    Really glad I’ve found this channel. I’m investing in a Staccato P Duo and C2 Duo later this year, because of how reliable they’ve become. I’ve owned 2011 and 1911s for years, and the biggest 2011 turn off was the crappy mags... I’m glad that STI has devoted itself to duty grade pistol manufacturing; I think it’s definitely given new life to a wonderful platform. Hell, look at how many SWAT teams, etc, really good ones, are getting into the platform again! Thanks brother.
    Bottom line: a 1911 style trigger is second to none.

  • @crumply5959
    @crumply5959 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    would you ever recommend the bul armory 2011s or the acw quantico for duty use. I like the traditional looks of those guns as opposed to the race car aesthetics of the staccato and wilson combats. I feel like if Im going to carry a 1911 then it has to look like a traditional 1911 because its symbolic and professional.

    • @108Performance
      @108Performance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Bul is an untested quantity, a lower priced imported gun with MIM small parts. The ACW is a high priced one off custom build from a small shop. In the end you can choose whatever you want, but I recommend the Staccato or Wilsons because of the size of their operation - which equates to a lot more guns built and available, better warranty support, and in the case of Staccato, being the actual manufacturer of critical items like the slide/frame, magazines, and grip modules.

    Mr. Yam, great video. I have a few followup questions. 1. With the improved Gen 2 magazines, do you see these gen 2 double stack magazines as more reliable than the latest generation of single-stack 9mm 1911 magazines? 2. Do you see current top quality 2011's as being as reliable as Glocks now without requiring much more maintenance, or do you think the average person should still consider staying in the striker world unless they have a much more dedicated mentality to maintenance? (In the past it seemed that you felt this wasn't the case.) 3. Are the new Gen 2 magazines needing tuning over time?

    • @108Performance
      @108Performance  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ghutz Harbinger 1) I haven’t tested the newer single stack 9mm mags, no time and little interest right now. The ones I used before were mostly a headache. 2) Reliable as a Glock is a tough term - if you shoot 2-3000 rds out of each, cleaning them every 500-1000 rds and lubing them, both will go off 2-3000 times without incident....so sure. If we’re talking about ignoring maintenance and setup...the Glock is much more forgiving, at the expense of the higher end of performance - a stock Glock is not in the same ball park as a new STI in terms of trigger, accuracy, and recoil mitigation. 3) As I said in the video, when mags start needing attention past new springs, get new mags.

      @@108Performance I vaguely remember reading a comment by Larry Vickers many years ago where he stated if you treat your gun like you treat your lawn mower, buy a Glock. I'm sure that could now be applied to almost all striker fired pistols...

    I hear aftec extractors are the answer to many 1911 problems. Do you have any experience with them?

    • @108Performance
      @108Performance  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Garrett Morrison Aftec extractors remove the loss of tension issues, but only solve problems if you install and tune them properly from the start. They are not just a drop in fix. They help, but are not the be all end all.

    • @108Performance
      @108Performance  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      goatmurray None at all, the gun is still over built for those. You could go to the heavier spring (get the Dawson Tool-Less guide rod, they also have the light/standard/heavier spring sets) if you’re shooting +P exclusively.

      Longbow072 longshadow makes a duty holster for the STI. They are listed on the STI site but best to go directly to manufacturer site and order. I am running that one on duty and like it. Plus the company is veteran owned and operated. Takes 8 ish weeks. Tier 1 concealed also makes one. I have a few of their holsters for other platforms. Well built holsters. Either one works well with rmr or without and with or without lights. Plus both are built to use with all of the current mounting platforms so you can attach to your current rig

      Longbow072 Safariland has been dragging their feet....they delivered prototypes which are good to go, but it’s been 6 months and they still haven’t given a release date. I’ve also used the RDS holster for the M&P 5” CORE, it fits the STI and locks in place. It took me 4 months to get. Blackhawk’s T Series is going to become a serious contender (no really)....see my Ep19 video from SHOT.

      True, but the BH won't be an option tell it gets its time in the sun and testing to boot, so SF is the option for us coppers. I've also heard about the MP Core fitting and I wonder if it fits the 2020 version with the slightly longer slide vs the 2019.
      My ALS for my G34 Gen 5 MOS with RDS took about the same timeframe... ridiculous. I'm STILL waiting on armor ordered in November.
      Oh well, I'll be picking up a 2020 Stac P HOST, hard part will come down to deciding it buying the CORE holster will be worth the wait with no idea's when the legit holsters will be available. They aren't cheap.

    Been carrying a 2011 9mm on duty for nearly 15 years. If set up correctly, I believe they are every bit as reliable as any Glock. Get an aftec extractor. Get an Aluminum frame to save weight if your old like me. I have not had any problems with stock gen 1 STI mags.
