- In this video, we have a look at four different versions of the fictional game Fix It Felix made for the movie Wreck It Ralph. Each one more basic than the previous and you might be surprised which is my favorite.

I love that they came up with an original game that FEELS like it came from the classic era.

It introduced 12 year old me to some new characters--at first I thought the bartender in Tapper was Mario in a tux; it wasnt until I played the real machine at Crabtowne USA in Glen Burnie a year later that I realized it was a real game from 1982!! Love the beer tap controllers--you really could turn any stressful job into an exciting video game back then!!
out of all the games ever released from a movie, because a we know, they usually suck when making games from films, this is quite possibly the best one ever, i mean aladdin was a good game back in the day, but this is defo by far the best yet. they kinda did a toy story, by making a film about a fictional product, to make people want it, and then because it doesn't exist, they get to make it, and people eat it up, just like the toys tory figures, and this does not disappoint in the slightest, i think its brilliant, and so is the film.
Before the pandemic I use to play this at High Scores Arcade in Alameda CA. It's re-opened and now the Fix- it Felix machine is gone ☹️ It was a great game. I wish they would make it for XBox or Playstation. Or maybe an Arcade perfect homebrew for the Dreamcast.
They released the first one in my video on the AtGames Legends Flashback, Jea, I'm super glad I can keep playing it now.
Isn't the PC version the actual one used in the arcade cabinets at disney? Someone bought a cabinet, found out the game was actually a computer file rather than an actual arcade game and posted the entire game online. I'm pretty sure that's what happened
When I saw that game hosted by someone on KLOV they described it as the same files inside those custom Felix cabs in Disneyland so I'm certain this was the same game. It's really good, I like it ...... but not as much as that 2600 version.

There are several things about Fix it Felix that couldn’t have been done in the 80’s.....
-Clear voice acting for characters
-Certain graphical effects seem a little advanced for 1982, such as the shading on a lot of the characters which looks almost 16-bit
-Certain sound effects are too advanced for 1982 hardware, though they could most likely be accurately replicated on more powerful 8-bit hardware that was starting to be used for arcade games around 1985-1986........

I stumbled across your version and was blown away by it!! I love that you used the AY-3-8910 as a basis for the audio and the "tile loading" effects on the vertical scrolling were a nice touch!! My only change would be maybe moving the scores down 8 pixels and adding 1UP and 2UP headers, and relocating the life and medal counters accordingly. Also an optional continue feature perhaps, using Namco's continue screens as a basis:

Definitely could be performed if with the 0KIMSM2695 soundchip if it were a 90s game!!!!

I usually play the flash version on the disney website because it's easy to access when I'm in class but for some reason I can't get google chrome to update flash so rip me

I love that this game has that addicting risk vs reward gameplay hook that so many arcade classics from the early 80's, its actually really fun. The PC version is awesome becuase its designed to work in an arcade cabinet. If you have a keymapper, you can map the "C" key to a functioning coin mech.
Yup I agree Alex, you would think all original ideas for arcade games would have been used up years ago and yet along comes this awesome kinda-Donkey Kong concept that nails it.
Running this little gem on my Xtensions Jr cabinet and it plays like a dream, they even have custom bezels for it now.
I still play all versions to this day. Love Felix!
I wish the final genesis version had the Q*Bert Bonus Level.

Whats funny is that, if you think about it, adding a new level to the game basically makes Felix and Ralph the OG ROM hackers. In other words, as far as the Disney universe is concerned, Ralph and Felix are responsible for that weird VS Super Mario Bros hack that changes Mario and Luigi into radical skater dudes, Bowser into a football jock (whose footballs still make flame sounds) and the princess into a topless blonde chick. Oh and they made the font look ugly and rectangly for no reason
Yes that hack I just described actually exists. It's called Skate Kid Bros. It was a hack made by two bit score in 1988, and a rather lazy one--Mario and Luigi's names still appear in the HUD, and the (c)1986 NINTENDO subtitle is still shown beneath the logo, which itself has been reduced to a glitchy mess of deer silhouettes
first off, thanks for the link, ive added some more version links in the bottom of this comment, and second, oh my god, i love the last one. its basically Fix it Felix Jrs dad, Mr Fix it Felix Senior himself. so if Fix it Felix Jr had been a real game , this would have been the one before it, like donkey was to donkey kong jr. amazing, cant wait to run it on my retroarch. also, i have the arcade version, but, mine doesnt have voices, so im guessing its a slightly different build? also i have two links to two other versions, disneys lol flash version, and one i like to call the beta version cuz it has the words beta at the bottom. the disney one is good but wont work on chrome for some reason, and the beta is great, because just like the iOs version, its a continuous building with a timer, in other words, its a survival mode of fix it felix jr. so the iOs isn't a limited version, it too is more like a survival mode of FIFJr where you never get to the roof, you just keep going and seeing if you can beat the clock, because every section you beat, adds time to your clock, so the quicker you beat a section, the more time you have. so heres the disney one

