I really find videos like this refreshing. As a Black person I'm around so many other Black people lamenting the state of their lives and blaming it on some external (white) source. I like to operate with this doctrine when the matter of a rough past or a tough situation in my life comes up "No one is going to help you because no one cares". It recontextualizes your life in a way where you know it's up to you and only you to solve your problems and improve your living conditions. So you don't sit around feeling sorry for yourself while nothing changes.

    • @Wolf-ln1ml
      @Wolf-ln1ml 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah, I can understand both viewpoints/approaches, but I also see all too likely problems with both, at least in the long run. Most societies now _try_ to improve the situations of people who start off worse for some reasonor other, but in pretty much all cases, it's a work in progress, _and_ it takes actual generations to take effect. So when someone is _completely_ going with the "I have to do it all myself" mindset, of course they'll have a better chance of actually doing better - but they're also far more likely to be against stuff like government programs to help out people who start off under worse conditions.
On the other hand, when someone relies too much on the help of society, you get the "but my group has been oppressed, so now you all have to feed me through" whiners with their victim mentality...
I'd say a middle ground, leaning more one side or the other depending on how much effort that society is actually putting into equalizing the "starting conditions", is the best way to go, ideally always with the goal of improving the _overall_ situation. But that requires a sense of nuance, something I fear has been "trained out" of far too many people in the USA, and not just becaus eit's French...

    • @blues4509
      @blues4509 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@Wolf-ln1ml well yeah, I think the government is inadequate as a whole, they misuse billions of dollars a year and you and I have little to no power in changing that. Taxes are way too high for incredibly inefficient programs. I digress though, I think the best thing to do is to minimize government interference as much as possible to the point where people voting for policies, programs, tax rates etc for their local area is actually effective. Regardless I don't see the issue with people not wanting to involuntarily have their money go towards programs they don't want them to, it is their money after all. Since what's to stop people that actually do want to facilitate these programs from reaching into their own pockets and doing it with their own money? It's essentially forcing people to support programs that you, yourself (not saying you specifically), find value in when you can support it yourself and with likeminded individuals. I think the nuance of the matter ultimately comes down to voluntarism.

Well, I do. I don't want any of my money to go into the infrastructure-rebuild in the Aar-valley here in Germany (where that flood was a couple of years ago) for example. But it's going there anyway. In return, people from there certainly aren't happy that their tax money went into strengthening the dams against the North Sea recently - which is what _I_ profited from.
In both cases, if the funds had been held back for something that the people locally wanted them to be used for, neither would have gotten the help they needed *_when they needed it._*
That's of course not a perfect example, I'm sure one could find a way to make it work somehow - but that would certainly require a good bit of additional bureaucracy, which would _also_ be quite a waste of resources.
I could certainly come up with plenty more examples, but I hope my point is getting across with this one already.
There is also another argument: We are a social species. How about you show some social responsibility, maybe even compassion? And I mean for more than just your direct neighbors, but for your entire society?

As a pasty wHite dude who grew up in a lower middle class neighborhood and went to alright schools, phrases like “white privilege” never crossed my mind throughout my school years until I was on the internet.
Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t living like Kenny from South Park eating pop tarts but there were times where it was pretty bad, there were times where me and my dad were forced to move and live at other people’s house constantly moving from place to place it was bad, and I was lucky to land on my feet.
What I’m saying is, I grew up broke and I grew up broke around other broke kids (like I said it wasn’t like Kenny from South Park bad but there were rough times) I went to school with many different types of kids, black, white, mexican (especially Mexican),Asian, and even Indian.
I also had a lot different types of friends with different races and we would say the most messed up and racist jokes to each other that would get us banned and cancelled immediately. My point is even though we looked different we could bond over the fact that we were broke ass kids with broke ass parents and that kinda brought us together.
People like FD Signifier and Dr Umar (and Noah Samsen) live in this reality where race issues are just as bad as they were half a century ago (and I’m not saying it’s perfect like I said I grew up in the south and I’ve seen actual racist still around), but I feel like especially these days we are more divided by class then we are by race so trying to see everything threw race is unproductive and it only divides us as a country.
PS:it’s funny how both of these two constantly go on advocating for black issues and the struggles that the black community go through are so quick to call anyone who disagrees or criticizes them or even offers well rounded advice for black people an “Uncle Tom” or a “Coon”

It's impossible to say if we truly are more divided amongst class than race.
But I will say, it's a lot easier to relate to others through class than race, and that's why the focus should be there. Ivy League blacks and whites with primo education write the rules while people just trying to get by just try to get by.

