Sadly old footage that was shot before the late 1980s doesn't really show colours that well in most cases (low budget movies, movies that weren't fixed when translated to digital format and home made videos, etc), not only because of the tape but because time can alterate and ruin the quality over time, especially if it wasn't stored carefully.
