The most beautiful sound in the world.....is the tremulous blast from QE2's deep, majestic horn! There is NOTHING like it left in the world today....the true sound of an ocean liner....
I do agree with you but I was fortunate enough to have my camcorder with me when HMS INVINCIBLE visited the Mersey. Her whistle was like nothing I have ever heard. The beautiful deep sonorous sound was truly deafening !! . I have it for posterity . One of the best steam whistles was RMS Windsor castle which you might find here on you tube.
I’ve just found this, and it’s given me goosebumps and tears. I spent many happy Atlantic crossings and cruises on QE2 with my parents. My beloved (and sadly departed) Pa, adored her, and hearing her whistle brings those memories back. I can see him now, on our balcony watching as we left port and waiting for that whistle. What a lucky girl I was. I never took it for granted, and loved that ship as well. Happy memories.
QE2's horn hands down. I've heard it live many times and it has an amazing deep tone to it. Far better than QM2's. Norway's BTW was pretty weak. Check it out-it's on TH-cam.
QM2 does not compare to the QE2 at any level. QM2 fits the Carnival experience with the Cunard branding. It is a Carnival ship that tries mimic the Cunard experience. I still sail on QM2 though as I prefer the lack of frills found on the cruise ships of today.
@Norfolkscot , The QE2 has horns and an electro horn not a siren. I collect ship horns and have seen these horns in person. These are the horns on the QE2: Mast, air horn: Kockumsonics MKT 230/75 air SuperTyfon. Mast, electric horn: Kockumsonics MA 18/75 ElectroTyfon. Bow: Kockumsonics MTX 150/130 ElectroTyfon.
On every crossing aboard QE2 (14 in all) and on QM2 (2 to date), the captain has always announced the testing of the ship's WHISTLE at 12 noon ship's time.
@chasriner , They were called "ship whistles" back when ships ran on steam, The term "ship whistle" dates from the time when steam whistles was the usual instrument on ships. At some stage the distinction between fog horn and ship's whistle has blurred.Without steam-driven ships the "whistle" was usually an air or electro/piston type horn. Whistles where simple cylindrical instruments. The "horns on ships these days have diaphragms(moved by air) or a piston(moved by an electric motor.
She did have a forward port thruster, and in the orginal plans there we also a set aft on the ship. Sadly, because of money issues, they never made it to the final design. During the final year of service, the bow thrusters were in operable, Cunard never fixed it, partly because she was leaving service, and partly because the thrusters where a little bit to weak to handle the shit.
QM2 has 3 bow thrusts, but still usually has tug assistance for berthing. With a ship that size in confined spaces it's just safer. An ocean liner is a very different beast to a ferry.
Elizabeth is the best friend and my friend is the best friend ever again and how much is the pay auntie and how many years to pay for my friend is the best friend and my friend ever get to the best friend and my family is the same way as well and how many people have to do is the same thing as the new one and my family and my friends ❤️ and my friends and my family 💕💕💕💕💕 and my family is in peace ☮️ and how much you need help me get my friends from work and my friends ❤️ and how much you need help with that lol I love you too my family is in the best way to pay for the best friend and my family is in peace uncle and how many people are you need help with that lol and how much is it for you need help with that too much for you to pay me for each time
You know ships don’t use steam for their horns anymore? They haven’t used steam in decades since ships don’t run on steam. Most horns are pneumatic or electric, especially on a cruise ship
QE2's horn was the best - simply superb.
Hi Chris Frame

tugboat: sounds horn
QE2: *you dare oppose me mortal*
😂
Tugboat:what do you mean?
QE2's horn hands down. I've heard it live many times and it has an amazing deep tone to it. Far better than QM2's. Norway's BTW was pretty weak. Check it out-it's on TH-cam.
lasuvidaboy QM2 is closer to the older ships! One or her horns is from the original Queen Mary!
QM2 does not compare to the QE2 at any level. QM2 fits the Carnival experience with the Cunard branding. It is a Carnival ship that tries mimic the Cunard experience. I still sail on QM2 though as I prefer the lack of frills found on the cruise ships of today.
@@TheEmeraldMenOfficial yea, but om air sadly.. it sounds better om steam

Best ship horn ever!!
I disagree, the Original Mary, and Elizabeth had a better sound, but 736 came in a close second.
@@KitKat-fy1ne And your opinion is like a butthole, everyone has one.

The Horn was the best. Just like the ship. Nothing today comes close to the legendary QE2 ❤❤❤
I rest my case. Queen Elizabeth 2 has a beautiful voice.
Now that's a five horn salute!
I love the sound of her voice.
my favorite ship horn ever was the horn on the SS Normandie.
I get goose bumps every time. Always wonderful times on QE2
After all those years, she never had port thrusters?

A ship's "horn" is properly referred to as its "whistle."
Nope. These are Tyfon horns. Olympic did have a whistle, but whistles have not been common on ships since the thirties.
❤❤❤
no ship is greater than the titanic!
Olympic was haha
Yay
❤
DAYUM!!!!
suena como la vadora de mi casa cuando seca la ropa
The QE2 had a siren not a horn or a whistle.
2 horns blew at once.
