It's a shame the great jazz drummers from way back who are not with us anymore are not around today to enjoy this guy.. I'm sure they all are smiling and applauding him on!
I never get tired of watching anything Dylan Elise does on the drums. He's so ridiculously talented. I admit however that I don't watch his "career" on a regular basis so I don't know how things are going for him in recent days, but I truly hope he's gained the success that he deserves. Anyone who has dedicated that much time and work into their craft deserves that success, if that is what they desire, at any rate.
New Zealand should be so proud to have a musician of this calibre in their midst. What a talent. I hope his career takes him to the world because he deserves it. To compare him with others is pointless. His skills are his own and his style will develop into a unique player. He is still quite young after all..... Pay no attention to the ever-present knockers. This guy has the goods and we should all be wishing him well. End of my rant....
I think this guy is a blast to watch and listen to. I also have a hunch he has performed this routine without any "mistakes" which further blows my mind
i can t imagine how much practise he invested in his skills. on top a unbelieveble talent, i guess lot of disciplin and the result is ? a world class drummer. and when its look easy and relaxed than we have a fact more that he is out of this world. my biggest respect.
Amazing. Even thought Steve Smith, Buddy Rich and Art Blakey all did these same tricks, as many of you have stated, it does not make this performance any less remarkable. All musicians are a product of their influences, as Frank Zappa once said, "The last guys to make truly original music wore wigs and stockings." This kid is TUFF!!!
Just awesome. These types of drummers let other drummers know there are so many ways to progress and ideas to form. And come up with some amazing original ways to play. Thinking outside the kit
The best and finest drummer I ever saw play drums with his band was without doubt the greatest drummer in the history of drumming,I am talking about the great American jazz drummer Mr Buddy Rich and his big band that used to tour the world.I first saw Buddy Rich in the 1970's nobody could compete with Buddy he was the best. This young man Mr Dylan Elise reminds me of Buddy Rich,I shall be watching Dylan work with great interest.
Alot of the backlash comes from jealousy....very sad.👎 Personally I'd rather take the time to listen and learn what he does than give him the backlash. Dylan is an amazing drummer and many of us could learn from what he and other pro drummers do. Drum on people.😀
Jo Jones did this at some drum forum years ago. Max Roach and Ed Thigpen followed suit. Steve Smith and now this guy are carrying the torch for all of us Jazz inspired Diaspora.
Yeah, some of the tricks have been done, but Dylan takes it to the next level. If you have anything negative to say, you obviously don't know what you are taking about :)
He was also at The WORLD YOUTH JAZZ FESTIVAL (WYJF) 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA from 3 to 5 May 2013. SORAK!!! Brought both times to Malaysia by WORLD YOUTH FESTIVALS MANAGEMENT SDN BHD. SORAK!!!
Man anybody who said Steve Smith and buddy rich did anything close to this is just jealous, I am a drummer myself and have watched both those guys my whole life. They paved the way but dylan elise is another level I'm proud to be an American but he is the best hands down nobody is quicker not Thomas lang, Chris Coleman both great but not on his level. Nobody can keep a beat and juggle sticks the way he does Steve smith, buddy rich, Thomas lang, Chris Coleman not quite.
Jonathan Miller absolutely I’m sure if he was marketing himself like lang, I would think those that have a brain would instantly give him the accolades he deserves 🖖
A video like this exposes the "talent" myth. Certainly, different people are born with different natural gifts and inclinations, but only countless hours of practice will enable a person to do stuff like this.
Dylan è Nato con il Ritmo nel sangue, avendo Una Velocità Spaventosa, i giochi con le bacchette li faceva solo Linel Hampton, OGGI È NATO UN NUOVO TALENTO MONDIALE !!!
Paul Colson Buddy could NEVER do a lot of stuff this man Dylan does, on the drums. This man is a phenom even beyond the AMAZING Buddy Rich. Watch some of his videos such as the 10 or more part video playlist of him playing 9 years ago on the drunk weekend streets of New Zealand with no shirt and passersby all around him and annoying as can be. He just keeps playing amid the chaos and I must say, surpasses Buddy Rich's abilities and SPEED. This guy is the only person I can say that about. No other drummer, matches or surpasses Buddy Rich......except, Dylan Elise.
Dylan is a groove monster, this is what it’s all about, if you can’t get people to move to your playing, what’s the point. It all started in Africa and let’s keep that way. Love this dude, and he’s just having fun with the highhat, all youngsters should try to emulate Dylan, a true badass.🖖
It's a shame the great jazz drummers from way back who are not with us anymore are not around today to enjoy this guy.. I'm sure they all are smiling and applauding him on!
I was there watching him play. It blew my mind

