I currently live in Reno and the downtown area is old and really outdated. The real action has moved away from there and is now at the Atlantis, Grand Sierra Resort, Nugget, and Pepper Mill. Which are all modern and completely different from old Reno. Huge influx of refugees from California (including me) that moved away from crime ridden So Cal. and Bay area because South Reno is actually a desirable place to raise a family. No smog, pollution, or gang shootings like in Oakland for example. Most every strip mall, apartment complex, and housing track has been built since 2000. Especially in South Reno where most everything is 15-20 years old and buildings have fresh graffiti free exteriors. I'm a big Leo fan, next time film by UNR and other places away from the downtown area to get a full picture of Reno.
S. Reno is a predictable boring American suburb with no energy. It's the every day Joe place to raise a so called family as dull aand dimwitted as every other US suburb. The city has no center no heart,
Seeing is believing, but I'm STILL in disbelief! This is unimaginable. Sci-fi writer Arthur C. Clarke in 1964 predicted the end of cities in the 21st Century. It's really happening! Keep documenting, Leo.
Watching Metal Leo’s vid on dilapidated Reno NV, I googled what happened to Reno. Google replied “Reno residents moved to its suburbs buying online and shops banks and restaurants moved with them”. Reno is now a ghost of itself with a significant homeless population, how sad. I think that author is right cities are becoming obsolete.
In the area where I grew up, shopping centers popped up in the '50s. Photos of that time verify their popularity. In 1964, a building undergoing renovation in that city collapsed. Nothing was put in its place except a parking lot. All the business buildings were built by the owners of those businesses. But, after 1964, nothing else was built like they once were. Mr. Clarke was definitely correct.
This is a direct result of two factors , the legalization of gambling in California on Native American land and the pandemic was the final nail in the coffin. Another great report Leo. Thanks for sharing !
Agreed, why bother to travel to downtown Reno when you can gamble in CA. Cov*d didn't help, it was a ghost city in Reno during that time until they opened the casinos again in the summer.
If you've ever wondered what it's like to live in a third-world country with no jobs, food, housing, money, or future, don't worry-you'll have a great chance to experience it firsthand while staying in the USA!
Guess you haven't been to Vancouver Canada. And most of Canadian cities. Trudeau has spent the last 8 years creating a 3rd world for all Canadians to enjoy.
It looks like paradise compared to most of the other cities Leo visits. Not much in the way of tagging or bums. Harrah's Reno got shut down at the start of the pandemic and never reopened. The hotel was build from the late 1960's to early 1980's (in parts) and is pretty limited in its design in spite of remodeling over the years. It was supposed to be torn down and replaced with a hotel + condos in 2023 but ran into red tape and got delayed, causing the project to go bankrupt when it lost funding. They will get it figured out sooner than later.
Yes it seems they have some civic pride and hope for a revival, maybe the city managers are trying to keep it presentable but of course it’s really getting too empty… let’s hope they can reinvent. Another CoVid casualty. The Reno area geography is beautiful and taxes lower than CA. They will move beyond their gambling past eventually.
I LOVE Harrah's Lake Tahoe❕ They used to make the BEST Turkey Sandwich w/whole berry cranberry sauce. Yum. Now I'm craving one. LOL Did the Tahoe Harrah's close down too? Been awhile since I was down there. Used to ski there in the Winter and ride my motorcycle down there in the Summer. Ahhh... Those were the Good Ol' Days. When my Mom was still alive she would always tell me: "You can never go back." She was right. 😢
@@nobodynothing1469sad all these jobs gone but our government tells us we have a Good economy. Maybe Trump can make America great again time will tell. 😂
This is the immediate downtown. It scheduled for eventual updates. The majority of the surrounding city is thriving. The Police still enforce the laws and keep the area safe and relatively clean compared to California. I have family that works in the Reno Police Department. They still patrol and enforce the laws. This is a concentrated video of the outdated old downtown hotels will eventually be demolished. Reno is still a nice City. Notice the lack of rows of homeless, drug addicts, and filth.
All fine and dandy, there still is the problem that made all those businesses go out after decades of being open . The country is done in a whole , and financially in the HOLE .
@@mason5540 That was supposed to have stopped years ago. CA Attorney General reached a settlement agreement because cities in Nevada were illegally dumping their mentally ill and homeless people on cities in California. Why should California be on the receiving end for other states' problems.
Yah, the last time I was there too. LOL In 1977 I was playing stupid blackjack and slots, lost $20 at all 10 casinos. That was near 10 days wages. I never did win a dime in north Nevada. Did OK in Vegas. I was last in Vegas in 2019. It's getting dumpy as well now with implosions and many others getting old. $300+ a night is nuts.
Unlike other places LEO goes, it’s only downtown that’s meh. It’s busy and thriving everywhere else. It’s better than San Francisco, where we used to live!
@@firestick4991 Everything is better than San Francisco, these days so it isn't saying much. Midtown is pretty lame with mostly closed shops, dying malls and no real city amenities.
Think of how many employees were needed at each casino - housekeeping, security, dealers, food service.... So many jobs lost each time one closes. Must be like a downward spiral.
The rest of the city is thriving. Just look at housing prices here. Tons of growth in all directions and industries, but the Old downtown core isnt great.
Cal neva Was the only casino I would go to when I went to Reno years ago. There's no need to go up there now because everybody has a casino 15 minutes from where they live now.
It's always interesting to look at a city like this, and consider "who runs this town". The people that run these declining cities must be on good salaries, live in nice houses, drive nice cars, probably don't have to worry about cost of living, The Mayor is Hillary Schieve (since 2014) - supposedly an Independent, but really a hyper liberal Democrat. Socialist policies, massive overspending of tax $$$. At one time replaced the US flag with the "Rainbow Flag". She's in until 2026, just enough time to completely wreck everything.....
The city just knocked down another major historic building for some nonsense. The town is run by a bunch of hillbillies and burning man bros with no real vision.
I lived in Reno in 2019 till 2020 and Reno was popping!! Anything and everything that you wanted legally and illegally you could find right where you're showing. That downtown was hustling and bustling like a little Times Square.....
Agreed, downtown area is old and run down, no one really visits there because here's the secret, everything has moved to center city and south Reno. The GSR, Atlantis, Nugget, and Pepper Mill are where people go now because its new and modern. I moved to Reno from Socal to get away from the crime and homelessness that plagues the uncollected trash filled streets of California, where I was born and saw deteriorate way worse than anything old downtown Reno has to offer. Hopefully this video will prevent more out of state refugees seeking residence here and further raising home prices. Fingers crossed
Reno was awesome, but everything worthwhile west of the Mississippi is just dying. One of the highlights of riding rickety Amtrack is Reno to and from Commiefornia
Reno's downfall began with the California Indian Casinos, then Real Estate Speculation in late 90's and late 2010's. The worst thing about Reno now is the people who moved from California and decided they wanted it to be more like California Socially and Politically. That is who runs Reno now.
That's because the people of California are spreading Gavin newsom's tentacles in every other state and it's spreading like cancer like there's no tomorrow wait until he tries to become president of the United States then it really will be a third world nation on this planet so in other words here is my message do not I repeat do not vote for Gavin Newsom for president in 2028 if you do be prepared for the worst.

