Man you completely missed what Reno is totally about. Its not the casinos, thats more like a Vegas thing. I would say Reno is more for outdoor adventures since its close to alot of beautiful areas. Lots of scenery, hiking trails, hotsprings and Lake Tahoe is like 45 minutes away.
I miss going to Lake Tahoe. My parents used to have a time share out there. That's the first time I ever saw snow in person and had a snow ball fight with my brother

Does Reno have police? A mayor? A town council? It looks like death. Why would you let your downtown area, in an iconic city, be turned into a s---hole?
@@davemattia She doesn't care. Our mayor sucks. Everything is about her dancing around to get attention for herself. She's just a bobblehead. Our police have been more or less ordered to stand down. Our town council is a joke. Too much California influence. We're just another sinking ship unfortunately. All the good stuff is outside of town for the most part.
@dee Micheals I totally agree. Reno is disgusting!!!!! It's not safe not to mention absolutely disgustingly dirty. 30 yrs ago it was fun. Now it's just an embarrassment
Reno is going down hill fast! It's becoming very expensive and it's getting trashier by the year thanks to Californians among other things. Now with climate change, Reno will be permanently covered in smoke from now on.
@Chris Burton I mean it’s just like any regular town really. It’s beautiful and there are some cool malls and shops. It’s also pretty safe except for downtown at late night.
@Panda Angry lol what's outside of down town???? Literally everything fun about Reno is everywhere but downtown... Gambling.. we can do that 7/11 or the grocery store Reno air races, dawn patrol during the ballon races, hundreds of thousands of public land... It's not about being in "Reno" that's just the general area when most people say they are from Reno it's because it's easier to say then saying panther valley, Damonte Ranch, Spanish springs, Robb drive. Lockwood. Reno isn't just the city limits, Reno is all of us in the surrounding areas. That is why Reno is the biggest little city in the world. You have to live here or be from here to understand that.
@Panda Angry Midtown, hiking trails around Galena, shopping centres in South Reno, Rancho San Rafael, etc. I havent been in the casinos in downtown in years and yes, I'm a local.
Lived in Reno my hole life and if u go down town it’s not that’s bad yes crazy shit happen but crazy shit happen everywhere’s just mind your business and you’ll be good
As a local to the Reno area I gotta say, I'm sorry you even went downtown. It's literally the worst part of the city. Locals tend to avoid it unless they're going to the casinos, or work there. Come back after covid, and explore the areas away from downtown and you'll likely have a much better experience. Also, the Peppermill is definitely the nicest of the casinos.
Yeah I definitely messed up and missed some awesome things about Reno haha but I knew that 1 day simply isn’t enough time to explore a city so I’m looking forward to going back some day . Despite my clickbait title 😜
Hey! I totally agree (local too). I would say if you *do* go downtown, go during a festival. There’s: Hot August Nights (the largest); tons of themed bar crawls (our Santa Crawl is the largest in the U.S.; but wait until after Covid); BBQ, Blues, & Brews (a personal favorite); etc. Really in the summer there’s a festival like every other weekend haha. It’s so fun!
@@Pompsie I would come back once the whole Neon Line District is near done, its supposed to be a big redevelopment of west downtown. There is gonna be a whole new festival grounds, Sands Regency is getting completely remodeled with even a zipline, a bunch of neon lights and burning man art. Agreed. I’ve visited 4 times in the past 15 months (getting all the time I can with my nephew while he’s cute and little ;) and my Sis and BIL have introduced me to some Amazing spots!! We can put together a list for you, Pompsie :)
@ijusthadsex20 your here in the middle of a pandemic so of course it’s going to be gloomy and seem as if there is nothing to do. You can’t compare Reno’s resorts to five star resorts in other places because reno isn’t a huge city.
Damn, You got reno all wrong man. What makes this the place to be is the work/party life, clubs, and outdoors activites. Come during the fall, play a round of golf, rent a car, hit Lake Tahoe and get drone footage. visit Virginia City for a beer and old western shootout show. Take a trip up mount rose or slide mtn for some beautiful views or go snowboarding/skiing or mountain biking.... it really is everything around reno that makes it fun.
