    A wee bit off topic, but I hope you are all amazed at Mads Bo Falk's command of English, including nuance. We are so terribly provincial here in the US and the lack of almost any foreign language education beyond - maybe - a high school semester

    Thanks for sharing guys, Mads is as educational and inspirational as ever, we like this guy. And great interview Drake, the quiet and calm manner you have really seems to bring out the story in people. Thanks once again for letting us into your world.

      +funNstuff with the Foxwells Thanks for such a lovely comment guys! Interviews are such a great opportunity to peek inside another sailors life and really tell their story, and we were delighted that Mads took the time to sit down with us. It's also interesting to look at earlier interviews versus this one....haha, we've come a long way! Fair winds to you. ⚓-Monique

    Mads. I love your small boat. I have taken as many as 6 people for 10 days on the ocean in my 27 food boat. I use a bunk bed (like stretcher) that is really neat. Look at my blog at jean.mondeau@blogspot.com and look at the bunk bed setup. I also have a bunch of videos on making space on a small boat. I hope we can meet one day to have "small boat talk". Fair winds.

      +John R Hey John, Season 3 is coming, but we're taking a bit of time in between to work on some paying gigs (gotta keep those lights on!) and the interviews are a bit less labour intensive. We also love to share these stories of people we meet along our voyages...fellow sailors, riggers, captains, they all have a wonderful story to tell and we're delighted to be able to share it with you. Hold tight and we'll be sure to get season 3 up before too long! Fair winds to you! ⚓-Monique

    the idea of splitting the cushions make sense. I might incorporate that into my boat someday in the salon and the quarterberths.

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +W4ABN Daniel, we love that people are getting ideas from these tours...it's part of the reason why we make them. It's also such a simple idea that makes a task (getting into the lockers) that much easier. I very much wish we had split the back cushion on our starboard settee. It's a huge pain to store when we remove it and one of these days I'm just going to take the hatchet to the center and be done with it! Maybe... ಠ_ಠ ⚓-Monique

    Interesting but, It is not recommended to have electronic components in the same locker as the batteries. Batteries off gassing can corrode the electronics and the a spark can possibly explode the off gassing, bad practice...

    I don't understand the "thumbs downs" on any of Drakes videos. I just can't fathom it. Are you mad about the music choice? Are you jealous of the lifestyle? Do your videos and editing skills not compare? I don't get it. There's not even any opinions in these videos for you to disagree with! It's so weird.

    • @tomjeffersonwasright2288
      @tomjeffersonwasright2288 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TigerBeatJunior Perhaps they are from some more experienced sailors. Some of the ideas here are pretty standard, and fairly basic, more for beginners than experienced sailors. For instance, having 1 anchor would be considered asking for trouble in some anchorages and conditions. But while not everything is covered here, what is covered is very positive and upbeat. I don't see anything to dislike.

    • @TigerBeatJunior
      @TigerBeatJunior 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +tom jackson I agree. I don't see Drakes videos as being "how to" videos. I have never come here looking for knowledge, yet always manage to learn something. I appreciate his endeavors in highlighting other sailors and their vessels, no matter how different they may be...and yes, I'm gonna talk about him like he's NOT reading this. ;) LOL This is a great sailing channel regardless. Very unique in many ways.

    interesting.. Where is the traveller on his boat when the dodger and bimini are up? I am trying to figure that out in my head. Ive got a traveller behind me and enclosing the cockpit is probably impossible. That reminds me.. yours is kind of a center cockpit boat too.. perhaps I need to look more at your boat for ideas.

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +S/V Dulcinea Ahoy Dulcinea! Mads takes the enclosure down when they sail. His traveller is in the cockpit just aft of the companionway. On Paragon our traveller is just aft of the enclosure so we can sail with the enclosure on. I have a horizontal zipper in the aft end of the enclosure for the main sheet, and holes on each end of the zipper for the traveller lines.

    he said keep it simple. there is a saying i use sometimes. "KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID". this means when your making or redoing some thing don't over do it. complicated is hard to fix at sea with hand tools. so no smart stuff.. only simple and stupid stuff.

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +S/V Working On It Looking For The Boat Simple can be a great way to go though that is not the route we have always taken. There are certainly some systems aboard Paragon that we have 'backed up' from being a little overly complicated to a much simpler version. It can be easy to be seduced by the thought of all those time saving devices until you realise you spend all that extra time (and then some!) maintaining them! (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique

    Hi Guys, I am really enjoying this series of interviews..... the pressure cooker is interesting and would love to see how he does it. There are some uploads on TH-cam regarding that. The Canning would be great to see or can you make a big batch of the contents and take it to a cannery to have it canned ??

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +wilsnich02 The pressure cooker is very interesting and we're actually looking into getting a pressure canner. The one we have our eye on can fit up to ten pint jars at a time, and that amount seems perfect for a meal with leftovers for the two of us. I've not heard of any place where you can bring meat to get canned, but it's an interesting idea. If we end up getting the canner we'll be sure to film our triumphs...and failures? (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Kallelis Alas, I think Mads prefers to solo sail as opposed to crewing, but I'm sure they've passed each other at some point in their travels. You never know who you're going to meet in an anchorage! ⚓-Monique

    Hi Drake, I heard Mads quit his cruise to the Carribean on Yacht Fiona in the Canaries ? Eric said he was seasick ! I find that hard to believe?

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Steve Cheshire Just to be clear, this video is an interview of Mads Bo Falk aboard s/v Mathilde, not Mads Dahlke who sailed aboard Fiona. Fiona's almost 800 nautical mile passage had some very strong wind coming from astern for many days - I'm sure the motion of the boat was extremely rolly. I probably would have puked my guts out.

    split the cushions. it's so obvious, and i didn't do it when i last redid mine. yes, he may be a genius but these are pretty simple ideas and I can't believe I missed this one.

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike Woodford We also have an extra long cushion on the back of our starboard side settee and it is the bane of my existence. It's impossible to store and gets in the way every time we have company (we remove the back cushion to make more room on the sleeping berth). It really is a simple idea that we're going to adopt...sooner rather than later I hope. ⚓-Monique