I'm going to reply with my standard GFY for people from other states complaining about californians moving in. I guess you should have given a fuck that your congressmen were allowing out of control immigration to my state for 40 years and ruining it. Guess how much I care what you think?
Downtown Reno was suffering from crime and homelessness for a while which is probably what drove away the guests, and ultimately the casinos itself. Plus there's a ton of casinos in California now and Californians probably made up 75% of downtown Reno's revenue back then.
Well, the TRIBE part you got correct. 360,000 jobless claims last week? Don't forget, those coming off of unemployment are not included in these figures... and guess for how long. HOARDS, HOARDS, HOARDS. YOU are likely part of the "tribe"
I was thinking about you last night wondering if the fires in California affected you. Ive been shocked the past few days, It's really unbelievable! Stay safe out there ❤
fires are end times events not science like the wars over sea in Europe and east side of the world there is more coming in the years ahead the whole west coast of the usa will eventually have little to no Forrest left
15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1
I think the fires might be a sign that the US unsustainable "car and suburb" lifestyle is coming to a close. The US over time will not be able to keep up the infrastructure for this (endless roads and other infra like pipes), it's too expensive, and actually inefficient too. You should look more into how Europe builds both PT and plans things in general, Europe plans so it's possible to live without a car, well at least in the cities and near them. And Europe plans with walkability and biking in mind also. And efficient city-to-city solutions, often trains.
The Eaton fire started across the street, just 1000' away from my Aunt's beautiful Tudor Mansion. She's lived in that house for almost 70 years. 5 (so far) are reported dead in Altadena. I havent been able to reach my Aunt (I'm in Washington State). Reports say that fire literally "exploded" in the middle of the night, giving residents almost zero warning to escape. I hope my Aunt was able to get out alive... 😢
Reno is actually thriving and growing. However, that part of town (old Reno) is outdated and not as popular as it used to be. But the casinos still get jammed on the weekends. The rest of Reno is amazing and casinos like the Peppermill, the Atlantis, and GSR are in other areas of the city and they are very busy all the time. Reno is awesome (just not the old downtown area).
Actually Harrahs was owned by Ceasars, when Eldorado bought Ceasars they sold the Reno Harrahs because they already own the 3 major casinos across the street from it. It didn't close due to lack of business. A development company bought and were in the process of turning it into apartments and retail. That company went bankrupt and now the project is stopped and it's an eyesore.
Reno in the 1960’s-totally rockin’! Open all night-sidewalks jammed with people, all having a great time. Harold’s Club and the Primadonnna were the funest places.😊
That is the Peppermill. Not the Pepper Mill. Started as a Coffee Shop. I worked there for 9 years before the latest growth explosion. Reno National bank was part of Harrah's (Hare-ahs, not Harr-ahs per Nevada pronunciation. I worked there before the parking garage and second tower as a Parking Attendant when RollsRoyces were common there, since Bill Harrah had the dealership. He drove a Jeep with a Ferrari Engine from Tahoe to Reno in minutes
Just downtown. Everywhere else is thriving and busy. All the locals know it’s meh, downtown. 2020 did it in. But it was barely holding on before the mostly peaceful summer of 2020.
Reno is bigger than ever, but the 5 streets he walked downtown Have seen better days. Most of the city is growing like crazy with new building everywhere
Harrahs was my go to place in the late 90s . Every time they renovated, it got worse. They needed a new manager that could see where the money was being made. I loved playing the poker machines on the skyway and then poof they were gone. They took out all the good machines and it became a ghost town. Peppermill and Atlantis have taken over!
About two months ago me and my wife decided to drive through downtown Reno on our way back from lake Tahoe, just to check out the city, as we've heard about it and decided to stop by for coffee or something. It was Saturday, and it was eery, empty, and kinda scary with homeless-like people roaming streets, my wife was actually afraid to get out of the car, so we circled around and went on our way. It was a very strange feeling about this city......
I’ve been here since 87 and I saw all of it when it was all open. I actually did all the tile in the bank you saw at Harahs I did a ton of tile work in there. I did all the granite at the cal Neva bar too. It used to be really fun back in the day. Spent a few times of my youth gambling at harahs. Things have been closed for years and years now. It’s weird
The current American wallet can't afford $20 min tables. Reno and Carson City are now retiree towns. The Tesla battery plant is a great employer, but the gambling enterprises are done as you point out. The last time we were in Reno we stayed at the Silver Legacy. I crossed the street to McDonald's for a burger. It smelled of urine with heroin (or meth) addicts stuffed into the dining section. Never again. Thanks for the effort here, Leo.
