The doors of the church is open... 2 chairs in front of the altar. Placed there by Deacon so-and-so. Mother board sitting on the front row all dressed in white. Pastor wearing a black robe with crosses on each side of the sash draped on him. Chior getting ready to give an A and B selection. Sister so-in-so reading the announcements. Hammond B3 organ and upright piano playing. Collection plate with red velvet bottom being passed around and hand fans with Martin Luther King picture on it waving everywhere. Happy times!!!
We used to sing and then MOAN this song! What a time what a time!! A deacon would be on his knees praying and the spirit pf the Lord would be Overwhelming!!! Tylertown, MS
Call: I love the Lord He heard my cry. Response: I-I love the Lord He heard my cry. Call: And pitied every groan. Response: A-n-d pitied e-v-e-r-y groan. Call: Long as I live while trouble rise. Response: L-o-n-g as I-I live while trouble rise. Call: I'll hasten to His throne. Response: I'll ha-asten to-o-o His throne. Call: I-I love the Lord He bowed His head. Repsonse: I-I love the Lord He bowed His head. Call: And chased my grief away. Response: A-n-d chased my grief away.
i rememeber sitting in church as a little girl hearing them sing this song- my mother eyes shut tightly her beautriful voice chiming in, the old deacon leading with his war torn weary voice and the preacher egging him on with " yes sir" and "yeah Lord"... Now 30 years later I am professional classical singer but i still rememeber the beautiful hyms and love to sing spirituals and hyms while cleaning or driving or when i just feel it-else i seldom hear it these days
When I heard this song, I knew the plate was about to get passed around, again, again, and again. And they won't stop singing until it was full. Mt. Pisgah Baptist Memphis Tn. And that's the truth.
My God My God! Hearing this brings me comfort. Deacon LC Anderson I can hear you singing this now. It was the sweetest melody I ever heard as a child and I was blown away that you could sing! This stuck with me and I will never forget it or you! I miss you so much paw paw. Rest in love Deac🤍😘

I was moved at the sound of these hyms at 7years old and I'm over 50 now and they bring a sense of comfort and closeness to God.
I couldn’t agree. I also was moved as a child singing this in church with the elders. I’m 48 and it very comforting today.

No longer go to church but this would stop me in my tracks. I grew up with this in Memphis.
George Whitney Hey I’m from Memphis too. I lean on this hymn.
Hey! I saw this comment and was curious. Are you no longer a believer, or have you just stepped away from the fellowshipping aspect?
@@gabriellewestbrook3042 no longer a believer but some of our traditions, while based on the church, go beyond it.