there are a million incredible drummers out there but this guy has a way of rising to the top...
Thank you Dylan your fantastic one of a kind brother..God Bless...

Agree. All musicians are a product of their influences. This kid is remarkable and it will be exiting to see how far he takes it.
I'm sure he's a national hero.
oldludwig good rant Joe, he is very sharp
Agreed!
oldludwig. I think he's Samoan...but a New Zealand citizen living most of his life in New Zealand.
as a drummer, this is just a ton of fun to watch and enjoy with him. Thank you!
I think this guy is a blast to watch and listen to. I also have a hunch he has performed this routine without any "mistakes" which further blows my mind
This guy is on a whole other level.. Amazing
i can t imagine how much practise he invested in his skills. on top a unbelieveble talent, i guess lot of disciplin and the result is ? a world class drummer. and when its look easy and relaxed than we have a fact more that he is out of this world. my biggest respect.
he is my favorite drummer..
Greatest drummer and magician! There has not been anyone greater than him. I'm one of your biggest fans! Bravo! You are the master!
Look up Steve Smith and his hi hat solos. This is exactly where this is from
I saw this guy recently (March 2014) he was the drummer for Blood Sweat & Tears and he did this solo....Crowd went nuts.
He came to my school four years ago, he was so fun to watch! I got to hang out with him afterwards as well which was pretty cool
Amazing. Even thought Steve Smith, Buddy Rich and Art Blakey all did these same tricks, as many of you have stated, it does not make this performance any less remarkable. Super craziness. Dylan’s skill level is exceptional.
his hand eye coordination is alien
I just love watching Dylan

Steve Smith does it since this guy wasn't even born
Steve Williams so?buddy rich, jimmy chamberlain etc etc,but this guy is great anyway.
@@stevewilliams2240Hell yes. Steve Smith is awesome
Just awesome. These types of drummers let other drummers know there are so many ways to progress and ideas to form. And come up with some amazing original ways to play. Thinking outside the kit
I like the videos where he drops a stick and keeps on smiling almost as much as I like the videos of when he plays it perfectly.

Everybody hates on this kid, he's one of the best out there right now
Alot of the backlash comes from jealousy....very sad.👎

Drum on people.😀
Wait. Who hates this guy??
How could they ever hate on him other than jealousy?

Great stick Control and Dynamics
Yeah, some of the tricks have been done, but Dylan takes it to the next level.