I grew up in Vegas and moved to Reno for the "small town" college experience and trust me there are layers to Reno you can't see in 2 days! Try visiting again post pandemic.
go to the suburb casinos, nice, relaxed, dont go to downtown Reno, it's one big homeless shelter, Silver Legacy has great slot machines but other than that never go to downtown Reno, suburbs have some great casinos, Boomtown, Bonanza, Grand Sierra, stay at Bonanza or Grand Sierra, downtown truly disgusting
Next time add a couple of days to check out Lake Tahoe and also Virginia City. Tahoe is a natural beauty, and Virginia City has a lot of great old buildings and shops that would make for some pretty cool video. It's an easy flight from Vegas if you want to skip that drive. Loving your videos!!!
I didn't know Lake Tahoe was so close to Reno. I wanted to visit both. Now I think I'll just go to Tahoe 😆 Pompsie, I'm loving your videos. Thanks so much for taking us with you. If you get a chance to go to Lake Tahoe, that might be nice to see! Glad you showed us the Peppermill. Otherwise I would have wondered what the big deal was about Reno. That hotel looks grand.
@@justwatching1980 Reno isn't bad. It's actually growing and more expensive to live than in Vegas. Reno isn't about gambling, it's actually turning into the "little Silicon Valley". When I visited Reno, I had friends who lived there. We only went to the Peppermill and it was awesome. Then we went to Tahoe and Virginia City which was the best trip of my life. We camped in the deep woods of Tahoe, had an encounter with a huge brown bear who ate up most of our food, trampled down our tents and chased us till we ran into our truck, and then the Rescue guys came and chased him away. It was so much more fun than boring Reno!!
You are 35 years too late. Reno had many many great casinos and was booming 24/7/365 back in the "happy time" lm old and an old school gambler I still very much enjoy cal neva and "the row" cal neva has no hotel anymore but great table games. I like El dorado and silver legacy craps pits good game excellent staff. El dorado is my go to hotel, but I've stay at most of them over the years. If you a serious fan of adult gaming, Reno is still the biggest little city in the world. Thank you for sharing this video pompsie. :)
I moved to Reno from a beautiful town in California seven years ago and my husband and I love it here!!! I’ve been in a casino MAYBE three times to eat at restaurants, it’s just not what Reno is about anymore. First mistake was not staying at GSR...I hate that dirty strip in downtown. Second, we have the most amazing events and there is something exciting happening every weekend for months, especially during the summer. Summer is hands down my favorite time here, and we never had things like this to do in California. Our kids have so much more to do and be involved in here. Sadly, due to covid it’s all been cancelled. And our outdoor activities are year-round. Lake Tahoe is a gem and only thirty minutes away. It’s worth the short drive, so next time rent a car and check it out.
What neighborhoods would u recommend to live? Me and my boyfriend live in Vegas. He likes the city life for his work as a chef but wants something more safe for the both of us and i prefer the outdoors and mountains.
Since I’m from northern Cali, my family would go to Reno to gamble before the growth of Indian Casinos. I typically stay at the pepper mill or Atlantis and avoid downtown Reno.
Thanks Pompsie. Your videos are great and very professional. I’ve visited Reno at least four times and it’s sad to see it so quiet. Keep the videos coming as they are much appreciated.
It was scary driving downtown at night during the shutdown- I live in Reno and I think he should come back to see our city again! He got a really bad impression of it 🥲
Reno is an amazing place to come during the summer time but sadly this damn pandemic is messing everything up, but my city(Reno) is an amazing place to visit when this whole pandemic is over
Summer in this whole area is awesome, and even with the pandemic this past summer was still nice. I like to drive to Verdi and either fish or swim out in the river. It's a lot cleaner that further up.
@@mikerobinson2021 The downtown area is a shit hole the rest is fine I think I haven't been everywhere. The suburban areas that surround the city can be pretty affluent with low crime rates
Circus Circus looked closed because after an explosion in the UNR dorms the college kids moved into the tower as dorms. Next GSR is by far the best casino in town. I wish we could redo this video when lockdown wasn't going on, I could show you what makes Reno amazing. Reno is completely different from Vegas. We are an Ex-casion town that has moved on.
I’ve lived in Reno for my whole life and have probably been downtown for about 10 minutes. Except when we go to the ball park. It’s not what makes Reno nice.
