    Just adopted a cattle dog two days ago. She'll be second after my last passed away at 14yo in January. Very nervous but excited to start training all over again.
    A little context by the way, Pippi (former dog) was 12 at adoption date and had a very abusive past. She was people and dog aggressive, hated sharing toys, and would bit the heels of anyone looking at her food bin (even when empty). We kept her away from dogs and slowly socialized her to people. She was scared of fireworks and belts (I was dressing for work and she hid when I put my belt on. A later experience with my dad doing the same confirmed her fears).
    In the two years we had her, I taught her to be gentle when taking treats, to share her toys, and she ended up cuddling with anyone she could. She was dog aggressive to the end so I would take her to dog parks as late as 12am, or as early as 4am. Or in the rain.
    Tesla is my newly adopted dog. She is 3yo and was tormented by children her whole like. The last 8months she spent on a backyard chain.
    She is amazingly playful, trusting, will share everything. So far the only things she doesn't like are touching her tail. In 10min I taught her a new trick (lay down). Pippi was an amazing prep for this sweet Tesla and I'm so excited to put my skills to the test.

      You are amazing taking on these problem cattle dogs. It is a shame you couldn't teach Pippi to socialise with other dogs. You needed a dog socializing center like Ceasar Milan has in LA. I do hope you will do activity training with Tesla. There are a few good videos with training advise on TH-cam.

      @@turkey4957 I have two cattle dogs. I've met border collies. Both breeds are extraordinarily high-drive, and cattle dogs have a mischievous streak. And Labrador retrievers have a genetic mutation that makes them not get satiated from doing things they like, so labs and lab mixes are prone to overdo things.

    Right off the bat i want to say i love cattle dogs of all kinds but my #1 breed of choice is cowboy corgi.(heeler/corgi mix) that is what you will find in my home and ranch. I was shock to see that is a real obedience team. Those dogs is not display any of the traits that make heelers so amazing. Heelers are intense, smart, super athletic and would rather die then disappoint there 1 person. Those aren't the kind of folks that LOVE that breed for what they are. Those owners have not even scratch the surface of those dogs potential. Having a bad heeler is easy, have a great one is HARD but so worth it. Those dogs are bored, they crave work and challenges. A heeler is not a pet. He wants to be your partner to get a job done, then he wants another job and another. It makes me sad that, this team is acting as Representatives for the breed I LOVE

      Obviously these are not advanced trained dogs, but I would expect at crufts to see better examples. Cattledogs are not the breed of choice in the obedience ring.

    my blue is a pig. i have to feed her alot or she's unhappy. she's not picky though. she'll eat bread and veggies and of course meat or bacon but not my chiuaua. chico is very picky he smells his food and lets it cool down. he has to take little bites or he gets the hiccups. not Luna she can eat a biscuit and sausage sandwich in like 2 bites

      There are some good breeders here (Australia) who will send dogs o/s. Check out dogzonline for registered ACD breeders. They may even be able to put you in contact with some good breeders in the UK. Good luck and remember that life is never dull when shared with a cattle dog!

    After watching several videos of ACDs working on ranches and coming upon this video from the recommendations section, these dogs look OBESE.
    I understand that this is what they look like in show lines, but dayum! This is why I'm not a big fan of conformation shows - they almost always ruin the breed. ):

    I've seen some comments saying they are over fed and fat, although this is not the case! Blue heelers were bred to move cattle around, and their large body size is completely normal. Yes there are blue heelers that are skinnier, although these ones are great size and look like a pure bred!

    • @MIZZKIE
      @MIZZKIE 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you watch videos of ACDs working in actual ranches and not prancing in show rings, you'll see how wrong you are.