Indian Casinos killed Reno. Pre-Indian Casinos. It was the place to be. Now Reno is only great when there are special events like Hot August Nights, BBq Cookoff. Etc but still there rules in gambling are still better than Indian rules.
This is insane to see it in that current shape, I used to go to hot August nights every year, I have family in Carson City, Nevada. I never thought I would see that city look like that..
Who would consider opening a business in downtown Reno? Those empty buildings will sit empty forever. The many Tribal Casinos that have opened in many if not most states never existed years ago. They have killed many of the Nevada casinos especially in Reno. Reno has been hurting for any years but now they are dead!
I visited Reno two years ago. Was very impressed with the cleanliness, and variety of businesses. Motorcycle, and gun stores with all the goodies, along with casinos selling steak dinners at a bargain. Peaceful, with nice fresh air. I would totally live there.
what this video doesnt show you, is how the other 99% of the city is doing, and its building like crazy. the old downtown core is not so great, but literally the rest of the city is expanding and thriving.
...good vid. How things have changed. I used to go to Reno in the 70's...went to a casino bar called "Primadona...!!!..yes,..it was busy back then but no more..i doubt if downtown ever gets going again... not like it was..also, the little bridge at18.32 is famous for people throw their wedding rings in after a divorce...wonder if any body dove for them??? LOL...
“Goooone!! 😂” Yes it’s pretty sad to see once a vibrant city reduced to boarded up barriers. Especially along Virginia Street. Now when I go to Reno I stay at GSR because they have so much to do there inside there’s no need to leave the casino/hotel. Plus, there’s a Super Walmart right next door. You can buy whatever snacks, drinks, groceries, and clothing you need before you enter GSR.
I live in south Reno. It’s great. Downtown is being bought up for new companies to begin gentrification. This has been going on for 3 years. Shutting down old stuff and rebuilding. J resort is a good example. Travel outside of the worst 8 blocks of downtown.
Was fortunate to grow up 70s - 90s in Reno Tahoe Carson area. All businesses were open and thriving. Circus Circus had live acrobatics and trapeze, The Nugget had Bertha and Tina, MGM had a lion, and most casinos had a theater show. Ponderosa Ranch was even booming. Best hotels and casinos are Atlantis, Peppermill, and GSR.
I remember those acrobatic shows at Circus Circus. If I remember correctly, I think they did them every hour? Since you grew up there, do you know a guy named Jim Dougherty? He was a cop for the Reno Police Dept. He's my age (I'm 61). We met YEARS AGO on New Years Eve in Hawaii on Waikiki Beach. After getting home, I drove to Reno (from Washington State) to visit. We eventually lost contact. I often wonder how he's doing and what he's up to now. It's been so long, he probably doesn't even remember me...
The thing is Reno just a sad city, but you can’t just say everything is gone because it’s getting bigger and better. You know you you know what happens is what happens
I came to Reno in the late 90s. Has seen its ups & downs. The main problem is that the rents are so outrageous most people cannot survive on casino wages. Now the filthy rich people coming to Reno with their politics, their snobby ideals & their new creations have led people to move away from Reno. I go to Reno about once a month. Shopping at grocery stores like Winco & Sprouts which is much cheaper than Whole Foods. I couldn't afford the rents if I stayed there. My apartment was $495 in 2013. Now its around $1500 month. But the apts all have fire places in each place on the second & first levels. Cats are allowed but no BBQs unless you BBQ on the street level. Unless the managers were pressured to change those rules. No sat discs allowed either. Has to be internally for cable & computer service.
Reno is what Las Vegas, NV will become in the future. A microcosm of the macro. I drove through there summer 1991 and Reno was booming! Thanks for covering what has happened to Reno, Leo.
@@MichaelInTheDesert I think he’s being facetious… Las Vegas is thriving now, but for how long? I used to live there for a few years. So glad I moved. Larger cities have fallen…once the water is gone and people have no disposable money to give to the one armed bandits… Entertainment industry has kept it afloat for a while, but how long?
I'm happy I'm old enough to have seen a lot of places back in the "old days" as a kid. We went around southern Cali (San Diego in particular) a few times on vacation, and back home in Chicago it was amazing to wander downtown during Christmas and see all the lights/people/shops. Sad that in only 50 years so many places look like ghost towns, so many people post about living in the areas you visit and they mention all the places they had great memories at, all gone now. Nowadays I live in a smallish town, and so far businesses are still up and running, but the number of "Mom & Pop" places I grew up seeing are almost all gone in the big cities. Be safe brother, stay out of L.A. until the smoke clears and here's hoping the fatalities stay low, it's enough of a disaster without people losing their lives along with their homes.
