4 years ago I made a compilation of the single star records of that time in the format of a 120 star run using cheese05 120 wr run for castle movement. Its a 1:34:21
It's pretty cool but also we have come a long way ..

I did a full 70 star run the other day it wasn't that good though, I just love playing all kinds of games and having fun, WRS and whatever are just a bonus.

what are the two times that are shown when grabbing the star? one is the actual time it took and the other one?

in game time and real time. in game time is basically counting frames, and real time adds lag and is what is used on the leaderboard
I think down is xcam i.e. when camera goes X and up is star grab timer i.e. when Mario touches the star
@@ayushmansingh3700 nah, like zach said, top time is IGT (in game time), and bottom time is real time (which is slightly slower than IGT and also includes lag). we prioritize real time on the official leaderboards.
there's rly no point in having an xcam timer, as these runs are timed by star-grab and have nothing to do with fullgame RTA.

What's "X-Cam" vs getting to the star fast mean?
Xcam timing stops when Mario touches the ground after collecting the star. The time between Mario touching the star and touching the ground is only important when considering full game runs. In single star, you stop the timer the moment the star is collected.

for 120, a spliced run of these Singlestar WRs would probably be slower than the current 120 Star WR, when you consider the fact that 100 Coin stars are done independently.
4:20 can you beat the penguin in a race with this strat? It couldn't possibly rubber band down the slide right? You would just need to not despawn it no?
nah wouldn't work, the penguin would fly off the slide
If you stay longer than 2 seconds in air, penguin would consider that cheating and won't give you the star .

We will see gameplay like this once "1:36:XX" is achieved...... I believe. I don't see how else u would be able to save time doing what is done today in gameplay. It's crazy but SM64 is only going to get crazier in the years to come.

Do you think it's viable to implement all those strategies in 16, 70 and 120 star runs? It looks like this is how you break the 1h 37m barrier, maybe even the 1h 36m barrier.
If cut something like half a second for each star, we would have a minute less, and we just learned a new strategy on BOB that cuts from 1.5 to 1.9 seconds.
Definitely not a chance, maybe some of them in 16 stars but most of those are impossible outside of a single star. Simply was mentioning every strat that was potentially viable in runs and there were only a couple of them

how come you don't do any of these in runs?
Cause imagine doing that in an actual run. You'd need to practice it a lot they're risky starts that aren't practical to use in runs at this point.

I just love running a boat load of games, instead of optimizing 1 game, which is why I've already ran 55 games already on my channel, including mario 64 although my run time was horrible on it.
