Exactly, people are looking to sports stars to be examples and James is a great one
If Pride sponsored the NHL, and they received a ton of money from it, the NHL would Reimer they don’t give a damn about his homophobia, put on the shirt and skate. Because he’s being paid millions of dollars not to just play hockey but to represent the NHL, which is supposed to be getting behind the idea that it’s inclusive, which means EVERYONE has a right to play. It doesn’t matte r what their sexual orientation is. But…, it’s ok with the NHL if some of the players which represent them are homophobes who would not be ok with a homosexual player? If adidas, one of the NHL’s biggest sponsors were to pull out and take their money with them? Reimer would shut his bible and put on a damn jersey. You said it yourself, he’s a “sports star”. Well, he’s not such a great one when he feels it’s ok to be a bigoted homophobe because his bible told him it’s ok to be one.

The NHL is trying to show that it’s inclusive, that it doesn’t judge, nor discriminates due to your sexual orientation. Reimer is saying, “I do! My bible tells me to!” So a homosexual young man who gets a job playing for San Jose now knows that Reimer is a bigot, and a homophobe, and feels that’s ok because of the bible. A bible that also tells Reimer that he must rid himself of his wealth or he won’t get into heaven…, haven’t seen him talking about giving his millions away?? The millions he’s being paid by the NHL, which claims its inclusive.

I'm gay as gay gets and I'm not a fan of the jerseys. It's like seeing a rainbow flag at the bank- feels very forced and more of a money grab. That being said, LGBT youth are more likely to be obese, so they should take that money and invest in youth sports leagues. Foster a love of hockey & health in these kids that feel excluded from the sport without slapping rainbows everywhere.

This telecast , once financed by a Chinese tech giant, which was likely spying for the PRC, is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the gambling industry. Botterill basically accused Provorov of endangering lives. How many suicides, divorces, addictions, etc., will be a result of the promotional work of Botterill and her cohort?

His actions obviously speak to that, since wearing the jersey isn’t about “supporting the gay agenda” or something stupid like that, but rather the message he is sending is that hockey isn’t for everyone and he wouldn’t want to play with a gay player.

It’s an endorsement of a life style via visual propaganda. When you force an entire team to do these things it gives a false perception of reality to viewers. It says everyone there endorsed homosexuality and approves of the actions of that community and that is absolutely false. I’d say over 60% of the players DO NOT endorse that lifestyle and are likely very much against it, but they’re afraid of ending up on the news and are probably afraid to lose their contracts. If it’s “not a big deal to wear it for 20 minutes” then it should be a big deal to NOT wear it at all.
Why would you have any idea what 60% of the players in the NHL feel on this subject…, or any subject whatsoever? There are nearly 700 players in the nhl, and you claim to have personal knowledge of how 60 % feel about homosexuality? Which would require a relationship with 60% of the nhl players that would have them discussing with you their views on homosexuality? Why would they ever do that? Why would you have that kind of knowledge about that many individuals? How many have discussed with you their own sexuality? Do you know how many of them are homosexuals or have engaged in homosexual activity at some point in their lives? Or do they only discuss with you their disdain for homosexuals? You should write a book!! All this insight with the nhl!!

The NHL is trying to promote inclusion, realizing not everyone who is a talented hockey player is a heterosexual. And because people of different sexual orientation have been maligned, persecuted, jailed, and killed, for centuries, not to mention verbally and physically abused, and disrespected, this sports team thought they would let young men everywhere know that they won’t face that, should they play in the NHL. Brian Burke is simply wrong. Wearing pride colors is showing that you endorse certain values. And some people don't want to do that that. And that is their right. I usually have a lot of respect for Burke. He lost some points with that statement.