And because I sound white online i have had to bare witness to some of the most heinous shit ever said to other black people in the lobby.
White privilege isn't about money. It's about the way your able to move through the world with ease.
When your black one of the first things you ever get taught is how the police will kill you if you do the wrong thing. That you have to work twice as hard to get an even shake.
We have to get taught this to live safely through the world.
My first racist experience was on new years. Where a cop pulled over my dad for no reason. And actively question who we were and where we were going because we were in a pretty white area for fireworks show.

Also with that said, I actually do agree with the point he speaks around 17:18. I was the only black student at school for the majority of my education. Every now and then another would pop up until my Seinor year of HS where a ton of black students started to move in. After graduation I decided to go to an HBCU to sort've get back what I lost so to speak and get a sense of community. I didn't graduate there, and while there were some classes that were very good at teaching me more about myself, no the education wasn't exactly the best, but I wouldn't trade the couple of years I spent there for anything, just because it was there I felt as though I truly found my own identity being surrounded by a bunch of peers that looked just like me. Even though I didn't stay at that school, I still appreciate the time that I spent there because of both how much I learned, and how many people I'd meet that I still talk too until this very day, even after I transferred out.

The point is that if you do not come from a sociocultural background of financial literacy, it is extremely difficult for your to develop financial wealth. That is why, in a very basic sense, many parts of the world are still poor despite having been at the crossroads of world trade for thousands of years.

They were all unique people with unique cultures, but Americans weirdos think because they share the same amount of melanin suddenly they all get along and have the same culture.
Because thats what it is, Pan-Africanism is just americans having a dumb view of the world, because they think Africa is as big as chicago, that continent has 2000+ ethinic groups with unique cultures, a lot of them fought against each other, sometimes even genociding each other, but to the Dr.Umars wannabes all africans had the same culture, thats why they claim their cultural attires, food and hairstyles, because they dont see it as cultural apropriation because to americans you culture doesnt matter, only your skin color. African Americans dont know where they came from, so instead of just sticking to their own culture they try to leech of Africans, and they really apropiate the fucking cultures lol, because they ignore the rules and customs of the cultures, because a hairstyle or clothing could be reserved for a certain ocassion, religion, ritual or life point, and they misuse the fuck out of those things and claim "its my culture lol".

I went to a school as the only non white kid. It had been about 15yrs before me that other non white kids had been there. They were family friends. It was another 8yrs before another non white student attended and then about 12yrs after me there were more than one non white family and abt 15/16 yrs after me, it’s about 40% non white.
There was a kid in Special Ed/ Remedial Classes (it wasn’t called that but I can’t remember what it was called then) that found someone’s differences or weakness if they had it and would use that to try to hurt the person. Luckily I was raised comfortable and confident in my self. I was aware that he didn’t like himself and thus was trying to hurt others. I told the kids this. I told them his words didn’t bother me. I never interacted with him bc that’s what he wanted. I also never told bc he wasn’t worth it.
A handful of kids were bothered by it and eventually told. When we had the meeting, the Principal asked why I never said anything and I told them why. Principal and his father were shocked and asked my mom about it. She explained that she didn’t know about it and thus I was likely telling the truth and wasn’t bothered by it. Even tho I knew that most people would consider the language he used with me to be worse than the language he used with others. However, I also knew it all came from the same place. Had he known other words equally as hateful for others then he would have used it.
As an adult looking back I still don’t think he was actually racist. I think he hated himself. NOW, I realize that that could eventually become fully hateful to others and that it was likely a good thing that someone told bc his father got him some therapy. He had no clue that his son was TRYING to bully anyone and his father had a mixed brother. They ran a business together. He was so saddened by what his son what saying and asked him how he’d feel if someone was saying that to his uncle or hurt him bc he was black. That was the moment that kids armor broke.
What’s my point? I could have easily seen that kid as racist vs self hating and engaged with his antics. I could’ve used that as my jumping off point for thinking all white people were racist and lived my life looking for that. The thing is when you think everyone and everything is racist then you do see it and think others are blind. The white lady got in front of you bc she’s racist NOT bc her kid is sick and she was arguing with her boss thus she was distracted and not paying attention. You didn’t get the promotion bc the boss racist NOT bc the other person is well liked by everyone and is equally qualified to do the job. That co-worker is liked by everyone bc the company is racist NOT bc you don’t engage with other co-workers. You got pulled over bc your black NOT bc you were going 20mph over the speed limit. You were going the flow of traffic so why didn’t the cop pull over someone else? He’s racist NOT he just picked a car at random and it happened to be you. It’s nice to blame other people and systems in place for the lack of progress, success, happiness, health, wealth, anything and everything vs acknowledging MAYBE there’s things that need to change about you. Maybe you could put more effort in, be more polite, recognize that Bob down the street has no power and can’t keep you down