I love an hour or so from Reno in the California mountains and go there to shop sometimes. True, the old downtown is beat, but there is a fair bit of economic activity elsewhere in the city.
At least it doesn't seem to be as nasty as Oakland, etc. I'm just shocked though at how empty it is. It was a clean city. Like you, my last trip there was maybe 2000, but wow, just stunned.
@paulvon2378 "Only downtown" 😂😂- why else would anyone who doesn't live there go if there's no downtown? That WAS your attraction. Lol Does Reno not need tourist dollars anymore??
This is not giving the whole story. This is just part of the downtown area. The rest of Reno is thriving and same crowds of people. I’m sure they will start demolishing these dilapidated bldgs. and begin new construction. Reno is actually thriving
The reason people used to go to Reno, as opposed to Vegas, was that it was the cheaper alternative. Well with casino gambling, and sports betting available in virtually every state now, there isn't any reason to go to Reno anymore for the budget conscious gambler. They can just stay home, and gamble in their own state, or their own living room. It's the same thing that happened to Atlantic City, and it's what could happen to Vegas if they don't seriously diversify their economy. I went to Reno in the late 90's, and even then it was just a few casinos and a bajillion pawn shops. Can't say as I am terribly surprised to see what's become of it.
A lot of problems contributed to the demise of downtown. The buildings are old and can't be renovated or even torn down due to asbestos. It's a hazmat situation. It's cheaper to rebuild elsewhere. A lot of business has moved to other areas like sparks and south reno. Our mayor has done a lousy job at renovating downtown.
Wow thats crazy. It was a hopping place. My band played at the CAL NEVA CASINO new years eve 2009 to 2010. Its a mess everywhere. America is being destroyed on purpose. 😮
Caesars did not want to keep that Harrah's Reno property (too old too much to get fully renovated.) when Caesars merger happened back in 2020. Lack of good paying jobs for the cost of living here is also a problem.
In the 90s I lived in the Bay area, went to Reno all the time. It's all so weird Leo. It is all gone. I hope one day it all comes back. Harras had the best biscuits and gravy but it's gone now! 🍪 Keep up the great vids bud!
Dear Leo, I was thinking about you over the last 2 days as LA burned. Just like everything else you have so excellently documented, this was preventable. Never should have happened. Hope to speak to you one day.
@LeoMetalTraveler yes Sir it is. Large sections of LA will never return now. Of course, the high Santa Ana winds were not under anyone's control, but all the rest was. So many, including the governor and mayor, at the very least, should resign. My husband felt stronger that some of what occurred was criminal. Again, I can't thank you enough. I bet you haven't thought you were doing God's work, but I think you are. I will subscribe to you, but we have a child in college and funds are extremely tight. You do mean a lot to us.
Harrahs was the loosest and best casino in NV. It was closed due to a corrupt real estate deal and it was a huge mistake to close it. Original Harrahs btw
How sad. I can't believe it looks like this now. I feel I was here about 5 years ago, and everything was open. Thank God Vegas is not terribly far away. That's where the real action is.
I'm shocked at the devastation we allowed our government to create with their crazy idea of how to treat a flu virous. We used to drive up to Tahoe / Reno from the Bay Area. Not to gamble although that happened, but just to hang out in a different neighborhood. The Truckee River was always cool to hang around. I'd never imagined Reno without pedestrians crowding the streets and traffic everywhere. One thing I've noticed in your walk through was the absence of tents. At least they got that right so far.
The Nugget had a diner that served their well known Awful Awful hamburgers. Shut down during the 2020 pandemic. The McDonald's across Virginia street from the El Dorado and the vintage Dairy Queen across from The Circus Circus also closed. The Fitzgerald's, Golden Phoenix/Flamingo Hilton Reno, The Virginian, and Harold's Club casinos/hotels...Gone Now. The Mapes Hotel/Casino demolished. The train tracks were moved under street level ("The Reno Trench") so at least things were quieter. The Pandemic made most of the businesses and casinos go Gone Now. I guess the Hot August Nights events are still well attended. I think the Bowling Stadium is still a popular attraction.
California casinos killed Reno Nevada, when California allowed casinos in the state it was the end for RENO, I have nice memories of that city, that is the place I got married to my wife 30 years ago, sad to see most of hotel and business closed
Arson. The democrat tabloid reporters, uh, I mean media on MSNBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, say over and over how BAD the rich are. So then a democrat will go out and light fires. The weak minded people, now filled with hate, will do this, 64% of the voters in LA voted for Kamala. Biological Leninism.
Im from the bay area California, we used to party and suddenly get in the car and drive to reno and gamble and party more. Sleep in the car and drive back in the next morning. Great memories, sad to see this video