Wow thanks for the info DOS81, that's awesome! I totally agree with you so many of these versions are great, they each have pluses and minuses. For Christmas I got the new. Felix min arcade cab and I have to say it is a very good contender for "best version" ... but my heart still belongs to the Atari 2600 homebrew
I actually played a real life Fix It Felix Jr arcade cabinet in Girard Ohio. It was so amazing how they were able to get it so on point. The arcade is called Pastimes Arcade.
Cool stuff! I think they've put that ROM on the AtGames Legends Flashback, I have it and it's the first game in my video for sure.
Imagine if the Commodore 64 is still making games, this would be ported

I play the c64 version all thr the time. It's pretty good.
The earlier versions on iOS were WAY better than the last one....stupidly I upgraded and there's no way back. The earlier versions was much faster to play.....

They had multiple cabinet versions of Fix it Felix at DisneyQuest before it closed

Ahhh you shoulda been there when the movie reviews first came out. Too many wanted "real games" represented and complaints like "Where's Mario?"
I said IOS a couple years ago but now I think PC is the best because it looks like how it was in the movie

You should have nothing to worry about. The studio don't give two shits of something they were giving away for free a couple of years ago.

I found a few Arcade Machines for Fix It Felix Jr. At a gaming convention called 'Zap Con' and a few a Disney Land, that had Copyright dates for 1980 or 1982. I don't really remember.
I just find it strange how it was copyrighted for 1980/2 if it was created fictionally for a movie that was made in 2012.

The c64 version is pretty good. I play it on a regular basis.

Hi Jake, it's definitely an acquired taste but I love it (then again I'm older than dirt). Having said all this, I'm getting the new Fix It Felix mini arcade machine for Christmas so there might be a new contender.

you mean the one from Arcade Classics? I have that (did a video) but I found it gives out way too many bonus lives that it doesn't really feel like an arcade cabinet to me ... but it looks nice on my desk

actually it's on the AtGames Legends Flashback and other new AtGames machines like Legends, I have the Flashback and it's totally worth it just for that Fix It Felix

The proceeds go to UNICEF so it's probably money well spent. And it's up to you what you spend.
What is interesting is that you play a different version of it on the Genesis than I did. I played what is sort of a playable demo. So that makes it sort of two versions for the Genesis/Megadrive.
Yup mine has had a bunch of views which is good to see and I did watch your footage of the new C64 version. Amazing animation on that one! I admit the music can be a little annoying after a while but I assume there's an option to turn that off? Very cool new addition to the Wreck It Ralph library and thank you for showing us all gameplay Wouter! If I had. C64 I would definitely pick this one up.
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 It's well made and fun to play but it does lack a few features. Like turning off the music, saving scores, showing the level on screen. Also, I haven't seen the shutters yet, only the flower pots. If you want to give it a go, you can easily play this on the Vice C64 emulator.

The Genesis Felix mentions a marathon mode in the high score table, but I can't seem to switch to a different mode. Any idea how that works?
No idea .... what I really wanted in the Genesis version was the ability to skip the intro. Once is fun but constantly needing to see that intro gets annoying

digerman3 I suspect you're right. John's Arcade went around a place in Disney and they had Fix It Felix machines and the game running on there looked a lot like this PC one.

darn, that's a shame cuz I would have enjoyed it but having said that the new mini arcade cab of Felix is awesome so I'm happy with that and the Atari2600 version

Good question, harder to program for maybe? It does seem weird considering how many homebrews exist of this for different systems.
@@DowntheRabbitHole0 Yeah, I think it is harder to program for, but I guess when it's a game this simple it's just stupid that it's on so many other consolse yet with all the hackers out there, none of them thoguht to put it on SNES too.
@@inceptional These games weren't hacks, so that's why hackers didn't put it on the SNES. SNES is very difficult to program for and there's a lot less tools available than there are for other consoles.
@@inceptional There's no game that would be a good basis for a rom hack, and if people are going to program on a difficult system, they're likely going to try to do their own thing rather than a bootleg.

Again - there's a lot less tools for SNES than there are for other consoles. The SNES is *very* difficult to program, even with "the most basic and standard spec and features".
I encourage you to look at how to develop for the SNES, and see if you still think "this should be easy".
It's easy to say what is and isn't easy when you aren't the one doing it.
@@inceptional The SNES is VASTLY different than the other consoles. It's obvious you don't understand all that goes into it.
And I'm not obsessing over "hack". There's tons of rom hackers out there that can only do graphic swaps. Very few actually go in and recode parts. And I think you underestimate how small the SNES Dev scene is compared to all of the others. Which brings back my point that those who are in the SNES Dev community would rather work on their own titles rather than make a bootleg game.
But since it's so easy, feel free to take on the task.
