For weeks now I have been listening to people complaining about the steelhead season in the PNW. The states do not seem to do the work that was once done. People down in southern Oregon tell me about runs of salmon and steelhead in the 40 to 80 thousand fish per run. Now the hatcheries sit at 20% of capacity. I have been thinking if some anglers could volunteer some of their time, we could open dozens of places like you showed. Let the planting of fish be in the hands of the anglers. Broodstock programs are a wonderful start. Thanks for what you are doing.
There's a link in the description to contact the Governor. Tell them what you think! Share this to everyone you know that cares to help and instruct them to contact the Governor as well. The more people that contact, the more we get heard! Tell them you wanna see desert springs trout farm get used!
I agree! Share this on Facebook, other social media, call odfw, submit a message to our Governor, do it all! Tell everyone you know to as well! Lets flood them we requests to use Desert Springs!
They are good fish. The only time I found stockers which fought better than the native fish were some Desert Springs fish-good color, chased streamer flies.
Thank you for showcasing this. More people need to realize the shortcomings of our government agencies and yes there are alternative solutions! Unfortunately as we all know with the government it’s all about control and trying to get them to recognize their failures and relinquish any of that control and own up is almost impossible. This is more ammo for us to use togain back control of OUR resources. Many thanks.
Your welcome! Share this on Facebook, other social media, call odfw, submit a message to our Governor, do it all! Tell everyone you know to as well! Lets flood them we requests to use Desert Springs! It's the only way to get they attention is all of us to request it!
Feedback from anglers was a cause for ODFW to discontinue sourcing from this hatchery??? Unless they somehow polled a bunch of anglers that prefer the grayish fillets from State hatcheries I think it's safe to call BS on that one.
Maybe if the Far Left would have an Open Ear the Rivers be Cleaner and if they would Not listen to Al Gore Our Whole Country would not bein the shape it is Now. Hope someone Start up a Tree Planting Program to help America
Ans is no as genetics of each spawning river is unique and would have to be kept seperate which inevitably would fail by human error alone just producing more fish to throw into the rivers isnt the answer and could lead to genetics causing more unforseen problems
This is a gross mis-representation of factual information concerning the current state of hatcheries in the Northwest. Anti-hatchery policy driven by the lack of participation of anglers in advocating for these programs is the biggest single threat to future Angling opportunities. Desert Hotsprings in the past has had a contact with ODFW to raise tripoid trout.
@inandonthenet the video wastes half the viewers time talking about water quality issues even though ODFW has not built a production facility in over 60 years.
Glad I was there to help! Hopefully we can get something done. 541 Fisherman & In And On The Net Fishing are here for the salmon!!
This needs too be on all the news stations or opb! Get the word out!
I have personally been to this facility. Everything is top of the line. Fantastic fish. Keep up the good work Tom. Dannie
It really is amazing and so are the MacDonald Family!

I agree with every little bit of this.
Great video we need to let more people know about this and start messaging the government

Salmon needed this yesterday. Get out of the way ODFW. Let us fix the problem because we actually care about the future.
Yes!! Contact the Governor with the link in the description and share the crap out of this!

I'd have to agree!!
For twenty years I’ve said we need to privatize hatcheries no one listened if it were up to me I would have a hatchery on every river
We have a similar operation nearby not problem free .
But does your similar sights ground water run a perfect ph and a perfect 59 degrees 365 days a year 24 hours a day? This place is incredible!

Yup, I've heard that around the block
@@inandonthenet I was hoping they were watching.
@@philabowl8073 I'm sure they'll see this
Closers are for wild fish. Who wants to catch that. Let’s help wild fish come back. Lol, they said they are technically steelhead.
They could bring back private hatch boxes regulated by ODFW.
The issue is that odfw isn't even willing to do anything. I'm trying to get an interview with odfw to try and understand they're opposition
@@inandonthenetthey probably fear being sued by wild fish only groups.
What are they being fed? They look Ike footballs!
Excellent and very healthy feed
The perfect PH, water Temps and the oxygenation of the water are the key factors
