To me, £1500 is no longer intermediate. I would say that's a high end guitar. Intermediate would be £500-800 or so.

@@onlyguitars Nice. I know there are a lot of Les Paul haters, but for me (I am mostly a bassist) I have found them to be the best in my hands. Every PRS I found to be dead sounding when I played them, but to be fair, I need to try more of them. I just prefer a thick, woody sound, they are comfortable in my hands and my 2001 Standard (which was owned by my friend Victor Griffin from Pentagram) doesn't have the tuning issues (neither did my aforementioned 2004 Special). Other guitars I found great are true vintage BC Rich. I have a 1980 BC Rich Eagle bass and the craftsmanship is second to none.

Unless you are kind of a player that you HAVE to have Les paul or SG because that's your thing. If you're looking only for solid, solid, solid piece of gear, then PRS is for you.

@@CosmicHippopotamus You just compared two very different guitars/price ranges. The PRS SE is made in South Korea, while the American Standard (what is now the Professional line) was made in the USA. @@Livelaughlimpbizkit I've actually heard both of these explanations before. However, I have a feeling limed mahogany was a different color, because I've literally never seen any furniture painted like that guitar. If it were a standard color of any furniture, you would see it sometimes in thrift shops, but I've not seen it even once that I can recall. I could be wrong. Heck, it could even be both! I can imagine it showing up well on camera though. Were these guitars the only ones painted this way? Maybe they would paint TV-ready guitars this color, but they only provided the color to the public on their cheap guitars.

@@Outta-hz1ej Sound and video quality weren't great over the air in those days, so a guitar only had to look and sound so good for TV I bet. As I see it an "intermediate guitar" would be one with a price range of £500 to £1000. Which 5 of the 7 guitars met. It was the Gibson's that broke the bank (then again Gibsons usually do along with PRS(USA) on both). They would be more advanced guitars verging on the high end guitars. It would have been better and more accurate to have gone with Gibson LP and SG Tribute guitars as they are about £1000.

Actually Dagen TV yellow DIDN'T come across as grey cause if it did then there wouldn't be an issue to change it, it came out as a hot spot on TV giving it a kinda blurry image so they changed it to yellow which didn't give off the hot spot and it looked white, that's your fun fact.

Depends on what someone wants , but with 1.5 k if it is for gigging get a nice amp and then a guitar for 600 and you are good to go. Guitars nowadays are great even in the cheaper market. But the amp makes the difference!

I understand they are trying to sell new guitars but I went the used route when I was an intermediate player and needed to upgrade. I ended up getting a USA Paul Reed Smith S2 Custom 24 for under a grand. I couldn’t be happier with it and will have it forever! Although I really want a PRS SE Hollowbody now, or the SE 277 baritone.

Agree with most of the comments on price points for guitars here - to me, beginner price range is £500 and below, intermediate between £500-£1k, and anything above £1k is more suitable for pros/jobbing musicians and/or hobbyists with more disposable income

Definitely will go for Fender Tele and Strat Player series, great sound which close to the US made. Add a little more money to upgrade a locking tuner, and you are ready to rock.

Dagan you got the TV Yellow fun fact wrong. It was all to do with dynamic range. TV Cameras back in the day had very low dynamic range and under very bright lights when exposed for skin anything that was white or black for that matter would lose all detail. So whites would bleach out and blacks would crush down to pure black. I'm a filmmaker and have to box clever with this even today with modern cameras. I get actors to wear dark greys instead of black and off whites or light greys instead of white. A 'colour' would have worked even better using black and white film as RED for example has a lot of contrast and would be a strong dark grey. Yellow reads as white but with enough detail to handle contrast.

if you're more in a budget (and or a lefty)i would like to suggest Squier contemporary series, it's not for everyone, but they're very unexpensive with amazing necks, some pretty good pickups depending on the model.

Tv yellow was not made because it looks good on tv, it was most likely named that to profit off the Les Paul tv show that came out the same time the finish was first being sprayed. Juniors and Specials were “beginner” guitars at the time, so these guitars would never be featured on tv because the guitarist would be playing a goldtop standard or black custom if they were successful enough to appear on tv.

as much as I love Yamaha's acustic guitars and the revstar guitars the pacifica was never on par with them/ all the pacificas I emcounterd had really sharp frets and the shielding was god awfull and the trem system never worked well. i think the revstar deserves it spot. a revstar never disappointed me, great pickups, great quality, ok pret job. Im telling you mate the revstars are where its at.
