A Highlander LE V6 AWD plus has snow mode
It decreases throttle sensitivity and it shifts into the next gear at very low rpms which decreases shift shock
Sport mode isn’t an option, but power mode is
Powermode just keeps it in a slightly higher gear than normal which reduces the amount of shifts you have and feel

      You're doing it wrong....
You're supposed to change your driving habits to meet the mode the car is in.
If you're ALWAYS driving like you think you're Mario freakin Andretti, regardless of what mode it's in, OF COURSE it's not going to give you the result you're wanting, or the result it's designed for.
When you're wanting to zip around on tight, winding Mountain roads, or make your way quickly across town, or spend some time on a race course, put that sucker in sport mode and drive it like a sports car.
But if you're stuck in rush hour traffic, or if you're just coming home after a long, hard, tiring day at work, and you're more concerned about taking it easy and relaxing, than you are about zipping around the corners at top speed, and passing everything but a gas station ...then you put it in eco mode and take it easy. You sit back, relax, let it coast into the corner and ease your way out... You let the ride be smoooooth, and let the car catch it's breath. Let it gently swing its way through the curves, casually climb up the hills, and Coast down them.
You don't have to have your dang foot smashing on a pedal, constant, non-stop, all the freaking time...
Gas, brake, gas, brake, gas, brake!!
Some people act like it will kill them if more than a tenth of a millisecond passes without that foot mashing on the brake or gas pedal.
With the technology in cars these days, people totally forget the *driver* element.
You can put the car in different modes, but you need to put the DRIVER in different modes too.
You can't expect the car to be as fast in eco mode as it is in sport, or normal, that's why they call it freakin sport, eco, and normal!
The DRIVER needs to match the cars mode.
No matter how fancy the technology, until the car is fully autonomous and self driving, the DRIVER is going to affect the vehicles performance, economy, efficiency... REGARDLESS of what mode the car is in.

I use normal mode most the time and especially to accelerate, but I apply eco mode when I am dealing with heavy or even steady traffic. This way my car moves slower or more consistent because of harder regenerative braking. If I am in a position to accelerate more frequently then eco mode is actually harder to cruise in because of the breaking system. I have a fusion hybrid.

Toyota manual says that eco is actually only for speeds around or under 50km lol so the conversion is like 32.5mph so we can say 35mph or lower is for eco mode driving to the store around the corner and stuff like that so eco mode actually wouldnt be as efficient as the normal mode on the highway and driving that is 40mph or more and then I think sport mode like people have said if your going to highway drive or fast speeds for a good ammount of time I could see why you could get a little bit better gas mileage but yes I have seen these questions asked alot so I figured id throw my opinion out there I love the sport mode especially hitting the highway in manual mode and using the paddel shifters the corolla SE I have really kicks a good punch and I can fly right in to the highway from the yeilding lane no problem aswell as cornering in this car is so good its scary how fast you can hit a bend in the corolla SE due to the struts and the very low drag force on this car which makes it so smooth at speeds over 65mph I love my SE Corolla!

  • @vpenywise

I'm not sure you fully understand what "ECO mode taking off the throttle" means... It will have literally zero effect when you're already cruising and especially when you're using cruise control. ECO mode has its benefits in city driving, simply because it accelerates the car more gently, but that's all. With adaptive cruise control or even regular cruise control it just doesn't matter.
In addition, that SPORT mode would have very little to no effect on the car in those conditions either. On a CVT transmission the SPORT mode will force the engine into higher RPMs and generally hold then higher, but on this 8-speed automatic transmission it didn't even move a single bar on the RPM...

  • @paulanderegg5536

I noticed on my 2018, as in my Prius, the modes basically change throttle pedal response, so sport 1/4 pedal travel prodiuces more throttle than normal or eco. In straight up no traffic conditions, on my work comute, all three modes produce identical MPG with 50% freeway 50% surface streets, around 40MPG on the trip. Fun fact though I found, in stop and go comute, same route, the sport mode produces the best MPG for me, apparently I assume because eco and normal chug along a little too much. It was a fun find. If you rest your foot on the gas pedal, you can use these modes to find the one that allows you to hit your normal cruise speeds with your foot resting on the pedal. If you rest your foot on the pedala nd change modes, you will see you speeds change.

I get 38 mpg from my Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (2018) after long distance driving in ECO mode. I'm not impressed after having driven diesel cars for two decades and got used to over 50 mpg in both my Volvo S40 (2005) and Citroen C8 (2006). A full tank of petrol in the Toyota gives me about 350 miles.

@@furiousfragment7082 I think for city driving it would be or if you have a trouble stepping on the accelerator too hard because all eco mode does is keep your RPMs down so you don't overwork the engine, using up more gas. I have pretty good accelerator control and lately I realized I do more highway driving with little to no traffic than I do city driving.
