For Lusitania, it's pretty safe to assume it sounded a lot like that, but it sounds very different under high pressure steam power. Reports say the Lusitania and Mauretania sounded very similar.

Queen Mary's whistle (under steam) makes her sound like she's the icon who owned the ocean. Which she absolutely did. Best whistle ever. My #1 favorite ocean liner ever.
I got to travel on her 2x at very end of her service (I was 7) ... believe me her horn would scare me every time 😂. I remember those voyages (also Queen Eliz and SS United States) like yesterday

For some context this video covers all known "Operated" "Owned" and "Chartered" ships that Cunard operated throughout their history. I recognize Olympic, Majestic, and Letitia are not true Cunarders and at face value should not be on this list, but by technicality Cunard did in fact "operate" them whether it be by merger (Cunard-White star Line) or by joint service (Cunard and Donaldson Atlantic Line). I wanted this compilation to cover a broad selection of ships that Cunard operated throughout their history, ships that operated under the Cunard umbrella. I understand your points/concerns if you don't agree with this list, but I figured I'd share my perspective when I was creating this list.
Amazing video! Considering that some of these recordings are rare, it’s amazing hearing their voices of the first time or an actual clear recording of their voices. It feels so Magical and tingly at the same time.
I love that full video of the Sagafjord and Vistafjord passing each other. Sagafjord has to salute her flagship! I also love you show the fleet carnival ignores!
I love the sound of Olympic entering NY. I just love it. For some reason, Seadream I (Sea Goddess I) reminds me of modern ships like Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy's normal horn (not musical). Royal Viking Sun has the pitch I would expect in a *modern* ship horn. There is nothing to say about Queen Victoria, THAT HORN IS JUST AMAZING. I do not know why, but it literally just "tickles" my brain by being at the perfect pitch.
Carpathia isn't on here because I don't trust those videos claiming its her whistle. All those videos of Carpathia's whistle have no source and to me thats a red flag, I just can't trust that.
After RMS Queen Mary 2, it's sad to see the sorry state the Cunard fleet is in. The MS Queen Victoria, Elizabeth, and Anne aren't the ugliest cruise ships I've ever seen, but you could make they case they're each trying hard for that title. Sadly, I guess that's what it takes to be a profitable shipping line these days: finances over finesse. At least we still have the QM2 as the legacy keeper for the great age of ocean liners.
the sound of the lusitania is wrong...that's a steam siren...by making it work with compressed air the density is different and so is the sound...a bit like when you change a person's voice using the helium...the density of helium is different from oxygen and therefore makes the vocal cords vibrate differently
Since its foundation in 1839/1840, 249 ships have sailed for the Cunard Line [founded as the Cunard Steamship Company] (but not all ships were originally built as Cunard-Liners). 🙂 The next ship of the Cunard Line will therefore be the 250th ship (but it will probably be some time before then).
but for britannic III i would consider her as a cunard ship. Shes different then the others. There was i think plans on painting her funnels to being the cunard colors. And possibly renaming her. But its just a theory.
Yes, but Cunard and White Star merged into Cunard White Star, before white star eventually faded away and the merger turned into simply Cunard Line. That is how White Star died.
After white star line merge. Olympic and the rest of white star line ships are now cunarders. In 1998 Carnival Corporation 68% of Cunard so basically Cunard join carnival corp. So now why some ships of cunard became cruise ships except RMS QM2 as an ocean liner and a cruise ship