Reno was it during the early 70's got jobs left and right. Worked for Greyhound lines across Harrahs at Vrginia St. Everything was humming, got transferred to California and by the late 80's early nineties Indan casinos started popping all over the Calfornia. We used to run Reno buses that makes a turn around everyday and filled each buses daily. Then by year 2000 California casinos begun looking like a real one with slots and buffet with hotel accomodations and that spelled doom for my beloved city Reno. Currently Atlantis and Peppermill are thriving on a strip that they want to transform like Las Vegas, but kinda slow in coming. "LET''S GO RENO" . 2-3 hours drive means having a good time nearby. Las Vegas is ok with flight fares down to $20-25 one way with Spirit airlines or Frontier but in Reno there's more things to be done if you like to camp out or ski via South Lake Tahoe.
It had slipped my mind that Harrah's closed in 2020. To me, that's the death knell for downtown. Hasn't been the same since Eddie's Fabulous 50's closed.
Reno closed a lot of casinos because now people go to Indian Gambling casinos. I know I live an hour from there just make sure you're telling the truth. There was a time when everything happened in Reno or Lake Tahoe it's where we went to see Frank Sinatra the big stars but the game changed.
That Reno Bank was last known to be part of Harrah's front entrance. I always loved gambling there. won a few jackpots there. My most memorable time there was always getting free show tickets to their Sammy Davis Jr room to watch nightly shows there. Complimentary show tickets all the time just for gambling in their casino and a complimentary beer at the showroom too.
Reno and sparks are actually growing and booming. The Reno scene is moving away from the downtown casinos. You should have just gone down the street to mid town and enjoyed Reno.
This reminds me of my trip to Niagara Falls, NY back around 2008. You could see it was once thriving, but was so much boarded up and desolate. It was sad, like I could hear the echos of what had been. Thank you to our dear creator for letting us know how things are going… going, going, gone! ❤
Thanks for showcasing this once famous city. Kinda sad to see it fading away, but I guess we can now have almost as much “fun” from the comfort of our own homes thanks to computer technology. Appreciate your videos that focus on the current transition much of country is going through.
You wouldn't happen to know a guy named Jim Dougherty would you? He was a Reno Cop. Probably retired by now. We met years ago in Hawaii. Tried to do the "long distance dating" thing but that got old quick (I live in Washington State).
I lived in Sparks as a kid, and Dad worked in downtown Reno as a banker. It was always clean and busy downtown, and I enjoyed many performances at the civic center. I have visited infrequently, but in 2016, I stayed downtown and it still looked good. We were there to enjoy the air races, but now I understand they have gone elsewhere. The state has LOTS of warehousing businesses, which we noted driving into town, so while they probably are trying to diversify, they probably need a lot more businesses with good jobs for the citizens.