Our 21st century Buddy Rich...
World greasy girl drummer
He was also at The WORLD YOUTH JAZZ FESTIVAL (WYJF) 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA from 3 to 5 May 2013. SORAK!!! Brought both times to Malaysia by WORLD YOUTH FESTIVALS MANAGEMENT SDN BHD. SORAK!!!
Just one cymbals and 3 chopsticks and a perfect 👏 show a perfect 🎁
Holy shit!!!!!where did this guy come from? I checked out a few vids of him.......he is a monster.
Who the hell would thumbs down this?
it's always the jealous ones that give thumbs down and make shitty comments.
Those 5 minutes seemed like 1 minute...dat is how fukin great this guy is
this guy is from another world
How can people seriously not like this? haters
i saw this dude playing a small kit and was amazed
This guy deserve all blessings til eternity a drummer's god simple as that❤
Some of that stuff are from Steve Smith, from the drummers collective 2002 concert ... anyway Dylan is a great drummer
Oh my god. I think the drum core just found their next competitive instrument.
Wow! So good!
Dudes hands are incredible.
Man anybody who said Steve Smith and buddy rich did anything close to this is just jealous, I am a drummer myself and have watched both those guys my whole life. Dylan is from Wellington, New Zealand. I'm proud to be a kiwi.
Brandon O'Sullivan I don't think he's kiwi blood....don't think he's Maori blood. I heard he is actually of Samoan ancestry but lives in NZ.
Jonathan Miller absolutely I’m sure if he was marketing himself like lang, I would think those that have a brain would instantly give him the accolades he deserves 🖖
c'est certainement l'un des meilleurs batteurs de l'histoire, il faut qu'il fasse attention avec ,qui?il vas jouer ! ! !
From outerspace.....great!
This guy is a true performer
Wow, this is simply incredible. I just wish his hi hats didn't sound so brash.
They sound like un-miked hi-hats in an auditorium.
Amazing, once again!
Para mi es el mejor baterista del mundo (he's the best drummer of the word)
Amazing
The guys amazing
The Best of the Best
Even with his mistakes he makes up for it cause you just gotta know that's some hard shit to do he's definitely a one of a kind drummer
all i can say is man your good
guess he watched Steve Smith carefully. awesome job anyway.
Excellent amazing.
Steve Smith also did "Mr. Hi-Hat"
Skills amazing🤙
Always Awesome 🥁💎🥁
😳 Wow you are awesome Dylan
makes me wanna do more on my hats. but I have cheap sabian b8 hats.
Mcneelyshouseofmusic JR McNeely Blame it on the hats. That's what I always say.
lol. You can only make cheap equipment sound so good.
You dont need good hats do any of this. If anything its the hihat stand holding you back because youd need good response on the pedal.
3:20 came from a seesaw hat video. was expecting it halfly but got something better
Everything he did was exactly what Steve Smith did on his hi hat solos. Look it up
I SAW THE SAME TECH FROM STEVE SMITH ON THIS HI HAT ON YOU TUBE BOTH ARE GREAT DRUMMERS
@4:29 - so he IS human after all!!!???
What cymbals does he use.
A video like this exposes the "talent" myth. Certainly, different people are born with different natural gifts and inclinations, but only countless hours of practice will enable a person to do stuff like this.
Creativity = hands down
Dylan è Nato con il Ritmo nel sangue, avendo Una Velocità Spaventosa, i giochi con le bacchette li faceva solo Linel Hampton, OGGI È NATO UN NUOVO TALENTO MONDIALE !!!
Max Roach; Papa Joe Jones … Mr. High Hat
All the rest is eye-candy acrobatics.
This guy is a freak 👏
From Wich Planet is he?
\m/
A lot like Steve Smith's hi-hat routine.
Very fun to watch I lost my sticks in the first 30 seconds, I think, cool! No practice needed!
que buenas manos tiene cuantas horas de rudimentos
There is no "Best drummer in the world ", but there is "The best drummer I've ever seen "!!
Красавец! В полном и переносном смысле. Мастер!
he's wearing a shirt???
All this has been done back in the 1940's 50's 60's 70's Nothing new. You still don't get better than Buddy Rich.
Paul Colson Buddy could NEVER do a lot of stuff this man Dylan does, on the drums. This man is a phenom even beyond the AMAZING Buddy Rich. You have to put Spoon Lady with this guy one day
Speed circus?
stage helper DUCKS down so we don't see him ... priceless! lol
Awesome
this is the stuff Steve Smith did when Elise was unborn :D
Seriously? And Max did this when Steve was a child. And Jo Jones did this before all of them. But Dylan Is doing it NOW!
Madness!!!!!!!
This dude is cool!
Superman!
love this guy but Steve Smith did this years ago.
uuaaaahhh.. aamaziinng
love it!!
MUITO TÉCNICA, NUNCA VI ALGO PARECIDO.
This is better than Steve Smith's version of Mr. High Hat.
