It's all about where teams start in the preseason. If a team starts too low, they'll need to lose no more than 1 game. Teams that start in the top ten can lose 2-3 games and still have a good chance to get in. They figured out they can stack the preseason rankings with SEC and Big Ten teams, and it will take 3-4 losses to eliminate teams from those conferences. It's like getting a head start in a race.

Indiana played 4 games against bowl eligible teams. They won 3 against 7-5 Michigan, 6-6 Nebraska and 6-6 Washington. Those were their best wins. The EIGHT other teams they beat ALL had losing records. The only truly competitive team they faced was Ohio St and they got destroyed. They didn't even have to face Oregon, Penn St, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota. They went 11-1 by beating up the bottom of the Big Ten which was abysmal this season and a cupcake nonconference. They should not be in the playoffs. They only are because they have Big 10 on their chests.

I think it needs to be 16 teams. 4 SEC, 4 BIG10, 2 BIG12, 2 ACC, and 2 Others from like a MTNW or AMER. I think it needs to be 16 teams. 4 SEC, 4 BIG10, 2 BIG12, 2 ACC, and 2 Others from like a MTNW or AMER. That guarantees more equality and then you have 2 left open for the remaining highest ranked which we all know would be SEC or BIG10. Those two "power houses" get a majority of the teams to make them happy because they run the sport apparently. But then it evens it a little. No bys for anyone and get rid of conference championships especially since it's just going to clearly hurt teams for playing an extra game...
No, what needs to happen is that The College Playoff Committee needs to be sued until they take any bias out of the whole situation! The Committee needs to be made of equal reps from each conference so there is no favoritism! If this doesn't happen, it is going to be the same Old Crap every year! It is absolutely ridiculous that we see the problem right in front of us, but no one is doing anything about it!