I was a security manager at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe and remember 6 years ago going to Reno for training. It was still vibrant then. Wow 😢
Now is gone
Gone now! Hahaha
I LOVE Harrah's Lake Tahoe❕
They used to make the BEST Turkey Sandwich w/whole berry cranberry sauce. Yum. Now I'm craving one. LOL
Did the Tahoe Harrah's close down too?
Been awhile since I was down there.
Used to ski there in the Winter and ride my motorcycle down there in the Summer.

Where do the homeless people in Reno go?
Ya lost me at "I have family in the police force....." 😛😛😛😛😛😛
All fine and dandy, there still is the problem that made all those businesses go out after decades of being open . The country is done in a whole , and financially in the HOLE .

That was supposed to have stopped years ago. CA Attorney General reached a settlement agreement because cities in Nevada were illegally dumping their mentally ill and homeless people on cities in California. Why should California be on the receiving end for other states' problems.
Back in the 80's I went to Reno and toured Harrah's. They had spectacular automobile and firearms collections.
That's too bad, years ago Reno was really turning around. Gambling cant be the only source of a cities revenue. You need to invest in more industries.

Yeah I got a casino on my phone no need for me ever to go to some casino across the country lol
What industrys?
Wow i haven't been back in a while. Thank you for sharing your video.
Those employees moved to California indian casinos.

I live here, but never knew that downtown is empty.
Noteworthy comment!
Not surprising at all

Question: can you give us examples of cities run by conservative Republicans that are astonishingly successful and prosperous?
I lived in Reno in 2019 till 2020 and Reno was popping!! Anything and everything that you wanted legally and illegally you could find right where you're showing. That downtown was hustling and bustling like a little Times Square.....
Man. 20 yrs ago. My first time at Reno blew my mind. So sad it is like this
It’s just downtown. Everywhere else is thriving.

The same thing that happened to Memphis Tenn

I remember all the crowds that used to go to Reno. All the Indian Casinos (in California) have taken all the $$$! Thank you for your videos Metal Leo!

