Grateful for this version to be posted- I got hooked on this beat back in the 90s as a young girl in Bushwick, NYC listening to HOT97.1 when they played a random late night mix. It hit my heart and I remember recording it with a tape recorder and rewinding it over and over. Felt haunted by the beat and still love it! Deep message
@@Eytl it probably has a spell casted on it. Bc it sounds so beautiful but so it seems like sadness is manifested in it as well. That's the reason why I'm listening to it RN because that intro just do some to me, idk
You summed this up well. This brings up vivid memories both happy and sad. I listened to this over and over again.. mostly on my walkman in 1993. What a time in my life. I was 15 searching for myself in the Bronx.
You could feel the coldness of NYC streets through the visuals and lyrics. He's literally bringing you the reality of "the life" and at the end, everybody dies. But he does the hook in a celebratory manner, which adds to numbness of the track. It's like, its messed up but so what? Reality rap at it's finest.💯
As Grown Black Man who made it to 41 years old and realize the painful truth in each verse puts me in tears. At the Same Time this song inspired me to be a Better man along with all the other “ Poor Righteous Teacher “ Emcees of the Era ....In my case lesson learned...unfortunately some us have not learned. Thank You Tragedy for this Gem 💎.
as a white dude from small town city US, this vid truly personifies urban blight and inner city blues someone like me could only visualize before you see something like this....the has 90's written all over it.
As a white dude from Sweden, this defines my youth alongside 90's hiphop as a whole. I grew up nothing like NYC but eventually got to see some shit on my block.
i remember listening to this in the beginning of the year, january cold on the east coast, court orders, broken home, friends on heroine, broken bank, broken hearts..but this video spoke out to me
I remember listening to this too early 94. I’m a white dude from suburbs but this spoke to me so much-the different struggles many people go through. Sorry to hear the things you went through
This is when Hip Hop was GOLDEN, in it's purest form...Like the comment below, Hip hop was made by the streets & for the streets not the clubs. It used to be the mental medicine/Super Food for the soul when it was ORGANIC but some how it became GENERIC totally corpratized high jacked by the industry..a slow poison/Kryptonite for the soul. What happened to it??..Where did it take a turn for the worst.
Its 2024 and I wanna leave some type of great comment about this track and video.... But I'm speechless, this track is just too ill. Thank you for posting this.
I remember listening this had a case on me, not a serious one but enough to get a Mark on my record, would be my first and would stay there for 15 years, so if I applied for a public job they would see it.. Had this one going walking for hours outside listening to these messages, I work with elders helping Them, there was this old Big shot had a relation with him he passed away like a week before I Got mail from the court, had this loud on my speakers that week, I opened the mail and Saw the charge was dropped, luck hit me and I felt blessed. For a moment I felt life and Got happy that I didn’t get that Mark on my record, it was so relieving. Now the elder I helped I visited his grave, put flowers on there walked out feeling like a new person, from that Day till now, I don’t even get near trouble at all, I felt all these messages and that case gave me a reality check that my life Can actually get ruined this Quick, and thank god that I made it without a mark. 🙏🏽
Just came across this dude under this moniker its my understanding that he became tragedy kadafi who I've known from nas. Anyway this guy's raps hit harder than Nas. I can tell this guy really lived it his raps send chills up my spine (No Diddy).
This is probably the most underrated song I have heard in a long time.. I swear I heard that gutair strum at the start somewhere else though, just don't know where though Edit: got the gutair strum mixed up with some rock song from the 2000s lmao, still come back to this song all the time tho!
know this tune as short add from a german VHS skateboardvideo.. but no internet, no shazam to that time ^^ means until today it took over 20 years to get the track-id from that add with the cool sound.. 🤦♂😄

Idc his raps hit harder than Nas you can tell this dude really is authentic I've seen what he rapped about in real life his raps are bone chilling.
Hip-Hop belongs in the streets not the clubs.
Great quote! Real talk. Agreed.
It belongs in both
It started in clubs though
@@mangeurdepizza9795 Obviously you haven't heard , The Bridge by Mc Shan?