And heaven forbid that some of us have more in common with other races of people than our own. We’re a sellout and a “pick me” in his eyes.
Well, quite frankly, FD, I don’t give a fuck what black community thinks of me. I have a life of my own and interests of my own. I should be able to venture and connect with whoever without being told I’m in debt to my community and I should constantly talk about them. My personal belief here is that it’s ignorant and uncaring to be unaware or insensitive to the differences between living as a white person vs a black person in America, historically and presently. Just as it would be ignorant to not see the differences in how men and women have been treated, or gay vs straight. The problem is that it’s suddenly become the end all be all. I’ve experienced a surprising amount of misogyny, in my personal life and at work. More than I would’ve imagined. But I think of how much worse it could be and how I still have the ability to succeed and the freedom to seek community that uplifts me and the right to speak my mind. No amount of praying, let alone bitching or blaming is going to change the world for the better. The only thing that can possibly work is being the change you want to see and having enough gratitude in your heart to wear a smile and love people the way you want to be loved and the self respect it takes to focus on self improvement first. That serenity prayer is some good shit, actually. We can be aware of marginalized communities without being whiney babies about it. I think..

The desire to feel understood and to be sympathized with becomes so profound for some people, that they may incorporate their status as a victim into the very fabric of their personality. Legitimate or fabricated, they will define themselves by their perceived trauma. From their perspective, their outward identity is the primary or sole variable by which the world interacts with them as an individual. And if they have been done wrong by the world, they will thus reflexively determine that it was because of their identity.
Therefore, their outward identity and their status as a victim become one and the same. One cannot be without the other. This results in an unfortunate paradox. The perpetuation of the institution by which they feel oppressed becomes necessary for the perpetuation of their own identity. If the source of their oppression disappears, so does their status as a victim. If their status as a victim disappears, so does their identity. Without a sense of identity, one may lose their sense of self, of place, of belonging. The world can be a scary, depressing, difficult place, but it's easier to face if you feel like you have people at your back. Even if you have to manipulate them into sympathizing with you.
And so, we see "anti-racist" crusaders who inadvertently (or otherwise) begin to repeat racist rhetoric without realizing, or who say ridiculous things that they know will garner a genuinely racist response. All so that they can cash in the next victimhood ticket, the next batch of donations, the next wave of twitter likes, so on and so forth.
Depriving someone who defines themselves by their status as a victim of the source of their victimization would be like depriving an addict of the substance they abuse. The addict might claim that they'd do anything to get rid of the substance, when in reality, they're far more concerned with how they're going to get their next fix.

Someone once told me that Americans are their race before being a collective group defined by being "American" and it’s so true. Here in Europe we are all white right? (Not really but that’s another topic) so why don’t we all feel a sense of "europeism"? Because we have other identities first, like being German, English, Spanish, Italian… why doesn’t that happen with the USA? Because even if your parents are from another country, You, you, yes you, you are American, born and raised, culturally American (cannot be anything else because that means you are raised somewhere else). So why differentiate yourself from your neighbors, by physical appearance when you both consume the same water, buy the same foods, enjoy the same culture, and speak the same language? I don’t get it. That’s why I mentioned that here in Europe we are not all white, but everyone is an identity other than their race. Something better and bigger, a shared identity based on culture!

Because it's nice to think that the people that messed you up in the first place, might help you clean it up a bit.
Not saying I think that way, just the quickest way to explain what it is. As a mixed race black man who identifies as black to make it quick if someone asked, 70% black 30% european, I try and call it the way it is.
Especially when modern day whites say that they regret slavery or don't agree with it. Black people feel like, okay, so do you want to help us out a bit? Then white folks will say well.. not really. And it puts the bad taste in black people's mouths so to speak.
