We're finishing this series as we want to focus more on main features and also our own drag races with us driving. The real world stuff was fun but ending at the end of this month.
On one hand, I'm really impressed with the Lotus driver. Nailed the launch and just a near to perfect run for that car. On the other hand, I can't even look at the Mclaren's run. That was so poor....

No stereo, no AC, no ABS, no steering control. You are one with the car and the road. I do hope they keep the tradition of keeping things light as they decom the present line.
what a great video series strategy. I love these. They make no sense and just stir up drama, and they do it with British banter. the car world needs to simplify like this more
You can typically buy one for pretty cheap relatively. A nice Elise will set you back 30K. And it is not about straight line speed. A Lotus in the turns is unstoppable.
with a proper launch the mclaren would have left the lotus for dust right off the line... the lotus Did sound insane though, what fierce sounding little engine!
Chapman was a genius. Lightness was always his goal and this proves once again he was right. Throw a turn or two in there and the McLaren would never stand a chance. My 111R on fresh rubber is glued to the road.
As an owner of a 675LT exige 430CUP that was intersting! In reality the 675 would monster the exige. Dont use launch and turn traction off. However exige is massively quick and i know james and he is a great driver who really knows his car well. It shows if you have a driver who uses his car a lot and is at one with it what it can do. 😁👍
Thoughts on the channel: Tiff Needell is an absolute legend. There are so many drag racing channels on youtube now, it seems obvious that Lovecars should take this in another direction and not compete against them. Keep the 1/4 mile, include the 1/8 mile time, but focus on track times. You'll go from 219K subscribers to 1 million+ in like a month if you just do this. Thoughts on the clip: The Lotus with its manual gear box and light weight has so much soul. It does seem silly to take these purpose built track cars and do a drag race and not a track time. Also the results here are a bit silly here as well. The McLaren is nearly 2 seconds off its claimed 1/4 mile time of 10.3 seconds. There's no way the car cannot be launched better than it was in this clip. I re-watched the McLaren start and honestly it's so slow off the line, I understand the pavement isn't super sticky but seriously that's like Toyota Yaris speed.
Rigged. A mid 10 second McLaren vs. a 12 second Lotus, yeah right. McLaren owner only needed to mash the throttle and it would have been a guaranteed win.
This proves that it's not just the car, but also the driver's precision on perfectly launching a car makes the difference. Awesome Drag race guys. Loved it.

In the real world my little Yaris overtakes my Lexus RC-F at traffic lights anytime, while it is 2 seconds slower on paper. I would love to have this Lotus along with those two - just because lightweight is so much fun.
seriously, no one in the real world says "ooh what a fast 0-62" everyone says 0-60 as no one cares about km/h here. 3:02 gets to the bit you want to see....

Depends on the track. Put them on a track with a lot of turns the Lotus will slaughter the McLaren. All other things being equal. Too many long straights? The latter will win.
@@driver_18 It would. I own an Elise but a mate owns a late model Exige. When he drives it on fresh rubber he really keeps in right on the edge. You can feel the car letting go a bit on the turns at very high speeds but it is very manageable. The car communicates this to you through the steering.
Owner of a 600LT , I have owned a few Lotus they are great cars, however there’s no comparison in a drag race, both are great on a track , McLaren are similar cars to drive , just turned up to 10 👍

There is very little that can keep up with a Lotus on twisty, curvy roads. They drive like on rails with the standard setup. Soft fresh rubber a must.

Yep. Mine has the 2ZZGE 4Cyl from a Celica. Souped up by Yamaha apparently. At 860kg fully fuelled it is so light.
