- This video showcases my custom designed Ultimate Machine (also known as a Useless Machine) built using the new LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kit. I call it the LuuMa EV3.

It's a little bit more elaborate than the traditional ultimate machine, featuring 6 different responses for turning the switch off and 2 evasive maneuvers for trying to prevent the switch from being turned on in the first place.
Step by step instructions for building it can be found on my website at: jkbrickworks.co...
The Mindstorms project file for running the program is also there. Instructions for connecting the ports can be found in the program file (open the content editor if it doesn't open automatically).
All the parts required to build the core are from set number 31313 LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kit.
I had a lot of fun with this one, especially programming the various responses. As always, let me know in the comments what you think, and if there are any other cool mechanical creations you'd like to see built out of LEGO!

What I like about this is there are tons of 'useless machines' out there, but I've never actually seen one that "trolls" like this does, making the button move and even stuttering like it's thinking of what it wants to do, this was awesome :D

There are three characters here. The human flipper, who seeks to have the switch stay in the on position. The robotic flipper, who seeks to have the switch stay in the off position. Then there's the switch itself, who exists only to enjoy sowing chaos between the two.

I have a model that does, haha. It's a little plastic gun made out of one small piece of plastic. It pulls the gun on you then slowly puts it down, then quickly pushes the switch again. These things are so fucking fun and they never get old, especially at parties, with friends, after a few drinks.

JK Brickworks Turning the lever one way would stop the finger that pushed it and starts up the other finger which pushed it the other way which activates the first finger and it should keep going on. In fact, the engine is able to do 3 things: Moving the switch itself, opening for removing the switch after is was pushed ... and running sideways. :D

I don't care if it was programed or run via remote control, that was FUNNY! The timing was perfect, the acting wasn't too bad, and clearly this machine was built for no other purpose than to screw with you.

I think the reason he kept fighting the box was the fact that he wanted to turn the switch, and the box was undoing it, therefore his brain doesn't consider the task completed until the switch has been flipped and stays that way. The human brain does not like leaving things undone.

I'm not sure what the problem might be. I just tried downloading them myself from the website and they seem to work fine. The files are quite large, so if you are trying to open directly in the browser it might take a while?

How I think it works is if you flip the switch it pushes the button to activate the timer for the arm to pop up and flip the switch which pushes the same button and deactivates the arm.
This is an age old concept, several versions of it have gone viral through TH-cam in the past. There's just something about a machine consistently being triumphant over a simple human action that drives people nuts.
1:05 I like how the motorized arm mechanism is struggling to find the actual red switch. That is funny.