There are some great eateries and hang out spots, though. I love going into downtown Reno because there are hidden gems and it isn’t ALL overdone like this city I live in now (which I also LOVE Tremendously) Of course, I’m a woman who appreciates the ‘Carney’ atmosphere behind the scenes of any production ;)
Born and raised here. You visited the section where you get black out drunk and bring the wrong decision home haha Reno is much more than scummy downtown, its awesome!!
I have to clarify something you said in this video. The Row (Eldorado, Silver Legacy, Circus Circus) are all connected, but it's the SECOND FLOOR, not under ground. Oh, and the Peppermill is south of downtown.
I'd recommend Reno: when there's not a freaking epidemic.... summer (for tahoe especially)..... and not to just hang out in downtown (its pretty much a shithole)
@Panda Angry bro Reno weather is superior, we get all 4 seasons. When it’s winter we get snow, when it’s summer it gets hot. California is not all that in weather at least, not to mention the horrible traffic. Reno is pretty bad when it comes to attractions, but the scenery and Tahoe and trails and gsr are totally to die for, rent in Cali is more expensive than Reno too.
@Panda Angry I’ve also lived in California my whole 16 years so I know what I’m talking about, Reno I’ve only lived in for 2 years but it does have some better things than California.
Permanent smoke covered skies? No thanks. More homeless people thanks for Californians moving in and rising costs. No thanks. Far better cities than Reno.
Grand Sierra bellhop stole my $200 dollar bag, all of my clothes and $1000 camera. Stay at your own risk. They even had color pics of it on the cart entering the elevator and missing by the time she made it to my room! They offered me no compensation.
Yeahhh, this is not even close to being the real Reno lol. I live here and he saw like 10% of what we have to offer. From what he showed, the only real change is that Harrah's closed. He missed the whole city.
Who goes to Reno for the casinos? Those are for all the elderly people that live here, and to have something to look at while on psychedelics (highly recommended in Reno). The real fun lies around Reno with all the outdoorsy stuff, and the people here are their own kind of special. Everyone from the homeless to the rich have almost the same attitude about everything.
You ever been to Portland? The city is amazing I love it. But its a sanctuary city. Decriminalization on all drugs to help the addicts recover properly or whatever reason. But because all of that, heroin camps with piles of used needles. People with tents literally in front of Chase banks, doors everywhere. Its crazy in Portland. Everyone always says its always getting worse. Its always been this way though think about the East Coast in 70s nd shit. Its the same situations going on just over different trends or drugs.
Yea I know this has been said already but it’s hard to do justice in Reno during the height of CoVid and in the winter time. Hope you go back & try again
See? It’s not just us transplants that know this and admit it and warn others. You go downtown and your choices are: give the same homeless and tweekers change that have virtually stayed in front of McDonald’s for the past six years, watch those same type of idiots talk to the lamp posts by Legacy and fight pizza boxes, or delve into The Row and have your $1200 smart phone stolen. GSR, Peppermill, or Atlantis or stay in Reno to go visit elsewhere in a more outdoors type setting. If you go downtown you will hate it here. I haven’t been to downtown since I stopped working there and I’m 2000% happier. As soon as I have to go there for something I become immediately depressed. I went to the Walgreens for 5 mins last week and through a crazy hobo out that was harassing the cashier because he thought he was in the 80s and wanted a pack of Marlboros for $1.60. He then threw the change at her and met me as he turned and he didn’t not like the result. THAT is downtown every ten minutes and it’s so sad that there are not more laws against that type of thing around what the city calls “tourist attractions”.
@@r6-AgentScorpionParkerKRider23 you just described exactly what seattle has turned into. Except the crazy homeless are allowed to set up tents in front of the mcdonalds, and in every city park. Make the mistake of making eye contact you will probably get stabbed. Also now they are allowed to live in cars and theres currently a court case deciding if police are allowed to tow someone's car if they say they live there. So basically any parking spot has now turned into a permanent living space. Even if they are illegally parked there.

You need to keep in mind that Reno is very different from Vegas. I was born and raised in Reno, and have been to Vegas several times. The biggest difference is that Northern Nevada is more for outdoor activities. Others have mentioned to come back in summer and I agree. You actually visited at the worst time. Winter is depressing and with Covid-19, anything decent is shut down and what's open is no fun. I'd encourage you to visit again if things open back up and during summer when the special events are flourishing.
