    While many series would shoehorn in something like Hamel as a quintessential 'edgy' backstory for a character, Trails really makes you 'feel' the weight of what happened in Hamel. From Loewe explaining the truth to a shocked Estelle, to the glimpses you see in flashbacks, to then 200+ hours of games later to actually set foot in the place, is just unbelievably haunting. As I wandered the ruins, I had a lump in my throat and felt as if I was actually walking the site of some real life tragedy. Seeing Loewe's sword, and the toys, watching Tita and Agate pay their respects.
    If that isn't a testament to the power of Trails world-building and characterization, I don't know what is

      But when i arrived in Hamel, i was just silently staring at my screen while advancing, finding the wooden sword, and the toy, knowing exactly who used to play here
      If the music wasn't enough, the simple fact that a bloodthirtsy beast like Shirley was paying her respect and didn't want to fight there say a lot about how sadness and tragedy weight on the ruins of this village (while Shirley didn't even knew Leonhardt)
      I think even people who didn't play Sky trilogy understood immediately what kind of place it was
      PS: Not exactly the same, but i had kinda the same reaction when walking in the devastated Celdic in CS2, seing the people shocked, devastated and traumatized, begging the injured not to die (and Jusis guilt growing stronger as you advance in the village don't help)

    I though Celdic was tough. But, Hamel, especially having finished all of Trails up to this point... is on a whole another level. This village, once beautiful, serene and happy, became a justification for a war. A war whose only purpose is for the glory of Nobles. Such a sad, yet beautiful tale. Just like how a volcano fertilizes the ground, or how a phoenix can grow more powerful when its reborn from the ashes, the survivors of Hamel prevailed. Leonhardt, Loewe, The Bladelord, Enforcer II of Ouroboros, in his path of testing humanity, he grew so powerful that even some of the most powerful entities in Zemuria acknowledges his strength and potential. Not only this, he died protecting his girlfriend's brother. Joshua Astray, Joshua Bright, Black Fang, Bracer, Enforcer XIII, the shadow to Estelle's sun, he now protects those important to him. He found friends and allies to rely upon, growing stronger by the minute. Ash Carbide, Classes VII and VIII, he found a mother he can rely on, one that would love him, and even when she perished, he found Class VII and the Thors Branch Campus as a second home, one that will never leave him behind. This series is a masterpiece, I am so glad to have been a part of it, and here's to the rest of the story, may our Heroes succeed so that no more Hamel may be created.

    • @danethehero2729
      @danethehero2729 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Indeed - I didn't even mind the curse as a plot point, I just thought that it's just a catalyst for events that would have happened anyway - as Valimar says, even without the Curse, it's hard to imagine that Arundel Sr. and the rest of the Noble Faction would have struck in some other place, possibly causing the same amount of deaths and suffering that Hamel did. In the end, the curse mattered little in the series up until the start of the Great War, at which point things had gotten too far to be stopped - again, it was just a matter of time before Osborne found a C.B to go to war with Calvard, if not over the emperor, it would have been over Crossbell (the story of the Great War reminds me of the story of WW2, and Osborne's seizure of power across CS3 reminds me a bit of the real-life transition from Imperial Germany, to the Weimar Republic, to Nazi Germany). Ash shooting the emperor was the right opportunity at the right time. Props to the Falcom writing team for writing such powerful events and scenes

    Just finished chapter 1 of Cold Steel 3. After hearing so much about Hamel in the previous games it was unbelievable to actually set foot in the ruins. As soon as I heard this music and realised it was a melancholy arrangement of Silver Will I just stopped and listened... it really is both sad and beautiful like the characters state. The bracelet amongst the ruins implied to be Karin Astray's was a really powerful titbit.
    Another incredibly well done aspect of Hamel is just how universally respected the ruins and Loewe's grave are. When even someone like Shirley is willing to put aside differences to lay flowers and prayers at the grave it's evident that nobody wants to spill even more blood in Hamel. Lastly, the short scene with Tita and Agate laying flowers that were from Estelle, Joshua and Renne jerked a tear out of me. An absolute masterful payoff for a plot point setup 11 years ago in real life time.

We have no right to hide behind the truth just because the pain and danger it may bring about. That's just fake peace we live in and ultimately disrespectful to the innocent people who died in Hamel and all the people lost in the war because of it, soldiers and civilians alike. I can't help but wonder if our real world accept this kind of logic and hide truth from us. If that's the case I would absolutely despise the fake peace we have now.

    Little did we know that it would all begin with a need for power, that would lead to the end of a peaceful village.
    Only a Majestic voice filled with an indomitable will could begin the next phase in ending such tragedy.
    And thus a young man filled with hopes and love, would sing and prepare the world for a path none could see coming.
    A young boy set on a path of his own, to carry a burden none other could bare. To be the light for his country.
    And thus the three boys of the village will falter, only to share a common goal to fix what they and the tragedy have started.
    A girl who shines brighter than the sun, will show the way to that third path none other could walk toward.

      @ultimakirbytv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      and several months after the 100 days war was over, the shocking fact was revealed starting from those few survivors and eventually to Imperial Gov't.
      Turns out it was war hawk of who ordered the armed men to attack Hamel.
      Some of the officers of war hawk were noble faction people and they were concerned about their.. turfs.. getting unstable so they needed something to justify the war.
      That's when Weissman whispered the name Hamel and introduced them some jaeger dropouts.
      After the wars, Empire came to Liberl and suggested to make a peace because such news was very panicking even for them and they made a great loss during 100 days war thanks to Cassius Bright a colonel of Liberl Knight and a great strategist.
      Liberl accepted it and eventually, noble military officers of Imperial war hawks, jaeger dropouts were executed, Hamel's name was erased from the map, and Hamel was "known" to be crushed by "landslide" which is a big, fat lie.

    • @ultimakirbytv

      @@BananaCattes Keep in mind that it is a big-fat lie.
      That's probably the best "reason" they can come up with considering the true story of Hamel's tragedy is like top-secret info of Erebonia Empire.
      Think about it, one nation massacred her own people to make an "excuse" to cause a war against another place, and that nation who cause the tragedy overlooked that in exchange for executing those behind it.