Well, the TRIBE part you got correct. 360,000 jobless claims last week? Don't forget, those coming off of unemployment are not included in these figures... and guess for how long. HOARDS, HOARDS, HOARDS. YOU are likely part of the "tribe"
@LeoMetalTraveler he lost that bet. Gooooone. 😆 🤣

The crowds moved to other places in Reno. Mostly Legends and The Summit. Or Virginia City.
I was thinking about you last night wondering if the fires in California affected you. Ive been shocked the past few days, It's really unbelievable! Stay safe out there ❤
I was also thinking about Leo, I prefer him to cover the situation over there than the mainstream media.
Thanks for thinking of me, I’m far away from the fires. I’m safe. I’m in Reno Nevada, but my thoughts are with the people of LA in these hard moments
fires are end times events not science like the wars over sea in Europe and east side of the world there is more coming in the years ahead the whole west coast of the usa will eventually have little to no Forrest left
Thanks for letting us know, this video makes it look pretty bad.
This is true. I lived there. You can’t judge the Reno/Sparks area by the old downtown area.
I am sure the loss of the air races didnt help AT ALL!!
We moved here from San Francisco! It’s a big improvement! Go to Legends, the casinos away from downtown, or Virginia City. Carson and Tahoe!
Yeah, but downtown was the fun part of the city not the outskirts, it was the heart and soul of Reno
Money scam
With all the businesses closed I thought Reno would be a nice place to rent a home cheap, but boy was I wrong.
7:57 $350 weekly hotel rent is not that high by U$ inflated standards.
Can you share some of your findings? I'm curious.
When we were young in 1998 we used to all come up from the bay area for Hot August nites

Peppermill and Atlantis have taken over!
you know the economy is bad when the casino closes!
Exactly
Probably because there is a lot of online gambling.

Indian Casinos killed Reno. Pre-Indian Casinos. It was the place to be. Now Reno is only great when there are special events like Hot August Nights, BBq Cookoff. Etc but still there rules in gambling are still better than Indian rules.
What killed Reno is the advent of Indian gaming in California. That has taken at least 80% of Reno's business.

Indian Casinos in CA started all this.... should have kept gambling in NV
Reno is what Las Vegas, NV will become in the future. A microcosm of the macro.

Plus you had Tahoe and the mountains. That was appealing to a lot of people.
@OspreyFlyer Tahoe offered more than just gambling for tourists though. Other than gambling, Reno was never a tourist destination.
The big six of Las Vegas won’t let that happen for sure.
Sad, I use to really enjoy visiting downtown Reno 20-25 years back. To me it use to be the best place to gamble, eat and stay for cheap!

It's a shame, isn't it?
@LeoMetalTraveler yes Sir it is. Large sections of LA will never return now. Of course, the high Santa Ana winds were not under anyone's control, but all the rest was. Harrahs was the loosest and best casino in NV. It was closed due to a corrupt real estate deal and it was a huge mistake to close it. Original Harrahs btw

It’s just downtown. All the off strip casinos are busy. Legends, Virginia City, Tahoe are still busy.

The Nugget had a diner that served their well known Awful Awful hamburgers. Shut down during the 2020 pandemic.

SAD …Those casinos and hotels are closed …
When my kid was at Reno University in 2012 it was a great place to be …
Reno closed a lot of casinos because now people go to Indian Gambling casinos.
I thought Reno would be bumping but it’s just as dead as it is here. Geez.
I think it’s even worse than here, but at least brewhouse venue for shows still open
Wow I used to live there for a good long while and I can't believe what's happening on the West Coast.
It’s something else out here
@LeoMetalTraveler i really appreciate your videos. It keeps me informed about how it's really going over there.
God bless you Metal Leo...I live in Reno and I am so Thankful you are here.❤
You wouldn't happen to know a guy named Jim Dougherty would you?
He was a Reno Cop. Probably retired by now.
We met years ago in Hawaii.
Tried to do the "long distance dating" thing but that got old quick (I live in Washington State).
. .we used yo say""" your a real gone cat"
The state has LOTS of warehousing businesses, which we noted driving into town, so while they probably are trying to diversify, they probably need a lot more businesses with good jobs for the citizens.
better than SF, not a bunch of trash and people sleeping on the steps of buildings.