I've been visiting Reno for the past seven years with the exception of 2021. I have made my reservations at Peppermill to visit once again in February of 2022. Hope Peppermill and Lake Tahoe haven't changed much since 2020. Great video.
You should have gone to the Peppermill and Atlantis Hotel & Casino. Also the Grand Sierra Resort and the Nugget. I love Reno, it's an old school feeling. Not as crowded and expensive as Las Vegas.

What would you suggest to a middle age couple with two young boys for things to do in or around Reno? We've been talking about visiting Reno some day...maybe after the Pandemic is over.
@@RoughNeck777 That depends upon what you are into and what time of year you visit. In winter, the skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing are favorites. Sitting in a hot tub surrounded by the snow and stars in Squaw Valley is amazing. In the summer, there is even more: hiking, mountain biking, sailing, boating, fishing - it's an outdoor paradise. We take our kids rafting on the upper Truckee out of Tahoe City every summer. If you are into a more urban vibe, the Midtown area is a lively spot full of artsy culture and independent restaurants. Plus, we have festivals almost every weekend all summer. Hot August Nights, Hot Air Balloons, Art Town (the entire month of July), River Festival/kayak competition, Rib Cookoff, Shakespeare Festival, and more. The whole Reno Tahoe Carson City and Virginia City area is just a much more chill atmosphere. Full of history tradition mountains lakes ghost towns old mining towns taverns etc etc.
videos like this make me happy because they do such a poor job at exploring Reno that it saves us from more tourists. so thank you for this casino tour!
You didn’t scratch the surface of what Reno has to offer. Midtown is fabulous! You could spend 2 days just walking up and down, eating, drinking, shopping at eclectic little shops...tattoos, palm readers, salons, ethnic delis, bakeries, coffee shops...massage and spas...And that’s just Midtown. Downtown and the Riverwalk is a different experience all together. If you ever make it back to Reno, I would suggest staying out of the casinos and exploring a bit more of the local culture. It’s gritty, but that’s what we love about Reno!
The casino's and downtown are after thoughts. Plus, unless you like to gamble, why bother going downtown and staying at casinos. Also, we are in the middle of a pandemic so it's not a very good representation of the city as a whole. I live in Reno. It's not the greatest place, but there is more to it than the few blocks he explored. Downtown is probably one of the least desirable places to visit.
Or *actually* explore in the city. That's not what happened in this video. This is a small fraction of what Reno has to offer. As fun as casino vibes are, it's my least favorite part of Reno. There's so much more here!
The downtown area suffers from urban decay and is kinda scummy I stay away from it as I live in South Reno it's a whole different world over here. Everything is dead cause we are in a pandemic and it gets this January look about it where it's very dreary and dark.
The hotels know what they're doing. They don't lose money on those free rooms; overall guests leave more money on the tables and in the machines than the value of a room, especially an empty room.
My husband and I just moved to Henderson, NV so we’ve been binging your videos to get familiar with the Vegas area. Love your filming style and dialogue!! Oh, I forgot, I went to Lake Tahoe when I was in Reno. The lake is beautiful. However, I think Reno is really more about the outdoors activities like hanging at the lake, hiking, and then going to the mountains for the snow and skiing. That is better than the Casinos.
Dude the comment section is boosting this video's performance I think, except the comments are all locals telling him what a crappy job he did of representing our fair city.
I've been going to Reno since I was 23. 33 years later, Reno is just a small glimmer of what it used to be. The best casino I saw there was Eddie's Fabulous Fifty's, where the waiters danced on the tables 50's style. It was a fun place. All the casinos had themes, like a mini Vegas. Now, sadly it has no remnants of it's past. Even the Cal Neva, upon renovating the inside old west décor to the horrible neon it has now, this classic one of the last original Reno casinos, in my eyes, is gone. I truly miss the old Reno. Look it up. Perhaps there are pictures of the past on the internet.
Nice job. I appreciate the down to earth, non-cynical approach to these Pompsie videos. Just saying it like it is without trying to act too cool or over the top, but highly entertaining and informative. Rock on.
