
Don't now if it is too late, age wise for this to work, but the dog trainer who advised me when I got my Red told me to bite their ears as that was what the mother would do if they were naughty in the litter. Puppy nipped, I picked him up, growled at him, then bit his ear. Only did this once or twice and subsequently never had nipping problems. Those puppy teeth were like needles when he did nip....
Just the other day, my boy Smit gave me a heart attack. I was sitting at my desk which looks out of a window and all of a sudden the dogs started going ballistic. I look up and Smit has climbed out of the window, and climbed my fence and was in another part of the yard. Heelers can climb! 😂
@@biggs7109 his name is Hatcher and he is twice the size of a normal chuahwa with a short coat but has red heeler markings and personality... I had a heeler who was protective of me to protective he was trained well but he just would not let anyone get around me just family some not we had to get him put down because he bit someone 2 times 😭😭 we got another one like 2 years later and we trained him very good to not bite but he still nips

Don't feed heelers kibble, period. I'm on 20years with heelers now and they eat what I eat, I eat homecooked simple food. Except homemade tacos.... be careful, these guys really like tacos.
What rubbish. Unless you are out on a cattle station, the dog has to interact with all sorts of other dogs & people. Have them at puppy preschool and socialise them as much as possible when young. You will have a much better, more "chill" dog that will still look after family & home. Had my Red 16 years and the only trouble I ever had was other dogs that had been treated like you propose. By the way, "there" should also be "they're".
Australians don't use them as working dogs as they don't caste and are too hard on the cattle We used Kelpies as the cockies don't want their cattles udders or balls bitten

My red "Dukes" made me exercise, saving my life. Most awesome of dogs🐕.
Remember, if you get a heeler, you have a new alarm clock.

I have a red reeler and a Yorkie 😅

Same here our red heeler will not acclimate to people no matter what. He is very protect and doesn't allow any stranger near our house.
Just remember to have a plan already in place if something happens to you. You don't want to doom your dog because of this.

Nonstop barking isn’t a typical heeler trait. I bet a trainer could fix this for you

The proper name is Australian cattle dog or there are Australian stumpy tails.
Reds and blues can come from the same litter
They are all just names you fucking 🤡

Picking up my Red from the Australian ,bush bred, in a few weeks , 👌💯
My red heeler is almost a adult he's a puppy but almost a adult and he still nips I'm working with him to not to do that
Best thing to do is pop his or her nose, every time. My heeler learned that before ten weeks.

Any tips?
