Nice ice mining operation! I think the reason the drill was really wobbly is because the pistons are acting as separate entities. You should check the "Share Inertia" button on the Piston group, that should fix it i think.

Just dropped in to check out your drill build. I have been playing for the last 10yrs or more off and on. Doing great keep up the good work.

my favorite is building a ship destroyer/cruiser sized in creative, thinking you've covered everything...until you drop it in survival and find out your conveyor system is broken. Then you gotta run back to creative and start cutting holes in the armor to try to figure out where the missing connection is xD Isy's Inventory Manager is a godsend of a script for catching that, the [no conveyor] tag is so useful lol. Btw share inertia tensor is your friend with large subgrids, just be careful when grinding on that subgrid or unticking the box. Things can get 'splodey. For your ship, if you've got access to the second variety of gatling through the DLC, I recently discovered if you mount them on an advanced rotor head, you can build armor flush on 3 of the 4 faces on the base. Lock the rotor and depower it, share inertia tensor on, build the gatling on the head, lower the rotor to the lowest setting, like -11cm I think, then place armor around it. you can also use the small advanced rotor heads and this trick to direct mount small grid autocannon and assault cannon turrets to a large grid rotor. The autocannon will let you build armor all the way round it, the assault cannon will not but I think you could probably work around that with a little landing gear "tug" ship and the attach button in the control panel for the rotor, if you were determined enough. Love the series man, subgrids are life for me so it's great seeing someone other than Splitsie doing a survival run with tons of subgrids xD

Oh wow, I didn't know you could do that with the gatling guns! I'll have to give that a try. Thanks!

When you were trying to put the piston head onto the piston it's impossible you can't do it that way. You have to go into the person and add a head to it. Also turn on share inertia tensor on your pistons it will stop all the shaking

Noted! so many little things I never messed with in all my time playing lol

you can actually do it through scripts, look into 'Piston Head Attach & Detach Script' script. source: i built a factory for mechanics and this was crucial :)

@@Ada-qj5cp ok well I should have specified vanilla game you can't. I'll have to look into that script, could be useful

The secret is you make the pistons extend at a super slow 0.002, the miners can 'skim' the ice slowly without removing voxel yet getting trace values, if you made that miner a little smaller and full the square instead of an x shape, you can end up with a very slow near constant amount if income

you not knowing that you didn't turn on inertia tensers and that made the whole rig shake and tremble made me shake and tremble

@Official_Dominatus lol yeah well everyone has to have their time learn the game, it is a huge learning curve, been playing this game 5 years and still learning things all the time, thats the beauty of space engineers right?

@ Most definitely! Now adding SE2 to that learning curve xD But mostly just blowing stuff up over there lol

Thats a ton of ice 🧊 I always struggle to store and process it all when I do this lol.

Yeah early game it can be a pain to avoid storage and processing overload haha