We stayed at the Peppermill a few years back for our anniversary, and we loved it! It's not the 1980's Peppermill any more (for those of us old enough to remember). Now it's tastefully upscale, even if a little Italian cliche as Pompsie describes. But, it was super-clean and classy. If you find yourself in Reno, the Pep is the place to be.
so sad most american cities downtown is a disaster and Reno is a prime example, they have pumped money in it, beautiful minor league ballpark, lots of dog walking parks, art, etc etc but the homeless are in complete control of downtown and again like most american cities the suburbs are great, so here is the plan, dont go to downtown Reno, it's one big homeless shelter, Silver Legacy has great slot machines but other than that never go to downtown Reno, suburbs have some great casinos, Boomtown, Bonanza, Grand Sierra, stay at Bonanza or Grand Sierra, downtown truly disgusting
Yeah Reno is a mid-size city I think, this idiot barely saw anything over 500,000 live here and growing. He didn't even go to Lake Tahoe. The video made it seem like all there was is just a few hotels and a run down downtown.

That’s awesome! And true!
😆😂 absolutely true. As Native casinos opened in NorCal, OR, WA & Idaho Reno’s markets dried up. It was always a regional draw.
Reno is going down hill fast! It's becoming very expensive and it's getting trashier by the year thanks to Californians among other things. Now with climate change, Reno will be permanently covered in smoke from now on.
Hi! I live in Reno been here for 32 years and all I can say is, Reno is amazing if you stay away from downtown. And when there isn’t a pandemic....

Downtown and the Riverwalk is a different experience all together. If you ever make it back to Reno, I would suggest staying out of the casinos and exploring a bit more of the local culture. It’s gritty, but that’s what we love about Reno!
Idk why but Reno just looks depressing, definitely would need to go explore outside the city
It's because of the lockdowns. It was very lively before the pandemic
It always looks dreary in January. Looks better in spring and summer.
The downtown area suffers from urban decay and is kinda scummy I stay away from it as I live in South Reno it's a whole different world over here. Everything is dead cause we are in a pandemic and it gets this January look about it where it's very dreary and dark.
dude great video, Reno is about the Truckee river, come in the summer i'll take you kayaking, fun azz river, and i get free rooms all time
Damnn can you take me ?? Lol
The hotels know what they're doing. They don't lose money on those free rooms; overall guests leave more money on the tables and in the machines than the value of a room, especially an empty room.
Come back in summer and have a local show you all the awesome stuff Reno has to offer!
Something about the music you choose, your flow and giggle makes it so I can't stop watching. Great videos!!
My husband and I just moved to Henderson, NV so we’ve been binging your videos to get familiar with the Vegas area. Love your filming style and dialogue!! Honestly some places we know we will never actually visit but we enjoy watching your vlogs.
Hope one day you can branch out further than Vegas!!!! Keep it up 👍🏼
need body armor and gun if ur going to hang out downtown reno
Wow, he missed the best parts of the city.
What are some of the best spots I should check out next time I’m in Reno?!
@@Pompsie come post pandemic, checkout lake tahoe, the truckee river, the gsr, the atlantis, and the peppermill, there’s a fantastic underground local music scene, hot august nights (one of the biggest classic car show in the usa), the rib cook off, and there tons of other layers to it that i’m still discovering in my 16 years of living here
@@Pompsie Reno is about the outdoors! We have so many hiking and Jeep trails... summer activities are awesome. We also have some of the best fishing!
Even the simple river walk is nice af. If you go in the summer you need to float the river from Mayberry park to downtown. There’s a lot of shit to do in Reno, just not atm (COVID)
What are the best parts? Never been, would like to.
The show Reno 911 is accurate. I'm from here so that show has always hit me right in the funny bone! 🤣🤣🤣
I thought that show was parody, then I moved to Reno. It’s a legit documentary.
It wasn't filmed in Reno. It was filmed in california.
@@alyxandramadesh Indeed it was but still, Reno really be looking like that sometimes, 4th street ecspecially.
That's fair, I was actually really bummed to learn it wasn't filmed in Reno. I watched it when I was young, young and thought about rewatching it since I've lived here for a few years. Maybe I would recognize some of the spots. I now have a saying, "fucking Reno, man.." when I see weird stuff.
@@alyxandramadesh Yeah I for sure say that at least 4 times a week lol Haven't seen a real life officer Dangle yet but I'm sure he's out there!
