    Several questions about it:
    1. During such a conditions, how people go to work or children to school? In Europe, when it's lower than -20, schooling is cancelled or done "remotely from home".
    2. what you shown, is it the usual or unusual. You keep saying that "It's Saskachevan", but I can't get, whether it's like a joke or not.
    3. Buildings. Are they mostly built from bricks, or wood? I mean the walls.
    4. What about flooding? Does it hit Regina? Not in a way, when roads just have some water, but in a way that peoples' basements are full a water and houses ruined by moisture?

      To answer your questions:
      1. We just go. -20 is just a fairly typical January day. It has to be much, much colder before transportation to schools is affected, and even then, schools usually stay open for those who can get there. (Rural schools might be more likely to close than city schools.) To give you an example, the Regina Catholic Schools policy is:

      @@kovalenkoihor4325 Sure. -20 isn't cold. School stay open pretty much no matter what. Buses stop running if it's -40. Spring snowstorms aren't unusual. Houses are generally wood-framed but might have a brick facade. Insulation is important. Flooding is of little concern thanks to diking built along the creek after a flood in the 1970s.

    Very nice video. I really curious about winter in there. Must be really cold. What was the noise in the background, besides your footsteps?

    • @EdwardWillett
      @EdwardWillett  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The wind, probably? Yep, winter is cold here. It's an extreme climate. In winter, we'll dip down close to -40 C on the coldest night of the year. Averages in January I think are something like -22 for lows and -12 for highs.

      Background noise for sure is the wind. And freezing snow hitting the camera trying to go through it like the x-ray

    You're braver than I am. I won't stroll around the block in disley. My house is facing north. I can't see the highway. My house is shaking

      I kept it short, you'll notice! And in the city there's more places where you're out of the wind as you walk. In the country I wouldn't venture out either.

      Typically sometime in November to late March or early April.

    Looking forward to that cold! Ty! What's with the rings around the tree trunks? O.o

    • @EdwardWillett
      @EdwardWillett  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're bands of insulation covered with plastic, duct-taped to the tree, and then covered with grease. It keeps certain insects from climbing the trunk and laying eggs in the trees, where their larvae (cankerworms) eat the leaves.