Reno can’t touch Vegas in any way, HOWEVER, the mountains, Truckee River, and the outdoor opportunities are pretty great.
Reno's got a lot on Vegas
We moved to Reno 3 years ago from fort myers Florida,(to get back to seasons ) and really love Reno . The people are great and lots to see and do. We call Reno home now .
I lived in Reno for 8 years and had two of my children here , all 6 of my kids lived in Reno , we loved living there
Oh, I forgot, I went to Lake Tahoe when I was in Reno. The lake is beautiful. However, I think Reno is really more about the outdoors activities like hanging at the lake, hiking, and then going to the mountains for the snow and skiing. That is better than the Casinos.
I live in Reno and I'm surprised on how fast this video is growing

Eddie’s Fabulous 50’s was such a fun place!! Nice to see someone else remember it. Hard to believe that place is still empty after all these years.
Shoutout for Eddie's! Best cheese dogs I've ever had!
Yeah. Those were good time. The diner inside the little nugget is gone....no more awful awful burgers
I was at Eddie's in 1989. Fun place. Met a very friendly waitress named Darlene.
You seriously have never seen Sister Act? It's a must see movie.
He never even mentioned Kingpin, the whole movie was the trip to the National Bowling Center in Reno lol
Of course he would say "its small"... He barley went anywhere....
Yeah Reno is a mid-size city I think, this idiot barely saw anything over 500,000 live here and growing. He didn't even go to Lake Tahoe. The video made it seem like all there was is just a few hotels and a run down downtown.
@@famousramus2288 lake Tahoe is not Reno. Sorry you're butthurt but reno blows.
❤️❤️❤️The music Pompsie
I'm in the video!! The white guy next to the rapper's who I pissed of and was like sorry to bust your hustle .hahah
Lived in downtown during the early 2000s, my favorite thing was to leave the club drunk at 5 am, take the parking elevator to the top of El Dorado to smoke weed to then head down to eat a greasy burger at a hole in the wall joint where I'd get the Awful Awful and basket of fries. To then stumble home nearby on 11th street. Wonderful memories =)

If you can’t understand the Italian influence on Casino decor might I suggest a screening of the movie Casino. It’ll explain it to you.
Haha I catch your drift
Scorsese is my favorite 🤩
Has nothing to do with the movie Casino. That movie was based on 1980s Las Vegas
@@weirdshibainu First things first, he says he notices an Italian influence in casinos, not just in Reno, but everywhere he goes. So why is that? Yeah, the movie Casino is set in Vegas, but do you think that’s the only place where the mafia had an influence on casinos? BTW, as a side note a good amount of the interiors for the movie Casino was filmed in Reno.
@@dougtube9870 Its a false narrative that somehow the mafia influenced the architecture for casinos and there was little mob influence in Reno. We also have modern styles casinos. He saw about 1 percent of reno....and who gives a fuck where Casino was filmed?
Somebody is visiting Las Vegas for the 1st time, and their first thought is going to the Stratosphere in the DAYTIME to see a view of the Strip??
Why didn't you book a room on Fremont St, and complain it doesn't have the same vibe as the Strip?
You're from Tonopah and your vacation to see what's shakin' in Pahrump or Hawthorne??
Were you disappointed in Reno because it doesn't have as many homeless as Vegas, or a N. Las Vegas area??
You didn’t even go to Tahoe or any place else! Also in summer there is so much more going on!
You really do a nice job with your videos, keep it up!
Used to live in Reno. Man. Maybe I can show you around next time. Love that place and miss the crap out of it. Part of this was also the fact that it was after Covid BS and a lot of it was closed down and not back up 100%. Reno is Amazing. Living in Vegas. Cannot wait to move back up north.
I've been to Reno once I Loved it. Hopefully I can go back to visit.
If you are staying in Reno DONT stay at Silver Legacy. It's like the sleaziest of all the casino/resorts. Stay at Peppermill, GSR or Atlantis
The Silver Legacy has the biggest, best guest rooms.
His editing skillzzzzz are on lock!! Damn sick! Music choice is pimp!!
I thought so also. Boomerlisous
I just moved to Reno in September when you came it was so shitty because of Covid but now it’s a total different experience everything is open and populated please return I will show you the best spots
